Akron, Ohio. An all-American city, in the mid-western heartland. Once home to Good Year, Firestone and BF Goodrich, this small city was a smoke belching industrial colossus. The tire capitol of the world, home of Good Year’s famous blimp. But in the late 70s, the rubber city was running flat. Deflated by labor strike, aging factories and a national recession, the tire industry took the fast lane out of town, and never looked back. Much of Akron did the same. But in the city sprawling western suburbs, a newer, greener Akron arose. A progressive town, with upscale subdivisions and strip malls, driven by a high-tech economy striving to overcome its blue collar origins and rust-belt past. But for one Akron business man, an immigrant son turned ruthless yuppy, the suburban boom would be more than just new-found millions, it would also lead to bad blood, severed family ties, and eventually – murder.
On 11 August 1980, cosmetics magnate and millionaire Dean Milo was found dead in his mansion in an affluent suburb of gritty, graceless Akron, Ohio. The murder shocked the boulevard of billion-dollar corporations that help make Akron the Rubber Capital of the World. And the subsequent investigation unearthed an endless list of possible conspirators, almost all of them Dean’s relatives and all of them members of the Akron community.
In the 1980s, Akron was a weary town, a hodge-podge of blue-collar factory workers, shop-keepers and university students whose campus borders the factories and shops of downtown. Known as the Rubber Capital of the World, Akron was home to companies like Goodyear, Firestone, BF Goodrich and General Tire.
