Demonoid back online under new admin
A famous BitTorrent tracker Demonoid is back online after months of downtime. The former administrator of the site, Deimos, had to shutdown the project in Canada. There were numerous attempts in relaunching Demonoid under different hostings all over the world, but it always failed after few days. It’s just a few moments since a new administrator took over the site after Deimos stepped down from his function due to personal reasons and relaunched it.
A quick look into WHOIS discovers that Demonoid is now hosted by American server hosting company Softlayer – I could probably imagine a better country for hosting a torrent website or tracker because of legal climax regarding peer to peer websites in the USA, but it seems to work fine now. And as we know the importance of reliable trackers in the BitTorrent community, I’d like to wish Demonoid team on behalf of our whole staff a very long uptime and a good luck in eventual legal battles.

Yeah! Strange for some reason when i go to demonoid on my PC the new site works just fine and I can log in with my old info. However, on my mac I can only access the old forum even if I am completely logged out on my other PC… any ideas?

I dunno what your talking about. Invites is all fine.
If you are having problems accessing the website because you are still getting the “site is down error” you have to use the ip address. Type this address into your web browser to bring up the new server. http://62.149.24.66 . If you look at the whois posted above you see that this resolves to demonoid.com

Rofl. It was up for a while, and now it’s down.
I also have my doubts about it lasting very long on a server hosted here in the states. The so-called “Higher-Ups” will do whatever they can to make examples out of people, just to prove a point. It would have been better in my opinion, to have it hosted in another country, but I guess we’ll take what we can get for now (United States users, use with caution).

Softlayer is a very good hosting company, the RBN uses thier servers for hosting malware and they haven’t been shutdown so seems they got really lax policy or they basically don’t care.

The big deal is just that you can find a large amount of older or obscure stuff @ Demonoid. It’s pretty much the Emule of torrenting. If you are only into new scene releases, it’s pretty well a pointless place to be though. It does, however, have a very friendly, HELPFUL community, which is something you don’t find often.

Don’t worry about reports of this being hosted in the USA, Probably old DNS records that aren’t updated yet as 98 pointed out, it take 12-24 hours for a DNS record to populate completly
If you don’t believe me feel free to run the tests your self, i think i’ve made the steps clear enough, the IP addresses are similar enough i’d be amazed if they weren’t is the same block allocated by RIPE

FaustoFerret, it depends on how long you have been a member and the number of invites you requested in a given time. I have had new users given 5 invites in one sitting. If you have 8, great. More power to you but you might have been a member there for ages while I have been for 1 year.

I have mixed feelings about this news. One one hand, Demonoid was my favorite site. On the other hand, it’s been soooo long since it was shut downa, and I’ve moved on.
I hate to say it, but I think the time for Demonoid has passed. Many of the ‘hardcore’ members have passed to other trackers/sites, and the unique content of the old Demonoid is probably lost after all this time. I can’t see Demonoid becoming big again, especially since people will be watching it closely and try to shut it down again. And an AMERICAN ISP??? What are they thinking?

Heh, I love Demonoid and am extremely happy to have it back, but DAMN! They should have dropped all the torrents they had in the database from before. Most of them are seedless, and for good reason. We need to start fresh, but the Demonoid community is still the best regardless!

Demonoid is still one of the best torrent sites to ever exist. TPB is ok, but I think being public tends to hurt it sometimes. No need to seed there. I’ve always found that Demonoid users are more likely to post comments than anywhere else as well, which is important to me.
I logged in when the news first broke and my account works fine. I’ve already downloaded several torrents, all of which were the real deal. Right now the only problem seems to be a lack of leechers for me to seed to once I’ve finished downloading something, and that can be hard on the ratio lol.
The biggest reason to use Demonoid though? The quantity and quality of the torrents. There are a LOT of great categories, and literally TONS of new stuff shows up everyday, so much so that it can be hard to keep up. This is still true today despite the site only returning to online status a short while ago. Much of it you won’t find anywhere else too, at least not on public sites like TPB.
