Crowded House - Platinum (2008)

This is a guest post written by Prezdead.

Album CoverRelease group ‘EON’ brings us a neat little surprise from New Zealand, now re-united, band Crowded House. After a long breakup and a sketchy existence, these guys are back after an 11 year ‘break’ with a greatest hits package. Good tunes and rockin’ riffs. Enjoy!

Platinum is a greatest hits package thrown together by Platinum Records. Can’t find a set release date … but we have something to go on after their last album, Time on Earth, released in June of 2007 & reaching #1 in Australia and #3 in the UK.

Crowded House is a rock group formed in Melbourne and led by New Zealand musician and singer-songwriter Neil Finn. Finn is widely recognised as the primary songwriter and creative direction of the band, having led it through several incarnations, drawing members from New Zealand (himself, Tim Finn and Eddie Rayner), Australia (Paul Hester, Nick Seymour, Peter Jones and Craig Hooper) and the United States (Mark Hart and Matt Sherrod).

They are a New Zealand band. Not Australian, have you not seen Death Proof. There are consequences to mistaking New Zealanders for Aussies.

Martin, I’ve enjoyed and respected your posts up until now but COME ON!
Crowded House are an Australian band?!?! Are you nuts?!
Sure, they formed in Melbourne, but do a little bit of reading and you’ll see they’re a New Zealand band through and through! All of their songs reference our culture and landmarks around New Zealand, not bloody Australia! >.<

The big Australia mistake aside, I can’t wait to download this! :D
Not “Hey Now” or “Weather With You” though….

    Don’t sweat it Martin

New Zealand was part of New South Wales way back when, and the Kiwi’s still can’t get over it :|

Gr8 site, keep up the good work

    May 14th, 2008 | 00:55

Ummm the band was signed to an Austalian Label for years,
And the band was formed after the previous OZ band “Split Ends” so the three guys in Australia at the time launched Crowded House. (Band was not formed in NZ)

Paul Hesta was an Australian musician, so just because the sheepshaggers are having a fit, doesn’t mean that the Band is NewZealandish……

The band had Australian and NewZealand band members and played and performed more in Australia than they ever did in NZ. The former farewell concert was done in Australia, not NZ! I guess NZ’ers don’t have much to claim fame too, so may as well claim anything they can ;)…… Meanwhile CH rocks! They can claim the Finn brothers, but not the band!

jeez all the aussies and new zealanders sure get worked up about where they are from!!!!
they own houses in australia and new zealand.
they have been touring here for forever.
its easy to see why aombody would think they were australian.
    even though theyre not.
and theres a (better) more comprehensive best of album out there…..

Good one from the great Aussie band

    May 14th, 2008 | 01:13

they have other greatest hits albums ….which contain the tracks the above posters are complaining are missing….do a search….so this album is actually redundant as a “better” GH is already out….its called Recurring Dream…
My fave (Into Temptation)is also missing…
This band are Beatlesque….and legends in my opinion…
they also put on a F@#$ing good concert too!!

Always quite liked this band but this seems to be a pointless release when the far superior “Recurring Dream” best-of has been out for years.

Ok, so it has some stuff from thier latest album, but that was nothing special compares to thier older stuff.

This new release only has 12 tracks for a start and misses off a lot of thier best tracks (whereas “Recurring Dream” has 19 tracks).

If you want to sample this band just get “Recurring Dream” from a torrent site and ignore this release.

Weather With You and Don’t Dream It’s Over- the two best CH songs are not on this release. What a ‘Best Of’
The cd would make a nice coaster anyways …rubbish collection

If the kiwi’s are claiming Crowded House, they have to take Russell Crowe as well!

As a kiwi sheep shearer once said “I’m not sharing that sheep with anybody!”

  46. Neckron
    May 14th, 2008 | 10:03

You could argue that 2 out of the 3 band members are Australian which would make Crowded House 66% australian but when the main singer, songwriter, music writer is a Kiwi you could argue its a NZ band with aussie musicians.

Anyways as everyone else has said get Recurring Dream as it as far more tracks. The new label is just trying to cash in.

  47. Grant
    May 17th, 2008 | 17:35

F@#king Australians, F@#K off you can have Russel Crowe and Derrin Hynch for that matter

  48. Nawdy
    May 19th, 2008 | 13:14

47 posts and only 2 comments about sheep???? What’s the world coming to????? The ditch must be getting wider or something

And no mention of the cricket or netball either…. choice bro!!!

CH are a great band - I sen them live many times back in the ’80s, and it was worth every cent.

  49. rkellus
    May 25th, 2008 | 22:58

Hester and Seymour are not from NZ. Neil Finn has even said the band was not a NZ band (enough already). In fact, if your want to get specific, it was a Melbourne band.

Now, the Finn Brothers (Neil, Tim, or the aggregate of their powers) that’s NZ. Also, the songwriting muscle behind Crowded House…that too is pure NZ. So, chill everyone. Reserve your piss and vinegar for when the media says that the addition of two American’s makes them an American band.
