One of the best shows in TV, glad to see it going well into it’s fourth season. Sure you except that after 4 seasons there is nothing new to show but the truth is that with every episode we experience a different story and the hardship at being a crab fisher in Alaska. Makes you enjoy your little cubicle in your air-conditioned office even more!

Hehe, I am watching RLSLOG exactly because of the commentary of the staff, most enjoyable to me
Also watching Deadliest catch from time to time, to remember good ol` days in the sea. Actually, not so long ago…
Anyway, I think the staff is striking the right balance with showing their opinions and delivering the good stuff. it is in the same league as sports COMMENTARY. does it ring any bells for the journalism guys? rlslog is a good filter for the ordinary folks and saves some time for keeping an eye on the scene. that’s it.
as for real journalism, my dear god, we are in the friggin` 21st century – noone is left unbiased! get over it! even the world religions come to realize the disclosure of this giving-up from the objectivism. and start reforming the deadly sins to include drug-trafficking and the sort. let alone the “fair and balanced news network”, don’t even get me started.
the form beckons content, the content impacts the form. the commentary on the fires is thus off the scale and an inappropriate comparison, let the crowd have its digital pr0n service – RLSLOG

Josh, I also studied journalism, I also studied science.

My papers on science were forever being criticized for extraneous detail. Detail I included to make them more interesting to read and of course, to make them more interesting to write. Needless to say, I did a lot better in journalism..

You see, we are dealing with an emotive subject, not cold hard figures and facts. You cannot report upon what could be considered art (not in this case…) without some form of personal bias.

I guess rlslog could just post new releases along with a brief synopsis but would that be interesting to read? If I had not read Max’s thoughts upon this show for damn certain I would not be posting!

Besides, why does rlslog have to be either a news site or a review site? Can’t it sit somewhere in between? In my time as a reader it always has and to me that’s what makes it an interesting site to browse.

@ 13 – Yeah, but there’s a difference between quirky side-quips and full-fledged bashing of a show, as we all saw recently with Mr. X’s post on the BSG season 4 premiere.

I’m not even a fan of Deadliest Catch, but as a journalism graduate and avid online technology enthusiast, I grimace every time I see a post like this. If they are gonna allow editorial comments in posts, they should at least prohibit staffers from making negative comments about the content itself (aside from comments about rip quality, cam quality, etc…).

I mean come on… is this a news site or a review site? If it’s a review site I’ll shut the hell up and drop it. But as long as Rlslog continues to call itself a news site, I’ll always have a problem with this kind of reporting. It’s just not good journalism, not good writing. When you’re writing news to the majority, you’re never supposed inject the opinion of the minority (the staffer) into the piece, unless it’s some sort of interview. A good reporter should never write his or her opinions into a story, or in this case, a news posting.

Example: “This is Jane Doe, reporting live from the city of Compton in Los Angeles, where a deadly fire has burned down two housing projects, killing 18 victims. At least this tragedy struck Compton and not our upstanding citizens of Beverly Hills.”

extreme example, but get the point?

Why is this such an issue to you? Even the best of tv and film print ranks films and anyway Rlslog is not here to offer a serious objective look at the media. It’s a log of releases written by a bunch of guys who choose what to post. For damn certain I wouldn’t have posted this but thats just me being subjective.

I don’t always/often agree with what is stated but it doesn’t bother me in the least, in this case, I am actually quite amused by the prospect of Max’s spouse getting off on burley hairy fisherman, while he, the skinny nerd that he is, taps away at the keyboard endlessly.
