Comodo Firewall Pro 3.0
Comodo Firewall Pro, one of the best firewalls available for Windows XP and Vista, has just been updated to version 3.0. Like all previous versions, Comodo Firewall Pro is free, and we like free. Unlike many other free (and some pay) firewall programs, Comodo has a rock solid record for security; we like this even more.
New features in this update include a change to the user interface (it looks more professional now and less GUI 101), an updated host prevention engine and application analysis, and a great new feature called “Clean PC” which profiles all the applications on a new PC (or a freshly formatted PC), registers them as “safe” and then only allows applications you approve to be installed. That’s a great way to avoid malware from getting installed on your system – or the system of a less technical savvy relative. The application white list has also been updated to nearly 1 million trusted applications, about a 100x increase over Comodo 2.4.
One warning for users of Windows Vista and Avast! anti-virus, there seems to be a conflict between Avast! and Comodo, leading to long start-up times in Windows Vista. Updating to the newest version of Avast! before installing Comodo can help this problem, but it is still unresolved. Fear not – the program has only been in final release for a day – we’re confident the conflict will be resolved quickly, but until then, you might want to wait on Comodo Pro Firewall 3. For everyone else, if you are still using the Windows Firewall (or worse, no firewall at all), we recommend giving Comodo a try.

Woot, time to upgrade! I think Vista users should be jumping up and down in joy right now because the best free firewall is now working on their OS.(I’ll stick to my XP though
)
i used this application for few months. the good thing about it is it doesn’t use too much resources and it’s fairly reliable, but these questions for every application can become really annoying. anyway, def better solution than norton
Where is the link?
Is this better than Kerio (Sunbelt) Personal Firewall (freeware as well) ?
Mayby its time to have some firewall and antivirus on my vista com, have been running without for allmorst 2 months now..
i been using nod32 for few years now…is this better than nod32?
nvm…nod32 is antivirus
i use an amd 64 bit processor and comodo seems to lock up my system… does anyone know about this and is this version free from that problem… had the same problem with many freinds using amd 64bit processors.. intel no problem.. damn amd.. ok this comment is officially too long. :p
I used to really like Comodo but then noticed it was seriously heavy on system resources and stopped using it.
YES!!! Its about time! but wtf happened to the notification email they were supposed to send when it was released? Did anyone else signup for the news letter and did it get sent to you? Good thing rlslog has my back! hahah Nice one rls!
This is a realy gud firewall i like
lol
just installed it…omg, this is a great firewall and it’s more easy than the previous versions,to open ports!!!!
thnx rlslog!!!
Quick Reference Manual for installing Norton.
Gd luck!
1. Go to the store and buy Norton for lotsa ca$h, get the trial, or rip the cracked version from somewhere.
2. Install Norton (just follow the steps till you’re done)
3. Enjoy the Norton experience…..
4… Yeah… there’s a 4… What is it you say? Norton slows down your computer and claims all your RAM and CPU? Does it annoy you with its messages? Proceed to step 5!
5. Get the NRT (Norton Removal Tool)
6. Execute the NRT (The best software Symantec/Norton provides)
7. Follow the steps of the NRT and reboot if neccesary.
8. Get the free aVast! on-acces anti-virus soft with the free licence for home users.
9. Enjoy the aVast! experience. There’s little to worry about, no nagging, no resource hogging, no bloatness, just a great piece of freeware, availlable for you anytime, anywhere!
10. You might want to consider some additional safety measures, but that is all up to you alone
just click on updater button and it will update to version 3.
is this as good as windows firewall?
Awesome, thanks for the news!! Excellent firewall.
has anyone had problems with uninstalling Comodo Firewall completely from their system?
sygate firewall ftw
@#9
did you use the 64 bit versie
http://download.comodo.com/cfp/download/setups/CFP_Setup_3.0.13.268_XP_Vista_x64.exe
I used 2.4 for about 4 hours.. was a very good firewall, but it was unable to prompt for a action while a fullscreen game was running, and as a gammer, its exactly what I dont need in a firewall.
Have they fixed this in 3.0? If yes, i´m moving now. If not, what is the best alternative over there?
