I have to say that even though i will give this new v3RC a go i still prefer the last build of Version 2. so far all the v3RC’s havve given me all sorts of errors. like creating the dvd files and then saying that they are not writeable files, is just one example. anyways ill give it a go. but i can see myself uninstalling and in the end going back to version 2

Stick with older versions for now. These Version 3 releases have a bunch of random errors and the new menu system is fudged.

All v3 recently released have one or another errors..when corrected will be awesome and the speed of conversion is amazing!! Will try this one although I am not so confident..hope final version will have all of them fixed!!

I’d sell my own mother for a .mkv to X converter that would reliably convert HD files so that my PS3 could play them.

Even better if Sony would release a patch that made the PS3 able to play .mkv files…

  27. goob
    February 14th, 2008 | 16:56

Yeah previous version 3 was so screwed. When I combined 2 files it would loop back the first file instead of playing both files like the previous version. I even went into the menu to check that loop playback was off, and it still gave me converted files looping. Hope they fix this in the final release.

Christian…I love your posts, but I thought this was funny:

“(without the need of avi codec download)”

.avi isn’t a codec but rather a container!

@27: Just get a PC with a graphics card with HDMI output and then you can simply play the files direct from your PC to the HDTV. Optical media is for n00bs.

    @BigHeadWeb

You can install ubuntu linux for example on your ps3.
This is supported out of box.

I’m none too happy about the changes to the menu templates… the older versions of the program allowed for very simple (IMHO, preferable!) menus… now the new version complicates things too much, by forcing you to make a chapter and track menu, besides the “regular” top menu…

The only positive thing about this version is the blending of two or more original files into one, but the needlessly labyrinthian menu makes this a “two steps forward, one step back” kind of update.

  40. Keeens
    February 14th, 2008 | 18:44

Finally upgraded from a very old version… this one seems to be much faster with conversion and the menus look alot better.

Agreed. One of the greatest movies I’ve seen in a while; I’m always in hope that one of these days, it’ll pop up here. Ontopic- ConvertXtoDVD is THE best DVD creating software. All of the downloaded movies look very crisp and clear on my 46″ LCD.

Can anyone help me with tweaking my settings for better output to my new widescreen LCD?
Have been using ConvertX ver. 2.2.3.258 for quite some time and have always gotten great quality results from all kinds of video. Since Install, I never had any need to make any setting adjustments… UNTIL NOW! - Recently got a 32″ widescreen LCD and have been most disappointed with how it looks on the new LCD.
Is there any setting changes I should look at making that anyone could suggest.

    Much appreciated.

I can’t get the crack to work and im not a newb, any ideas.

  52. Shlomtzion
    February 15th, 2008 | 00:35

    I must say,

After all - this App have changed my life in the past year since I have encounterd it first , I’ve been leeching sharing and ofcourse finally creating very high quality movie dvd prods…. with all I wanted - it was the first dvd - video format creator that I found has ability to create subtitles as the layers they should be seperatly…

and almost no troubles ….or crashes like most dvd-creator/crap wannabe apps..

since ver 3 - the conversion speed is awseome!

this ver has the new menus with many options however it seems they have missed the point in the idea of creating the menu…. instead of allowing me to create a ready made template (pretty geeky and ugly with many many stupid addons whom u cannot remove … )

instead of adding just the ability to create a template… such as buttons where ever I want etc…
and the Preview of the menu could still be done even though it’s not rendered until you finish … - making a “like” it should look would be real easy! why wont they get it?!

still the best Dvd creator , even makes the TMPGenc unneeded and TMPGenc cannot create DVD-Video anyway…. :) it;s only good for resampling videos and if u use a TMPGenc done file it will vary much since the conversion quality is not as good as it is said…

    February 15th, 2008 | 00:36

Excellant program. I’ve had a few cracked versions now. This is much better than V2,, wot with all the new menu stuff n all. Its that good i think i’ll buy it when version 4 comes out,,,, if i can get my head round the fact the french have done something worthwhile :)

  54. stix
    February 15th, 2008 | 00:42

schlomtzion : You can use TMPGenc to make DVD video.

I’ve stopped using it myself since using convertX,,,but if i remember right, it was tmpgenc to make a d2v (?) and audio file (wav ?), then use tmpg dvd author to convert those 2 to vobs ~ something like that. It gave excellant quality DVD’s,,,but it took a long time to complete, 3 or 4 hours or so.

you can convertish mkv to play on a ps3 as I did that with a prison break episode the other day. Just use red kawa ps3 video 9 program and change the filter when converting to do a one pass mkv convert. Managed to convert a 1 gig epsiode into mp4 for my ps3. Gonna grab this program as I’ve used an old version of this before and it’s good.
