    How do these films make money? I honestly don’t understand their appeal to audiences, or anyone really.

    @3
    This one is related as a direct remake of Day of the Dead as was Dawn of the Dead was to the original.
    It is not a 3rd party crap movie like a VOMiT release. Was co-written by George A. Romero. Stars actors from Dawn of the Dead like Ving Rhames.
    Whether or not it’s good… that’s another story.

    “How do these films make money? I honestly don’t understand their appeal to audiences, or anyone really.”

    HUGE moneymakers even with all the piracy. If you don’t understand the appeal of flesh eating monsters that used to be human you’re either a homo or a sad Dungeons and Dragons playing nerd. Fear and horror’s appeal is visceral and they tap into an old primal part of the human condition.

    No7 ! Zombies don’t move very fast as they are dead and they definitely don’t run! romero’s style is the gospel as far as how they act, anything you want to know about zombies is contained in the original Night of the Living Dead. Any remakes are 2nd rate.

    @36

    if you watch the sample you’ll see the water mark comes in and out, seems to me like they throw it up there durin the action scenes. the sample was about a minute 15 long, the watermark came up as soon as some broad got attacked and it last maybe 20 seconds then went away…but i have no idea how many times it pops up.

  36. eb
    February 11th, 2008 | 02:09

    watermark is on screen for 20 seconds about 5 times in total during the whole film.
    Whilst the 2004 remake of Dawn of the dead was pretty cool, this remake is utterly abysmal.
    As a zombie film in its own right - 6 out of 10
    As a retelling of Day of the dead - 0 out of 10

Megaupload is way better than rapidshare, at least i think so. And at 9:00 pm eastern time, anyone with a megaupload account, whic is free, can experience premium features. OMG PLEASE!!! Not another one! First you had the original NOTLD, and that scared the pants off people and remains one of Horror’s all time greats. Then they made DOTD, and while this was not too bad, it was far below the original. Then they came up with DayOTD and this was just about the most worthless hunk of crap ever made. And after watching LOTD, Romero has lost it! maybe he just ran out of ideas, I dont know.

    Then they made the NOTLD extended version/and the 20th Anniversary version and then the color version. (can you say ‘milking this?’) Then they made the remake of NOTLD with Tony Todd and one of the hottest looking redheads ever, and that was not that bad. Then they remade Dawn of the Living dead with Ving (wonder how he got the name Ving..) and that was not bad and actually had two of the coolest scenes (when that little kid hopped from the floor to her feet and growled then came running down the hall spooked the crap out of me)and the scene with the zombie baby (that was wrong on so many levels, lol) Now they come up with this turd of a movie?

    I can only hope with the upcoming “Dead World/World of the Dead” that Romero is making and swears will be like the NOTLD original, can salvage his rep. I mean you can only make so many screw ups before your past glory wont be worth squat!

    —————
    What the others told you is correct and I should have written it out but I am so used to phrasing it this way like they do in the horror magazines and boards that I forgot that maybe not everyone would know what I was speaking of. For that you have my apologies.

    NOTLD= Night of the Living Dead. The original Zombie movie and the grandfather of all Zombie movies worth spit. Before Romero came along, all these did was shuffel and choke you or rip you to small parts. After Romero, they started to eat you and change you into one of them…your brain knows what you have become and is unable to stop it and you are now trapped in a living hell that will never end until someone destroys your brain.

    DOTD= Dawn of the Dead. The second in the original zombie horror trilogy.

    DayOTD=Day of the Dead. The Third of the original trilogy and there for the longest time, the final movie.

    LOTD=Land of the Dead. The changing of the ideal where Romero decided to show what it would look like (according to him) when flesh eating Zombies had taken over most of the world.

    WOTD/DW=World of the Dead or Dead World. This is suppose to be the final movie in this series according to Romero. This takes place over 20 years after the Zombies destroyed civilization. The premis of the movie is that these people try to make sure that the virus that started it all and has showed signs of evolving and getting ready to “jump species” (means start infecting other species besides humanity, like dogs-cats-etc) does not jump species while fighting to stay alive against the zombies and restart human civilization, all the while trying not to destroy each other.

    lets hope this final movie is better then the others and that no more remakes are made. With the way Romero chain smokes, I dont think his lungs are gonna hold out for much longer.

