CSI S08E06; Without A Trace S06E06

CSI starts off very violently as we are shocked with a brutal murder right from the opening scene – which may involve foul play by the FBI. The FBI team from Without A Trace joins up CSI in order to solve a complex case. The plot spans two episodes of two different shows, a concept new to me but I’m embracing it as a clever twist to boost both show’s ratings.

Who and What: Jack Malone of the ‘Without A Trace’ FBI team joins Grissom and the Vegas CSIs as a missing boy he is searching for may be the body the CSIs are investigating. The crossover concludes in the episode of Without a Trace following.

New and unknown group OTV (with the same content-free NFO as XOR) gives us the second episode in the crossover episode with CSI. I have never encountered a cross-over episode from two different programs. A fictional crossover is a storyline shared between two fictional universes, or involving characters from multiple universes. But since both programs are from the same network of CBS, the possibility of them working together is greater. Without a Trace is voted a very high 9.1/10 on TV.com with 3K votes.

Where & Why: In a crossover episode with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, the FBI and Gil Grissom team up to find and capture a suspected killer. I have not yet downloaded an episode of this show yet, so depending if I like it or not I’ll keep posting it for next time.

    “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” used to do crossover episodes, although they didn’t really hugely require you to see both episodes. This is a clever trick to do a one-off boost of viewership (i.e. they might get close to double the number of usual viewers for both episodes – heck I’m d/l’ing the Without A Trace ep even though I don’t watch that normally).

    The trick is only really effective for the first season of the show though surely? Now we’re into the 8th and 6th years, people will have decided to be regular viewers or not by now and using this crossover to hook more regular viewers in for later episodes is only going to have a limited impact. I watched the first few eps of Without A Trace’s season 1 years ago and wasn’t impressed, so I’m not going back to it now (beyond this one episode that is)…

    With CSI this isn’t a completely new thing. Both of the CSI spin-offs have started as crossover episodes of a previous show (CSI -> CSI Miami -> CSI New York). I believe ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Homicide: Life on the Sreet’ used to do this as well occasionally. ‘Law & Order: SVU’ is infact a spin-off of sorts from ‘Homicide’ with Richard Belzer playing the same character he did on ‘Homicide’.

    Yeah, I have seen CSI ->CSI: Miami and CSI New York -> CSI and vice versa. Kinda neat seeing the teams all together, but never quite figured out how that jurisdiction thing worked, unless the CSI’s have the same jurisdiction as the RIAA and MPAA and all their minions in other countries.

    Anyways, first time I have seen a cross-over into a different show.. now a different channel would be cooler. Anyways, is it me, or has TV been exceptionally good since the strikes started? It is like the stations stared airing the best episodes they had right away.

    What ep comes in first. Csi or Without a trace??

    @9 & 10

    I think that Las Vegas did a few cross-overs with Crossing Jordan.