Thanks!
Great firewall! Thanks for the heads up.
sygate firewall, great stuff
too bad, it was released 3 yrs ago
Lmao @16
yeah matey, it’s better
@9
i use 64bit windows xp and there is no locking up. its just you.
@#10: Me too.13.. once in a while it would just decide to use 100% of my cpu until I reset… so I uninstalled it
@#18: Yes, even after i uninstalled Comodo, reinstalled and uninstalled numerous other crappy software firewalls (Sunbelt, Online Armor, Outpost and some other POS), windows still said “Your COMODO firewall is not active…” when I had nothing installed. I had even uninstalled it with YourUninstaller to boot.
I ultimately settled on Sygate… most other stuff is kiddie crap. I think I still have a version of Tiny Personal Firewall laying around here somewhere. Now THAT was a great firewall.
me here with kerio, CF(2.4) is a litlle problematic.
it dosn’t ask me to allow my ADSL connection when i try to connect. didnt find a way to enable it from within he firewall, so i’m with kerio, which is way easy ad very comfortable.
this new version is AWESOME!
they reworked the whole GUI and setup process, it’s so easy to manage now…
I LOVE IT!
fuc.kkkkkkkkkk.!
the new version requird 85 mb of HD space!
i reconsider if to install. well il give a try, but 85 for a firewall, its to much. even windows xp dosn’t take that much.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS FIREWALL. this is a piece of crap. i tried playing CoD4 online and it dropped me into the 10s of FPS. also maps load slower. not worth it – system hog. Zonealarm was ok (no slower performance).
what the fonk are you talking about r1pper?
my full install weighs in at ~30MB…
Why do you need a firewall?
If you know what you’re doing and you’re not hosting any servers, then I can’t see any reason why you would need a firewall as a end-user. Unless you tend to run every .exe you find and don’t have any decent anti-virus, then there isn’t any reason for you to monitor your network traffic.
is this better then the windows firewall?
@33
just stick with windows firewall.
@32
totally agree. just use your router firewall and windows firewall and your fine.
mostly paranoia. =)
and i don’t want cracked games to report to their mommies.
i generally like to know what programs do on my pc.
Just tryed installing v 3.0.13.268 and it give me this interesting error “you seem to be having comodo firewall installed using a older version. Please go to start>control panel>add remove programs section to un-install comodo”
Would be nice if i could install it in the first place to remove it heh.
Oh well
why need a firewall??? man… have you ever seen a firewall log of the constant unrequested connections from internet and other networks??? have you ever wondered how on earth did i get spyware??
is this firewall better then windows firewall???? windows firewall scored 0 on testes… comodo scored almost 10000 only 2 other firewalls did that… that’s a really nice firehole windows has…
sygate??? you’re kidding right??? i also used it… if you test it it’s almost as bad as windows firewall…
CoD4 drops FPS?? I’ve got news for you… FPS is processed by your graphics card not your modem… so check you graphics drivers
by the way #29 winxp takes almost 1GB and if you don’t take good care of it, can grow up to 10GB just the windows directy (i’ve seen it once)… take it from a system administrator
as for system resourcer, comodo is using about 2MB of memory in my laptop… Norton used about 150MB… Zone Alarm that is classified by matousec as a “Poor” firewall (on my system crashes evey 5 minutes) was using about 50mb
#36 if you ever tried a beta version there was an issue with uninstall check comodo’s forums
#35
if you ever tried to update a windows xp, first release from scrach, using the net… you’d notice that you get virus almost instanly… a nasty one that would force you to reboot every 30 seconds… call it paranoia, but after installing xp in over 200 PCs i started noticing all the junk comeing unnoticed from networks
ZoneALarm is an unstable joke, MS windows firewall is half-blind. Comodo is the best solution if you’re a power user and gamer. Lean, elegant, versatile and stable.
I used Comodo for a long time but eventually I got tired of repeating the same rules, it seemed that the program wouldnt “remember” my settings so I changed it to Outpost 2008 and I’m loving it!
@spaceb
PEBKAC
Maybe try the new version, they really simplified making rules.
