Dell notebooks will come with Google software
Dell and Google signed very interesting and also very profitable deal: Dell PCs will come with Google Desktop and Google Toolbar preinstalled and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 set to use a Google home page. The two companies will share Internet ad revenue. On Wednesday, at Goldman Sachs Annual Internet Conference, Google CEO Eric Schmidt confirmed longstanding rumors that his company plans to partner with Dell to install Google search software on Dell computers.
The software, Dell said, would be included only in machines sold to consumers and small and midsize businesses. Though last quarter consumer sales comprised only about 14 percent of Dell’s revenue, the deal will involve millions of new computers over time. Google could get a significant boost in its competition with Microsoft for search-advertising revenue. By ensuring prime real estate on Dell computers, Google will gain exposure to millions of consumers who might otherwise have used Microsoft’s search technology. It looks like nice counter-attack against Microsoft but I really don’t see nothing bad about it when MS could bundle his own browser and media software…
