Custom Made PS3 Laptop for (not so) Cheap
Have a couple grand lying around? As in twenty-four? Good, because you can bid on the rare, one of a kind, hand-made PS3 Laptop, built by Ben Heckendorn for popular tech site Engadget. All of the proceeds of this auction will go to National Cancer Coalition, so if you need a tax break for the new tax year, may as well get something cool in the process. As I eat my pasta from Pizza Hut, mainly because it only costs $12, I know I most assuredly will not be bidding on this, but if you have the money, there is one day left on the auction, so I thought I’d pass along the info to you guys. Please keep the “OMG XBOX360 FTW!” comments to a minimum. The pasta isn’t bad in case you are wondering.

By the way, ever considered doing something that can feed you? You know, you can put certain ingredients in a pot, add oil, salt etc; and amazingly it turns into something edible. People call it cooking..

Thanks for the info about the Pizza Hut Pasta… I was wondering about that! This may be a surprise to PS3 FanBoys but the info about the pasta was the only thing interesting about this post for me at least… Wii + Pot + Pizza/Pasta Hut = Party time!

Is this just a PS3 in a laptop case, or is it a computer too? Don’t get me wrong, being ‘just’ a PS3 in a laptop case would be pretty awesome, but if it’s not an actual computer too then I don’t see the need for the keyboard. Couldn’t he have removed that to make a bit more space for the PS3 bits inside?

Of course it is old news. I have been watching the auction on ebay for almost a week. I just wanted to post it since there was only 1 day left on the auction. Plus not everyone reads the same sites that I do, so it may be news to someone. And the pasta is cheap because it provides me 4 full meals for $12. I love to cook, and am damn good at it, but I only do that on the weekends when I don’t have school and when I stay with my girl. For 12 dollars, I can’t make this much pasta for myself.

Haha. No. It is fully cooked, with meat and sauce and cheese and everything. Comes in a tin pan that is almost the size of a medium pizza box. It is seriously a shitload of food.

think it was same people who did it with the 360!! its nothing special because its still just a ps3 connected to a small screen instead of a 50″ 1080p plasma but full credit to them for donating the money to charity so they deserve all the credit the builder/s get!! has the OS changed on it? would be nice to see if you could use the ps3 hardware and insatll Linux or even windows & use it as a gaming laptop :p would be cheaper than what alienware/dell charge 4 gaming laptops & it would come with bluray playback

Hmmm… I did something similar back in 2003 to an Xbox, nothing as fancy as this but still for the time it was cool. Just attached a 17″ LCD to Xbox so it would hinge up and down and with some other modifications to make it semi-weather proof it was good to go…*sigh* too bad I sold it almost right away…

yes the ps3 can install linux, unbuntu, even xp , u can use that laptop as a normal one wireless internet, bluetooth etc, that thing is sick when u really know what the ps3 can do, people just say o its crap but when u look at the specs, and acutaly relize what the ps3 can do u be pretty amazed!!

@4 I’m an actually cook, and just oil and salt in a pot will not make anything, yes you can eat it, but I wouldn’t even classify it as edible. And Max, I don’t know where you live, but where I am, Pizza Hut is greatly frowned upon, there are only 2 left within 200 miles of each other, and if they ever let in a Health Inspector, they would be shut down on the spot.

not to be a d*ck but yes the ps3 can run linux but even then its very slow and very gimped no real access to proper graphic support etc…
and if you try to emulate XP on the PS3 under linux its abysmal you mise as well be running a intel 600mhz processor.
the 360 and this laptop were both made by ben heck both were sold for charity. and he then posted the how he did it DIY manual as well.