This is much more mature than the previous v2…
If I have a 64-bit processor but run Windows XP 32-bit, which version of Comodo Pro should I get?
@ Kurt
Get the 32-bit version, 32-bit version for 32-bit OS
Any rapidshare links plz?
@20
thanks
I use windows xp 32 bit… so its 3 bit for me.. but will try on vista 64 bit second os
@25
thanks
but its nt just me and i use windows xp 32bit with sp2 and xp plus..norto and antivir anitivirus. my friends over here are facing the problem but they use avg. will test out the new verson and give a feedback
@45
it’s free and the DL from the homepage of comodo is just as fast as RS.com
Anyone tried Online Armor PF?
Anyone knows of a program that’s not a firewall, just a blocker, like Little Snitch on OSX, that blocks programs from phoning home?
BTW, wondering why COmodo Antivirus has not been updated. :O
#48
If you want just a blocker, give a try to NetLimiter 2 (it was posted here in rlslog some time ago).
The program can limit (in speed) any active connection, and if you enable the “firewall” of it, you have a blocker.
Anyone have tried the fullscreen games with the new version 3?
Is it able to draw the action dialog in front of games now?
try the leak test on comodo site
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/onlinetest.html
my outpost pro failed.
even if i told outpost to block the .exe
I’ve tried Comodo as well. Comodo didn’t like sending it’s popup messages to remote deskop for some reason – I could only see them if I went over to the server monitor. Pain in the butt.
Server uses Jetico Personal Firewall now, which seems good and works well via remote desktop.
31, u r right, its dosn’t take 85, just 28 mb.
before i installed it properly, during install process, it told me CF required at least 85mb. so, now i know its a mistake.
I tried installing it with ESET nod32 anti-virus on my system…. went haywire.Locked up my system and wouldn’t let me get past the nod32 internet lookup.Didn’t happen on ver2 so who knows what’s going on.
they do:
http://forums.comodo.com/
(probably)
does RLSLOG look like a support site? hm.
What’s REALLY wrong with Vista’s own filewall? Just set it up properly by running wf.msc and you don’t need any 3rd party firewall. I don’t care about those stupid tests and how many points it’s scoring. Just use your common sense and stop being so paranoid.
i tried comodo for a few weeks, it was a bit of a resource hog and the biggest problem was that it slowed my connection in a major way, downloads and even browsing was very annoying…
i found a better one in my opnion called “look n’ stop”, it’s not free but u can get the cracked version, it’s very light on resources and doesn’t bug too much, and yet it’s very powerfull
I have been waiting for this from a long time. Its my favorite firewall.
the new version works perfectly. i have none of the above problems under XP32bit… 8MB is not too much of a memory footprint for this decent piece of software. and the new gui is just awesome, so much better than previous versions.
i’m happy. =)
does anyone has slow connections in browsing and downloading, after installing Comodo or my isp really sucks????
What’s the use of a firewall that’s spyware itself!?
“Comodo uses log files comprising of IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track movements throughout the site, calculate the number of document and file downloads, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.”
Right from their page: http://www.comodo.com/privacy.asp
I wonder why they don’t advertise THIS.
If you use VPN I advice you to stay away from version 3
hamachi works, no problem.
@rofl: hahaha, you cant be serious, can you? that part of the privacy policy is about the webpage, not the software! dooh
i think there’s a hidden slander operation going, consisting of hacking script kiddies who fear a wider publicity of this excellent product.
version 2 was a great little firewall
version 3 screwed my pc
went back to v2,will wait a little bit longer and try again
check out their forum for issues
How about the speed? Last time i installed this firewall my utorrent download speed dropped to 50%!
I tried the demo of Comodo and the piece of crap kept crashing. Uninstalled and went back to the old Sygate.
I’ve used Outpost Pro for a few years now, and after the new release of the recent update to Outpost Pro 2008, I decided to give Comodo another try with their updated version…to see if the system resource usage has been reduced, as the new Outpost has increased it’s footprint.
I’m very happy to say that not only have they reduced the footprint of arguably the best firewall available, but they’ve reduced it to the point that I’m now a convert to Comodo over Outpost.
The leak tests speak for themselves…but more importantly, you can’t beat free!