    Day of the Dead is George Romero’s third zombie remake and was originally scheduled for a fall 2007 or spring 2008 theatrical release. When it was screened for test audiences in the US it received a poor response, and it was subsequently pulled from a US theatrical release. MGM must have decided to release it STV so they wouldn’t lose their entire investment.

    This is was surprisingly good. It might just be that my taste has been lowered a bit by a recent splurge into ‘really’ low budget zombie movies, but I’d actually give it a solid 6/10.

    @Bob

    Damn, that’s a bit of a downer, Bub was one of the smartest pieces of zombie writing in the horror genre. Have you watched this yet? I actually quite liked the NOTD and DOTD remakes, not as good as Romeros efforts obviously but they weren’t too bad. The ending of the NOTD remaked sucked big time though.

    @TrolleyGuy

    Yep, there’s a “Bub the zombie” in it. Not nearly as good as in the original, but he was still used to fairly good effect. There was even a nice nod to the first with him near the end of the movie. Still, I was really hoping he’d have an aunt Alisha.

    dawn(re-hash) is not even a qtr of the original Dawn…! its a bastard film, zombies don’t run. It was more of a 28 days later / zombie flic set in a shopping mall. it didn’t get under my skin at all and everytime I watch the originals I want to turn off but i never do, he is telling a different story to all of the re makes, its not all about the zombies. i bet this effort is just as hollow and lacking as day of the dead the remake.

  78. scott
    February 11th, 2008 | 08:51

    perfect quality but shame about the film, its just another badly thought out effort and is nothing like the original. crack zombies that hide bodies in closets and carry bodies down lanes and are unaffected by electricity by the looks of things plus stupid idea of a breakout! F A I L…

    Anyone who thinks the remake of Dawn of the Dead is good is a chump, they should watch the first one and see what a real zombie movie is. Same is to be said about this film, just nowhere near as good, bad actors + bad directing. Waiting for Dairy of the Dead and the currently not named Diary of the Dead sequel, both Writen/Directed by Romero.

    BTW zombies can use guns.. first Day of the Dead the soldier Zombie remembers over time. The time is much much longer than in the newer movies though, and it doesn’t seem to matter if they’ve had any experience :S

    “HUGE moneymakers even with all the piracy. If you don’t understand the appeal of flesh eating monsters that used to be human you’re either a homo or a sad Dungeons and Dragons playing nerd. Fear and horror’s appeal is visceral and they tap into an old primal part of the human condition.”

    FU*K YEAH!

    The losers who run this site should stop posting their own comments about movies they don’t get.
    Ok, you don’t like zombie movies, you prefer chipmunks things, it’s your right. But please, stop acting as if you were some real movie critic, even if you have seen like 50 movies in your 15 years lifetime.

    I’m a movie snob and generally only watch movies which get good reviews from critics, but when it comes to zombies, all that goes out of the window, zombie movies rule!

    #95 - aren’t people sick of bringing up “girls 1 cup” at every given opportunity.

    another zombie movie is always welcome. my theory is that zombies started off as dumbed down TV viewers who just switched off after years of exposure to Jerry Springer and Dancing with the Stars.

    it’s scientifically proven for example that zombies can’t run, or ‘think’, or ‘be led’ .

    imagine all those zombies locked in cages like monkeys waiting to be dissected for scientific purposes. easier to catch ! maybe well find the cure for cancer. someone should help them escape.

    I have never seen so much commentary from so many who have not even watched the effing movie!

    If you like horror movies this is great!!!

    Professional cast, score, editing, production, directing, etc.

    Comparing this or any movie to another from a different “era” is pointless.

    @Adam Jones

    I would be interested in anything you could tell me about the movie “2 Girls 1 Cup”, as I have heard people at work talk about it, but I have no clue what all the hype is about.

    Thanks in advance.

    @Large Elephant

    Word of advice, whatever you do, do not watch it lol

    for one thing, it’s not a movie, it’s some weird scat (poop) fetish porn clip. A friend of mine directed me to it and I nearly blew chunks lol

    if u are still interested then u can most likely google it.
