CubeDesktop Pro v1.3.1 Multilingual-DVT

logoLately, DVT released some 0days which negatively influenced my view on this group. A few non-working releases, so that means they don’t test their release fully before they pre. But this one works. I’ve tested it for a few mins. And i think this tool can come in handy if you use alot of apps. Then u can easily sort them on the different desktops on the ‘cube’. Personally i’d prefer to use the Multi-Desktop function CompizFuzion gives u, but thats only for Ubuntu-users. So if you’re on Windows, this is best software to get.

CubeDesktop creates six virtual and independent desktops, increasing the space you have to work and play. Being the most robust multiple desktop software, CubeDesktop solves the desktop clutter problem once and for all. Each virtual desktop is a distinct working environment. The taskbar shows only the applications opened on the current desktop, greatly reducing the clutter.

System requirements :

Release name: CubeDesktop.Pro.v1.3.1.Multilingual-DVT

Just a correction, CompizFuzion isn’t just for ubuntu, it’s a separate project for any X Window System based desktop environment.

    @3 – I agree.
Granted, if it it didn’t use extra RAM/CPU etc then I believe it would be great. But it’s just like Windowsblinds – all eye candy on the outside while the juices are slowly being sucked dry on the inside.

    @3

    Windows doesnt work like that.
The framebuffer cant support realtime animation its built on a bitmap rasterised soloution up to and including XP so it will be screenshots of whatever application on each face of the cube.

Under vista however things change and the operating system finaly shifted from bitmaps to vecor imaging meaning that real time anmation could be shown in the background in realtime, i doubt however that the coders have really got that deep down inside the new API to achieve this.

    in before ZOOMJ CUEB

    April 4th, 2008 | 14:43

chroma, that’s total bs. You have what-so-ever no idea what are bitmaps/vectors.

    LMAO, failage.

  22. Rolf
    April 4th, 2008 | 14:57

Why don’t you people even check the homepage instead of coming here and saying that you ‘think’ it doesn’t doe live updates and such?

    from the homepage:

Windows and desktops update in realtime, like Windows Vista new thumbnails, but in true 3D.

CubeDesktop is not like the classic utilities for Windows. Everything is live. When you switch between desktops using the 3D interface or the desktop explorer, you see a live preview of what’s happening. All windows update in realtime, allowing you to see what you’re really looking for.

CubeDesktop uses advanced 2D and 3D techniques like animation with physical dynamics, transparency, reflection, lighting and antialiasing.

All effects are fully configurable. 3D visualization also allows you to set personalized backgrounds and 360º panoramic skyboxes.

Lame attempt cloning Beryl/Compiz/Fusion of Linux with onethird of the features of the excellent linux program hoping to bring some eye candy to the massive XP crowd which all the more starts to get behind on operating system advances. This program is not solution to the problem but a quick cash grab, Microsoft created a solution with Windows Presentation Foundation exclusively on Vista and when developers start coding exclusively WPF/Vista apps all these type of programs will become obsolete.

    @3&8,

If you don’t use it it just goes to waste, if you have some to spare then may as well use it even if it is just for pretty, I don’t know about you but I turn everything off before I play games or use 3d apps so this wouldn’t affect anything on that front.

Its not as if its a finite pool of resources its an all you want to the maximum output scenario and if it doesn’t get used its gone so you may as well use it if it is there.

does anyone really have that many apps to need a few desktops, geez just buy a monitor and graphics card that support higher resolutions, then there is more space on the desktop. Even though, it’s a funky program, for me, not that useful.

  43. shane
    April 4th, 2008 | 19:17

I have had my Linux box set up to do this for about 2 years. I was surprised to see that windows didn’t rip this ideal off and include it in their new vista crap os. I set this up on my game box running win xp and it can’t even compare. Yes it does what it says with allot of processor and memory usage, but it is not anywhere as powerful as compiz or beryl. If I had never used the one on Linux then I would probably be impressed by this. My suggestion is go ahead and try it. If you are not gaming or using anything that you need system resources for then you will probably be happy with it. If you want to see how beryl project works download the free mandriva one disk http://www.mandriva.com/en/download/free and try it out.

    April 4th, 2008 | 21:29

baah…I thought this app would help me with my desktop-problems… Just got one single problem.. After arranging all my incons into different screens I find out that if I (in anyway) sort the icons ALL the icons will show up again… (and yeah, just screwed my ‘main’ screen because of this) …and you can’t even ‘align to grid’ (I HATE INBALANCED DESKTOPS!!)..but anyway.. Thanks for the share, now I’ll spend a few days getting my desktop back to normal again..

Not saying I don’t like..I just don’t enjoy the way they made all the desktop-screens work individual without thinking of the minor detail: sort…

  47. getyourown
    April 4th, 2008 | 21:30

Oh and for the record… YES! You can see a live-feed of the various desktops in the 3d-cube.. After like an hour of using it, it suddenly started showing the desktops..

    use linux.
    compiz-fusion runs great on fedora.
compiz-fusion has far more features than this.
    running windows is bad.
    don’t be bad.

i run ubuntu but it comes with compiz built in…
    so co-sign on #51 :D

  50. April 4th, 2008 | 23:53

Yes, inspired by beryl but why the hell not make it for windows as well ? If their is a market out there go ahead and take advantage of it, so good going for the developers. However it would be prudent to just use the 3D desktop effects on linux because it works best there. When I first discovered beryl/compiz I was just wasting time for 3 hours using all those amazing effects. I love the rain droplet one.

like beryl this is handy to impress noobs at work, but ultimately barely gets used after a month , though wobbly windows remains a favourite ( i use pclos at work )

My god, this is as lame and successful as the guy who invented bottled water. Take something free, put a fence around it and sell it as a commodity! wunderbar!

    April 5th, 2008 | 02:05

Hey, lets zip, rar, ace, and 7zip the files from now on.. I love multi-extracting the same download 4 times. Come on people. When you get it, if you post a link, have it zipped once. Have the setting be to store. If it’s less than 100 MB and you can download it off a server, Why super-compress it? I can compress it after I downloaded it. If I chose to.

    April 5th, 2008 | 04:35

    Wow…
    This really *is* bad.

Windows is still years behind GNU/Linux (the 3D crap being the less important stuff).

WinXP is still usable as a second OS for those games that don’t run on GNU/Linux though…

this application is excellent! at least for what it says it does

not only it is fully customizable by every aspect (performance – display etch) it is much more lighter and faster than the native windows virtual desktop enhancement

    congrats again!

This is the best of these 3D desktops setups I’ve tried. It shows 1.4Gb processor but I’m running it on a 1Gb Athlon and it runs quite quickly and the most RAM I’ve seen it use is 8.8Mb so I’m super impressed with it and for the people worried about performance, I’m sure your setup is better than mine and mine is running it fine.

    but very beautiful and usefull.
I guess i’ll go on Ubuntu in order to try this light “compiz” “beryl” ;) and eventually to definitively adopt linux (which I don’t know at all).
