Demonoid back online under new admin

A famous BitTorrent tracker Demonoid is back online after months of downtime. The former administrator of the site, Deimos, had to shutdown the project in Canada. There were numerous attempts in relaunching Demonoid under different hostings all over the world, but it always failed after few days. It’s just a few moments since a new administrator took over the site after Deimos stepped down from his function due to personal reasons and relaunched it.

A quick look into WHOIS discovers that Demonoid is now hosted by American server hosting company Softlayer – I could probably imagine a better country for hosting a torrent website or tracker because of legal climax regarding peer to peer websites in the USA, but it seems to work fine now. And as we know the importance of reliable trackers in the BitTorrent community, I’d like to wish Demonoid team on behalf of our whole staff a very long uptime and a good luck in eventual legal battles.

    Softlayer is a very good hosting company, the RBN uses thier servers for hosting malware and they haven’t been shutdown so seems they got really lax policy or they basically don’t care.

    The big deal is just that you can find a large amount of older or obscure stuff @ Demonoid. It’s pretty much the Emule of torrenting. If you are only into new scene releases, it’s pretty well a pointless place to be though. It does, however, have a very friendly, HELPFUL community, which is something you don’t find often.

    Solution to why you just see the old message:
    Delete all cookies and all of that stuff. I did it, and now it works!

    To all Demonoid-haters:
    I’m a member of several high quality trackers which are very dificult to get into, I think I’ll still use Demonoid.

    A look up on who.is has that IP registered to RIPE Networks [the european IP admin company

    A look up in the RIPE Database has the IP registered a company called Colocall Ltd in the Ukraine.

    A google of Colocall brings you to a Russian Hosting company [website in russian] Ip address is 62.149.2.1,

    Don’t worry about reports of this being hosted in the USA, Probably old DNS records that aren’t updated yet as 98 pointed out, it take 12-24 hours for a DNS record to populate completly

    If you don’t believe me feel free to run the tests your self, i think i’ve made the steps clear enough, the IP addresses are similar enough i’d be amazed if they weren’t is the same block allocated by RIPE

    Site is back…..it is working just fine…..all stats are intact….
    And for those that don’t read the posts before runnin off ….the site and tracker is not hosted in the US it is hosted in the Ukraine…….
    And indeed new posts are there…..axxo has posted a bunch of stuff already…..

    yes i can get there from canada, yes my old log in works. yes i have found several better trackers since demonoid went down, but i will be returning to demonoid because it has more selection and its not just scene releases.

    To everyone getting new invite codes, please remember one of the things that makes Demonoid better than the rest is the community aspect of it. Please treat Demonoid better than your average index and tracker site, and you will get better than average in return.

    Please keep your ratio up, occasionally re-seed old torrents that are still on your machine from time to time, and be helpful in the comments and forums.

    And if you’re an uploader, then thanks in advance.

    If you’re getting an invite and about to become a new member, just remember to treat Demonoid as you want to be treated, and you’ll get some great stuff in return.

    Yeah, I’m just saying this because people are giving away invites to people they don’t even know, and here is a direct quote from Demonoid’s site:

    “[...]Also, if someone you invite gets warned/banned, you might get warned/banned too.”

    That’s why it makes me kinda nervous to see people giving invites out randomly. I’m ALL FOR as many people using Demonoid as possible, I would just hate to see someone get banned because they gave an invite code out to someone who did something stupid.

    BE WARY OF THOSE AXXO RELEASES!

    I got flagged by the MPAA via my ISP about a week ago for downloading an Axxo release of “There Will Be Blood.”

    I would wait a few days to start downloading blantantly copyrighted stuff from Demonoid until we can establish everything’s legit, even though I’m sure it is. But hey, you can never be too safe.
