Conan O Brien 2008 01 31 Dr Phil HDTV XVID-BAJSKORV

Now, what I want you to do is, ‘just all get along’. Doesn’t that remind you of Dr. Phil ? He’s been attacked by Howard Stern (on Letterman), accused of being a fake by the general public and revered among his show guests for helping them. I mean, what sort of harm can a TV show do that offers advice to people with psychological and behavioural issues, even if it sometimes is just ‘common sense’. Even if the public consensus is good or bad, his shows are still fun to watch. The last post I made that included Dr. Phil was his interview with Jay Leno. I’m curious to watch how Conan is going to run the interview. Oh yeah, it’s a new month now, February 1st. Time to change the page on your calendars!

How much harm can someone who actually IS NOT a qualified psychologist do? (He’s NOT THAT kind of Dr!)

Now THAT is the question someone with ‘common sense’ would ask themselves.

” How much harm can someone who actually IS NOT a qualified psychologist do? ”

    Some other, some.
Dr.Phil, none. He seems like a guy WITH common sense. And a friendly/fatherly/lovingly tone – so compare that with the average psychologist whose only love is drugs. Drugs, more drugs, drugs to all.

I saw a Dr. Phil episode where they were discussing the Iraq war. Two women was voicing their opinion that the U.S. should get their troops out of Iraq now that the government is overthrown and Saddam is dead and instead let the U.N. peacetroops take their place in Iraq, the way it is normally done.

Phil replied “don’t you understand you are being used by Saddam?” and that “you are being quoted in enemy propaganda” and the people in the audience agreed!
The horrifying stupidity of the general public is appauling, but hey they voted for GWB so what can you expect.

Just a quick point to one of the mindlessly stupid posts – you do realize that psychologists can’t prescribe any of those “pills pills and more pills” you were talking about, and that they’re generally considered the alternative to the pill-pushing psychiatric industry, ie. talking rather than using pills to level you out.

The biggest problem with good ol boy Phil is that he tries to carry himself with the gravitas of a trained professional, which can be misleading – there’s a difference between offering some sort of folksy wisdom, and proffering genuine advice to people in need.

For most of his guests, its probably not a problem – their problems ranging from failing sex lives to cheating husbands. But to the one person that genuinely needs help…there’s a great responsibility that goes along with taking on the mantle of a trained professional, especially in a field that can so drastically affect someones life for good or ill.
I guess the real question is: if you were in need of a psychologist, someone to talk to, wouldn’t you choose the one that was actually qualified for the job?

  28. Dr. Dre > Dr. Phil
    February 2nd, 2008 | 11:09

Dr. Dre is as much of a Doctor as Phil is.

If it wasn’t so sad, you could enjoy how all the hosts (conan, leno, letterman) treat him as if he was a doc for real. well you don’t need universities/a degree as long you keep pretending you got one…

    @24

“and that they’re generally considered the alternative to the pill-pushing psychiatric industry,”

Not really. They send the name of the drug they propose to the doctor who gives the recipe. If you do not wish to eat them, you will have problems as the psychologist will often tell the doctor there is a need for this person to be put in care.

“I guess the real question is: if you were in need of a psychologist, someone to talk to, wouldn’t you choose the one that was actually qualified for the job?”
I would prefer one who sane and I can see DrPhil is. Unlike most.

What kind of doctor is Dr. Dre one might ask. Well, i will answer this shorty:

Dr. Dre has got a PHD – A Player Haters Degree.

Having been a victim of the so-called mental health care professionals myself, I have to agree with you. They are, for the most part, sicker than their patients, inherently stupid, arrogant, smug, self-involved and greedy. They drive the good practitioners, i.e. the one’s who actually see their patients as people not pay checks, out of the profession so that they cannot be shown up for the incompetent mediocrities they truly are.

And to those who say Dr. Phil isn’t qualified to be a practicing psychologist, take note: he isn’t practicing psychology on his show. He is “counseling” and in many states you don’t even need a college degree to hang up a shingle and offer counseling. That’s why you have to check to make sure your “Counselor” is at least a CSW (Certfied Social Worker) who has to be licensed. In the case of Dr. Phil, he simply offers free advice. Since he isn’t charging, technically he isn’t even “counseling” and therefore not in violation of any state laws – in the same way a priest, minister, swami, imam or rabbi can offer counsel without fancy degrees or fear of being arrested for practicing without a license.

I am in Europe so do not know how the laws are like in america but here mostly anyone can be locked up with no court or anything beforehand. Also the same persons can be very friendly out of their work – but in work they believe any crap there is that someone has said about their patient, not caring to even try find out the truth. They have read their mostly american textbooks in their schools that even warn about just such, but they do not care. Also there is a huge difference between those who are private and those working for the government. Even if they are the same persons, working as both governmental and as private at the same time or first one then another.