Great job Comodo team!
it has absolutely no negative impact on my DL speeds in utorrent. don’t know what you’re doing, guys, but it’s most likely not the software’s fault…
i can imagine that it can cause some serious problems if your system is corrupted in the first place. if you really want to make sure you have no problems i recommend to try it after your next fresh windows install.
oh, you don’t do regular windows reinstalls? well, good luck with anything.
There are too many Comodo fanboys on the net. I believe there are Comodo staff who are shamelessly promoting this hard-to-remove BLOATWARE. Their new job seems to be, to get onto different sites and promote this CRAPPY FIREWALL, by giving only positive reviews for Comodo, leading other people to read the often “positive” (and BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY COMODO) reviews and “supposedly unbiased” tests, and thus by giving the other firewalls poor ratings.
Try out some other firewalls for yourself first, then just settle on one that works for you. Don’t buy into these “Testimonials” that pressure you to make a decision towards Comodo.
Chris.
bloatware, lol.
i like how you present your arguments. no, wait… aww, you dog, there ARE no arguments!
ha!
very clever.
How am I supposed to uninstall this program. After testing it out – it completly slowed down my fast PC running Vista (don’t have any AV software on atm). Attempted to open FireFox, and nothing happened for 15mins because I was waiting for Comodo to detect it being opened.
I’ve uninstalled the app – but in Device Manager I still have Comodo ‘Network adapters’ that are preventing all network activity through them. I’ve tried to uninstalled them but they don’t dissapear. Disabling them does nothing either. Zone Alarm was much better when I used it on XP, but I think I’ll just stick with the advanced Windows Vista Firewall. It blocks Internet communication by default – is easy to configure – and I have Spybot SD for everything else. Now I just have to find some AV software – and I think I’ll be using AntiVir if all goes well.
Comodo Firewall V2 while not as “secure”as V3 didn’t hog cpu /resources or slow down my PC or my Internet connection.
I wish I had never upgraded to V3, machine runs slower, Internet traffic is slower, pop ups don’t always warn me that an application is being blocked.
I am not bothering to go back to V2, I could get it to properly uninstall and rebuilt my machine. I’m off to try other products.
To all the people I recommended V2 to to, I DONT recommend V3.
Why’d they have to ruin it.
p.s. despite what has been said in this thread earlier, Comodo has a bad reputation on PRIVACY. Look around, they do collect information via their products.
CORRECTION IT SLOWED MY PC DOWN VERY MUCH
squareball
same thing with my internet connection. instead of 2.4 mb/sec with the windows firewall i’m now far under 1 mb/sec (((
Hey, I don’t care what they say. But Comodo has been working REAL fine with my pc. I don’t have any problems with it. And it consumes only 8, 928 k of memory usage(I think…lol… Well I looked at Windows Task Manager)And I think svchosts are slowing down your internet connections. (try installing comodo firewall and look at the small portion entitled “Traffic” and you will see… How much it consumes… lol… Currently it is consuming 57.61%… lol…) I am no techie but hey… It works…
BTW I am no COMODO promoter I am just a USER… lol…
BTW try buying a new computer and see… You know how pc’s degenerate… lol… Your computers must be old and ancient (maybe 2 years?). lol…
Oh yeah before I forget, try using google and search test results for firewalls… And think if COMODO can bribe all of them… lol… BTW before accusing a company, you might want to check the facts… LOTS OF PEOPLE LIKE, LOVE, AND LIVE WITH IT!!! I am one of them
Hello, used to use zonealarm, but that became bloatware and effectiveness has lessened. So i switched to comodo v2.4. That ran well with my old hp compaq tablet running XP SP2. No conflicts with Avira or anti-malware progs. two days ago, i installed comodo v3. Fortunately i set a restore point before the installation. After i installed, i upgraded my spywareblaster, and some bluetooth installer kept popping up. Also, i counldnt access my wireless LAN, despite setting the restrictions on CFP to nil. Worse, all the desktop icons were frozen in place and i couldnt move them… Uninstalled CFP 3 and did a rollback. I may try again later after having upgraded all other programmes first… and set a restore point.
