Dark Messiah Of Might And Magic by PROCYON

Another release by PROCYON! Man this new group may not crack games but they sure as hell deliver them as soon as it hits the shelfs! I don’t think this game needs any introduction, the demo has been out for several weeks now and anyone who played it knows exactly what this game is all about. Personally, I’m not going to play it because for me the game just didn’t feel right. It felt like a Half-Life 2 mod because a lot of default art files from the Source engine are still in Dark Messiah Of Might And Magic which kinda bothered me. Anyone who does not care about something as small and insignificant as that will surely love this game though! It’s a mix of medieval weapon combat and puzzle solving. Yes, the physics puzzle solving! If you were annoyed by the part in Half-Life 2 where you had to place concrete blocks on a wooden plank to get the other side of the plank up so you could easily jump from the plank onto the next level, then this might not be the game for you.

*Takes a brief look at the NFO* Okay, basically all the NFO has to say is that we are all low-life nerds and we’ll never have sex and it goes on and on about orgasms and vagina’s. Maybe this group needs some parental guidance or something. Hmm, gotta find another source of information.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic puts players in a first-person perspective, allowing them to immerse themselves in the legendary Might and Magic universe as never before. It is also the world’s first fantasy action game to feature a complete first-person combat system. It takes full advantage of the Source Engine’s exceptional technological enhancements in areas such as character animation, advanced AI, real-world physics and shader-based rendering.

Minimal system requirements:

  • AMD Athlonâ„¢, Pentium® 2.4 GHz or equivalent processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 128MB video card (And I assume you need at least a GeForce 2 or equivalent)
  • 7GB freed hard disk space for installation

Got this game when it leaked several days ago, you’d be an idiot not to at least try the full game, it “feels” right to me. Buttery smooth animations and combat. With enemies that duck and swoop from your sword. This is good stuff. I’m a little disappointed in the Gamespot review, a meager 6.7 when every other site like IGN gave it 8.8 and up. I found it a very good game, I really don’t see how people don’t find this game to be totally intriguing and hellaciously fun to play. Sure, some jumping parts aren’t so fun, but you can get past those to get to the neat parts. Which consist of the whole game. Oh, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance is awesome as well, with the 360 engine on the PC version! It looks beautiful.

I think that my opinion to the feel of the game is solely limited to people who have been modding Source or at least played a lot of HL2 mods. A lot of things bother me like the water shaders and the fire graphics, because they are EXACTLY the same art files used in HL2, CSS, DoD:S and pretty much all other Source games and mods and I’m getting tired of them. It just made Dark Messiah feel like yet another modification for HL2. But that’s just my 2 cents.

A 3D action (semi) RPG with beautiful graphics. Physics are a bit off sometimes. In the demo, when I first kicked the zombie it flew and bounced around like an inflatable rubber doll filled with helium. Same goes for orcs. Once that gets adjusted, this should be damn fine game. I hope there’ll be a way to holster the weapons: those twin daggers just block most of the view. Cheers.

As IGN stated, the graphics vary a lot. Sometimes the game looks beautiful, sometimes downright ugly. But the gameplay is a lot of fun although a bit confusing when you are facing more than two enemies. I wish the magic would be a bit more friendly to use, I don’t want to switch weapons just for a cool fire ball.
It has no epic story, but I can live without that, the physics and the gruesome combat are a lot of fun.

Oh, btw, if you experience problems with the protection, just use the demo exe, it works perfectly. Don’t know which developer or programmer will have to hang for that…

I have a problem with the install:

When I click the “Installer / Désinstaller de jeu”-button the InstallShield Wizard loads up and loads and then come this:

    Unhandled Exception:
    Error Number: 0×80040702
Description: Failed to load DLL: um

    Setup will now terminate.

Does anyone know how to fix this without redownloading the whole ISO?

Your download is fine it’s just that a file is corrupted. Try to manually rehash the torrent.

Yey, Kevin, lot of AWESOME releases commented here!
This game is like Oblivion with the HL2 engine, awesomeness….! I’m gonna buy it.

  11. October 28th, 2006 | 15:07

@Anna: This game is not connected to Steam, so Steam won’t interfere. And thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it! :D

@Therapix: Oblivion has an open world and the freedom to do what ever you want, Dark Messiah is a linear game just like HL2. Just to inform you before you buy a completely different game then you expected. ;-)

Hi guys, I have problems with installing the game, I can get the autorun to load up but when I press the “install” button it just comes up a small box that says ” Created with demoshield” and then nothing else happens. Tried to load protstop, the included loader and mounted with right version of deamon tools.. just wont load !

Post 4 cameltoe: “I hope there’ll be a way to holster the weapons: those twin daggers just block most of the view.”

Just hit the hotkey for your current weapon and they will be holstered.

Once again, somebody didn’t try very hard.

I played it using the demo exe, but I think at the end of either Chapter 4 or Chapter 5 (where you rescue the ship), a video attempts to play, but the game crashes and I get some error that says something like “Bink video not found”. Anyone know how to get around this?

Hmm, Well i can get the game started with the demo exe, but it only allows me to play the first level, and then it crashes to desktop during the loading period for the second level. TIA.

Argh… figured that holster weapon thing too late. Shoulda stopped to think about it for a second or two before whining about it. My bad. And I also take back the comment ‘fine game’. It has pretty graphics and all (got GF 7900GT) but it feels a bit hollow or empty game, void of content. Gets boring and repetitive too fast (played until ran into the second cyclops, for reference). My suggestion: spend your money elsewhere if you were thinking about buying this game. Or pirate something else if you were thinking about pirating this game ;). Not worth the money or the download time IMO. Be sure to be REALLY bored if you’re to pirate this.

  18. November 14th, 2006 | 17:38

Great game! addictive, at least for me cause i finished it in 6 days:D hmm, i heard that you can get the multiplayer version up by some way..there should be some Multiplayer GCF files on the DVD some people say, but I didn’t find ‘em. I searched everywhere for it, even on the best pirate sites, but no luck… So if someone could give me a link or send me the GCF somehow i would appreciate it (Not the Multiplayer Open Beta! The normal one)

Okay. My dad bought the game, and got another one from the video card thing. I installed it on my computer, from the one he didn’t get from the video card. I try to play, and it’s fine. The Main Menu has black/grey/white blocks floating around it, but it doesn’t affect it. Anyways, the real problem is when I click New Game, and it starts up as normal. When it gets to about 5/8 of the way done, it comes up with a compatibility error, and I can’t see what’s wrong, because it won’t let me out of the program, and I have to restart my computer every time. My dad has it on his computer, but it crashes at some videos. It works fine other than that. My brother also has it, and it works perfectly on his. The videos, the gameplay, the dialogue, everything. Except it lags like you’d never believe it. My computer is currently the best one in the house (speedwise), and I don’t know how to fix this problem. Anyone able to help? Thanks.
