Corsair introduces first 32 GB flash drive
The capacities of USB flash drives are constantly increasing and Corsair achieved another milestone with their latest product: they are rolling out two 32 GB drives. The Flash Voyager and its more studier cousin, the Flash Survivor, both sport 256-bit AES encryption. The drives are also bootable. Coated in rubber, the Flash Voyager is fairly sturdy in its own right, but Corsair claims the aluminum-encased Survivor is shockproof and waterproof up to 200 meters.

The Flash Voyager and Flash Survivor are commercially available now for $230 and $250 respectively. Both drives come with a 10-year limited warranty. Early adopters are reporting the drives have fairly respectable 21 MB/sec read and 7 MB/sec write speeds. Get rid of your 128 meg crapdrive, this is the future!

Portable pocket ‘o porn
I have a 2 GB “crapdrive” but this things look really SWEET.
so it would take about 90mins to fill this baby, could be worse
10 year warranty?
Correct me if im wrong but flash memory is only good for 100,000 or so writes?
i wonder if the cover that under warranty?
Why pay so much for a flash drive when i can comfortably carry my 160GB External Harddrive, in its neat 2.5″ enclosure, for half the price? lol thanks but no thanks
Er, this a joke? I already ordered Sony 32GB flashdrives from China for 60$ each. What is this?
@8 Why? Because external HDDs have mechanical parts that can broke, thus are much more susceptible to shocks and require more power. Some people simply have better use for flash drives.
YES..finally something i can use while scuba diving and beating the sharks away with.
No thanks. I need at least 64Gb, 300mb/s read and write. Everything else would not cut it. I’ll wait another year or two and keep the money.
i like!
32 gigabyte flash drives exist in china since long ago. Probably they’re not very reliable, i admit, but you can buy one for only 20 euros (25 dollars), so…
Will this take over the harddisc one day=?
waterproof up to 200 meters. but why
@9
@32
All 32GB, 64GB etc. USB flash drives found on known auction sites and elsewhere are FAKE.

last year when I went to china I bought a 32GB flash drive knowing it was fake, just out of curiosity. It shows the full 32GB capacity but when you fill like 1 GB or so the files already written starts to get corrupt.
Here is and another link

anyway google it and you will find tons of refs.
LoL @9 PinkDaizy
You are now getting screwed by the 32GB chines fakeDrive times the amount of drives you ordered.
PinkDaizy say hello to your new feake usb drive -not working

“fairly respectable 21 MB/sec read and 7 MB/sec write speeds”
You call that “respectable”? Are you posting from 2004 or something?
In 2007, a disk pulls >60MB/s read over S-ATA, external disks over USB-2 pulls ~30MB/s and a 4GB Corsair Flash Voyager also pulls almost 30MB/s read speed.
That read speed is almost universal, as it’s the effective USB-2 limit. 21MB/s is laughable. If it’s due to Corsair’s (bad) AES-256 implementation, they are the ones to laugh at (assuming they actually use it – is it even properly documented?).
As for write speed; even this old 4GB Voyager manages ~7.2MB/s, meaning they haven’t improved one bit.
If they haven’t managed to improve the write speed, I’d say the need someone to teach them the benefits of “more data lines”. If the read speed is really as bad as reported, I’d say Corsair is killing themselves. I however choose to believe the article author did a rather large mistake. For Corsair’s sake… else they did the mistake.
nice 1 martin” its more STUDIER cousin” and @10 pixfix things break not broke
“PinkDaizy” can you send us the link to get the Sony 32gig? Thanks.
@9″Er, this a joke? I already ordered Sony 32GB flashdrives from China for 60$ each. What is this?” this is you getting b-m fu–ed
Actually, Kanguru has been making 32 and 64GB flash drives for quite some time. They are very expensive but Corsair is not the first. Kanguru FTW. http://www.engadget.com/2006/04/07/kangurus-64gb-flash-drive-max-only-2-800/
I bought a 2GB Sony Microvault from K-Mart a while back. The package said it worked with Windows 98 if you install the drivers. I did and the first time I tried to copy a 700MB video file to it, it locked up my system. Tried several times, and even chatted with Sony’s tech support. They had no clue why it kept locking up my system. It worked with small files, but not with large ones. I ended up returning it.
@ 27
Must be a fake! I have a few made in China, very cheap la!. When you try to copy a huge file the drive crashes. Works fine when used with small file sizes. Go Figure!
@Rekrul
lol @ windows 98.
On a real note. When it means bootable does it mean you can install an OS on it and plug it into any device with a monitor and it’ll boot that OS and run appz?
Why not make the warrenty lifetime???
its not likely that the company existst in 10 years
anyways!!at#4 im pretty sure that solid state hd’s
wich is entirely chipbased will be just around the bend.
@28 0tt0
“very cheap la!”
^^^
lol singaporean!
@22 Wolf
Didn’t you read the first word in your quote? It says “_fairly_ respectable”…
too expensive to be of any use… It’s just a toy to show off right now…
well for the price its bad cause i have a seagate portable that is so small it fits in pocket i can buy 3 160gig externals for the price of one of those babys, but i do own a 8 gig flash drive one the cruzer and i do enjoy it alot cause its easy way for bringin files pictures etc etc, but the for price of that just get u a good external, i think u can get 2 500 gig externals for that price at walmart lol
Netranger, are you an idiot? There IS NO 32GB SONY FLASH DRIVE
We love these new mil-spec thumbdrives. We’ve been using the 32G version since Nov07. It allows us to run our own OS and apps no matter where we are using TrueCrypt open-source security software that uses AES 256-bit encryption and other security safeguards.

@ 26
Kanguru flash drives have the worst r/w speeds ever =// but hell, who needs a damn 64 gb flash drive, if you need that much data, you might as well carry a laptop
what do you expect if you buy something from China, they make crap cheap devices compared to quality in the west( barring the inbred stuff from the cowardly english).
Waterproof? At least Atlantians can have bigger flash drives now…Companies always underplay the economical advantages of the Atlatian market, especially for shiny electronics…
AWESOME
i bought one of the Corsair 8GB Voyagers as soon as they came out and i haven’t regretted it once.
these are super sturdy and super fast.
What is the data transfer speeds though? What is the “LIMITED WARRANTY” mean? What are the things it covers and not? A bit dubious that
