We have a major movie released from DoNE just now, which is “Defiance”. Directed by Edward Zwick and set in the eastern regions of German Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II, the film is an adaptation of Nechama Tec’s “Defiance: The Bielski Partisans”, which is based on the story of the Bielski partisans. The film stars Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell, and George MacKay as four Jewish brothers from Poland who escaped the Nazi persecution and fought back to rescue fellow Jews. I have a screeners of this movie, Obsessed, 17 again, Fighting, The Informers and April Showers but dont know how to split them and upload. To Badd some of them are pretty good flicks.
The REAL Bielski brothers NEVER blew up German tanks, and instead spent most of the time fighing other Jewish groups and Polish partisans. They terrorised villages and killed their citizens. Bielski is a minor figure historically, more a bandit than some kind of 'hero', even for the Jews. With tales of heroism at concentration camps getting old though, hollywood needs to find more active Jewish 'heroes'. Jews DID fight in resistance groups and many did very well, BUT Bielskis were not one of those.
