Colma The Musical LiMiTED DVDSCR XViD-ALLiANCE

Here’s just a really quick post about new release from ALLiANCE: it’s a limited musical “Colma”, a title which won’t be probably too attractive for most of you. Although this movie received 2 nominations for various film awards and rates quite well in critics’ reviews, it’s still rather a cheap independent movie coming on 1 CD release in standard quality with black and white scenes.

In the town of Colma, just south of San Francisco, the dead outnumber the living one thousand to one. Here, one wouldn’t expect teenagers to burst out in song, or dance around cemeteries and streets. But, that’s exactly what happens. Best pals Rodel, Billy, and Maribel find themselves in a state of limbo; fresh out of high school, they are just beginning to explore a new world of part-time mall jobs and crashing college parties. As newfound revelations and romances challenge their relationships with one another and their parents, the trio must assess what to hold onto, and how to best follow their dreams. It’s a love song to the city, and to the residents who dream of a better (and more musical) life.

Wow lol. I live in Colma. This is weird to see on this site. It looks pretty boring though.

I saw this at the Asian Film Festival. It’s mostly interesting ‘cuz there’s Filipinos in the movie, which you don’t see in most mainstream dealiebobs. The music is okay. If you like to support indie films, check this out, otherwise just look to future releases by the crew.

People, this film was made by real people, not a corporation, like Hollywood movies are. It’s a small indie film, made with the blood and sweat of the people involved and with their own money. Pirating this is stealing from an actual person’s pocket – NOT a corporation. clownmonkey says if you support indie film check it out. Yes, if you support indie film, go buy the DVD, don’t STEAL it.

I actually bought the DVD from the website, so my conscience is clear. Piracy is going to happen. You can try to stop it, like Metallica did. Or you can shape it to your ends, like well nobody I can name off-hand (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah? The Chocolate Rain guy?). I too would prefer the people to support little films like these, fueled primarily by debt and passion. However I would really like movies like COLMA just to become better known. So yeah, buy the DVD, and if you have connections to people with TV stations, pony up some distribution monies, but definitely WATCH THE MOVIE.

…Though I still think it’s a little nichey, and the music quality is variable. I love “Crash the Party,” but I HATE “Deadwalking” (or whatever that song is called).

I just checked the website to give a link to buy the DVD, and apparently it’s not for sale. So now I’m confused as to where I got it, and my conscience is murky. Oh well, buy it anyway.

pwned. the dvd has never been for sale. you could have done your research and checked release dates on amazon and seen that it doesn’t come out on video til nov. 20

pirate movies all you want, but don’t get on your high horse about supporting “indie film” while you’re posting comments on RLSLOG.

I bought it at the 2006 AFF from the filmmakers, who were promoting (and distributing) the movies themselves. They were also selling the soundtrack. It had been touring the festival for about a year. About six months later I noticed they picked up limited distribution in NY. They must’ve sold the rights to a distributor, since I highly doubt they have the money to do it themselves.

How is it dwelling upon the ground, bison? I wave at you from atop my high horse.

Uh, yeah, cuz that’s exactly how it works. Mmm hmm. You bought it from the filmmakers at a *festival*. And then six months later they got limited distribution. Why would they “sell” you a dvd (at a film festival, of all places) if they got limited distribution six months later?

Anyway, keep supporting independent film! You sound like a “true” supporter!

    ^_^

p.s. for the record, the Colma guys NEVER sold dvds, and to THIS DAY if you were to ask them for a dvd, they’d STILL tell you that it’s out of their hands and that everyone has to wait until nov. 20. Many people at the Los Angeles Film Festival were denied copies when requested. Clownmonkey…you must be special. I stand corrected. I am so totally pwnt. O_o