If someone’s mind is messed up, messing it up more with drugs definitely does not help. If it is not messed up to start with, couple of years with several drugs at the same time will accomplish the purpose.

What is also awful is that of the old people, most who end up in care, no matter the reason, mostly as they are physically, not mentally sick (or just old) – will be given the same drugs that are given in nuthouses. To keep them quiet.

I agree. It’s all fCked up and against the patient no matter where you live. The best thing to do if you are having psychiatric problems is to never ask for help, or don’t get caught again if you’ve managed to escape the tender mercies of the psychiatric hospital.

The Virginia Tech sniper had it right. Slaughter the lazy bastards first – even they just look like the scum who blew you off when you begged for help because you knew you had a problem. Maybe one day the so called sane people will take the hint. Kindly kill us out right, rather than with your sick and twisted vision of care and concern, because WE know YOU DON’T REALLY CARE!!!

If they didn’t drug us they’d have to do their jobs – as in give real therapy and therapeutic care. Easier and more cost effective to just medicate people.

I once had a shrink that did weekly group medication management sessions with 10 or more people then billed for individual psychotherapy sessions. That’s one 50 minute session split 10 ways, 5 times a day, five days a week and billed at $350 an hour to the government as well as private insurance. When I complained that I needed to talk to someone not just pop pills, the fcker handed me a prescription for Thorazine even though I suffer from mild depression and threatened to have me hospitalized.

This was at Northwestern University Hospital in Illinois – considered one of the best PRIVATE medical facilities in the country. So ask yourself, if this is what happens at the best, what is really going on at the worst?

  42. emos make me sick

45; i’m glad somebody here isnt an EMO.

Seeking for help is just attention whoring that EMOs do.

All those ppl who seek help do it just to score with the opposite sex. That way they can always tell how they have been “sooo depressed” and the partner will say “oooh you poor thing” and whip out their genitalias. I got some serious issues but do i seek help? NO. i rather drink heavily and then kill myself.

I RATHER DRINK HEAVILY AND THEN ONE DAY KILL MY SELF.

“as in give real therapy and therapeutic care. Easier and more cost effective to just medicate people.”

Personally I do not know about that. The drugs are cheap. Talking to people, you need people who want to do that. People cost lots.
I have no mental problems but was forced to take medicine because of false allegations. Have met several similar people. I do not know if there are pubs/such where you live, you could possibly find some to talk to about the problems you have, I used to frequent one a couple of years ago when I lived in another town (as there was cheap beer, I never told any of the locals I had been medicated because I did not want the stigma that comes with it) where all people on the table talked about their medicine and such, possibly there are ones where you live as well.

For depressed people, I would think sun and exercise might help. (Looked up Northern Uni Hospital, seems to be in Chicago.) Don’t know though. Personally I tend to go out more when the weather is better, sit inside when it’s bad.

Might work for women in (america I guess)but not men. Men who whine are despised upon (at least here in Europe.)

I would wish to add, if someone is taking medicine, before going to frequent some bar, check out first if the medicine is such that one can take at the same time as booze.
Also if quitting medicine, do not quit like I did, stopped taking it. The withdrawal symptoms can be severe. Took me six months before I was ok. Would be better to take less every month, gradually.

to be honest if the label on the pills says that you shouldnt mix alcohol with it, then you should do it. Why would somebody ever be so wimpy that would not mix booze with pills? if i had some pills now, i would take them. I’m getting wasted right now as usual.

Yeppers. Tis true- its using psychology just subconsciously. Just another tactic (a cowardly, self-degrading one at that) to get the nappy. If you can’t get women just being YOU- then you aren’t a player or a mack or anything, just a liar to yourself and others. If ya wanna fantasize, playing someone you aren’t- then go ahead- just dont try to start a relationship or something- its bound to fail, obviously coz its founded on lies.

“I do not know if there are pubs/such where you live, you could possibly find some to talk to about the problems you have”

It’s been my experience that most people don’t really want to hear others problems – they’ve got enough of their own. Those that do pretend to listen are actually looking for weaknesses that they can use to take exploit the other person. Nor do I want to listen to people whining at me – I’ve got my own stuff to deal with.

The truth is, I have nothing left to say to anyone because what was a mild depression 15 years ago is now a full blown mental illness typified by RAGE, anxiety, RAGE, suicidal thoughts, RAGE, homicidal ideation, and RAGE!!!!!!!!!
