Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030 (Reissue) (2008)

The other day, one of the repliers to an earlier post mentioned that there hadn’t been a RLSLOG staff pick in a while.  Truthfully, I don’t know if music has ever done staff picks, but I started thinking about it, and one of the albums I would definitely choose in that situation is classic indie hip-hop album Deltron 3030.  A conceptual album set in the year 3030, this is something that everyone who is serious about hip-hop should have in their collection.  What a coincidence when a few days later, I see that a rerelease is coming, and that MTD has supplied it.  I can only assume that it’s a small pressing, as it’s already sold out at Amazon.  So your best chances of getting it is here.

The super group Deltron 3030 is composed of producer Dan the Automator, rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapien and DJ Kid Koala and sometimes features guest artists who also take on varying futuristic pseudonyms. Originally released in 2000 on the now-defunct 75ARK record label, this Hip Hop concept album was released the same year as the Gorillaz first 12″ and is on a similar plane. Following the release of Deltron 3030, all three members participated in the Gorillaz’ self-titled debut album.

    This is one of my favorite albums of all time. I have introduced this to tons of people who don’t like rap/hip-hop, and they love it as well.

    Kid Koala is awesome I’ve met him and DJ’d on the same stage as him. Del The Funky Homosapien! I didn’t know he was still around.. He’s a down to earth cool mofo too.

    This Deltron 3030 and Cannibal Ox got my mind right when i started straying away from good hip hop into the popular crap. I’m glad I found these 2 albums because I’d be Chicken Noodle Soup’n, Superman’n, and Crank’n that everything, without these groups setting me straight. Glad its getting reissued and the remixes are a great added bonus.

    thc I’ve just listened to that gabba you recommended. I sorta liked it as it reminded me of Nasenbluten <- Aussie gabba made so old skool it was made on Amiga 500’s. However, I think any “normal” music fan would probably hate it. Tuneful and melodious it aint :-)

    Possibly one of the best hiphop albums ever made.

    @21

    the real shame is, as old as this classic album is, that hip-hop these days, if you can even call it that, doesn’t even come close to hip-hop of old.

    as for the selection of the album as a staff pick, i was pleasantly surprised. great pick!

    absolutely fantastic hip-hop album, the instrumental version is also worth tracking down, if anyone remembers the Tom Sizemore series Robbery Homicide Division, the track 3030 was used as the theme

    excellent post chinballs !

    awww! i worked this record to college radio! i vividly remember the day we received two pallets of vinyl to send out…i still have a couple copies and a couple copies of the instrumental that was released a year later. it was an instant classic indeed! oddly enough, i wore my 75Ark shirt today…i haven’t worn it in months either. thanks for the memories!

    I’d say this is my favourite album. Already have it (procured with actual money), but have never been able to get my dirty salad fingers on a copy of the instrumental version. If you’ve never listened to it, give it a go.
