I’m proud to be able to say here is a quality PC game that will deliver an awsome gaming experince after a couple of weeks of mediocre offerings from other games. Colin McRea DiRT Is the latest game in the Colin McRea rally series, this time however it doesn’t just add better graphics etc to an old formula it redefines the series to include all sorts of off-road motorsports that add a whole lot more enjoyment to the game. Before DiRT the Colin McRae Rally series aimed at rally enthusiasts and didn’t offer a whole lot to someone wanting some fun outside of the games target market. Almost Everyone in Europe knows the Colin McRae series and i’m fairly certain that the game have been renamed over in the states because Colin is’nt as well known over there. The last Colin McRae rally game was 05, they missed 06 and now you can see why they did, to put more delvelopment time into DiRT which was a wise decision because it has paid off. What the developers did was to ditch the old Colin McRae style then borrowed elements from games like Toca Race Driver and put in the off-road aka “DiRT” theme. There are tonne of different types of off-road cars and races of which a few can be seen in the screenshots below. DiRT offers you the ability to actually race other cars instead of the time trial type races featured in older Colin McRea games which should be a big plus for most of you as its a more accessible type of gameplay, don’t fret if you like time trial races as these have been kept for you rally lovers.
I have played the Xbox 360 demo and it was superb brilliant graphics, top notch physics and a really good original menu system. The best part though is the great new damage modeling system, making it a lot more fun to crash into other cars and watching ‘em fall apart! As I’m sure you can gather from the screenies to be able to play this on a PC your going to need a rather beefy cutting edge PC, many of you including me will have either upgrade or get the Xbox 360 version to enjoy this masterpiece. Even if you PC meets the minimum requirements stated below dont expect it to look as it does in the pictures, this is a next gen game so it requires next gen hardware to look its best. As with most newly released games this is a CLONE meaning that it needs emulating tools to get it to run. Hopefully this game will be cracked soon, fingers crossed.
Also here’s a little something i noticed, it looks like this game has borrowed a little trend from The Scene in the form of not capitalising the i in the name DiRT. Even though i’m sure there’s other reasons for this it made me smile. One thing that does concern me though it about this release is the size of the ISO which is 4.73 GB, that if i remember correctly this will not fit onto a standard DVD-R which is a little annoying. This is a great and much needed update to a fledgling series and even if you don’t usually play racing games you should defiantly check this one out, you wont regret it.

Looks great, but probably plays like ass. I don’t buy the ‘redifined’ shit, I bet it’s still the gaphole of a game the other Colin McCree (who the f*ck is that loser anyway?) games where. And the screens are polished, not real game screens.
Besides, racing games are for pimply little boys and no-life men (those who can affort a decent grapic card). I’ve got a freakin’ dirt-trail behind my house, so I can kick the dirt for REAL anytime I want! Why would I want to play a game like this? Why am I yelling?

I would not say that they f**ked people who only has SM3.0.
This game is so demanding performance-wise that if you have a card with enough horsepower to run it chances are that you have SM3.0 anyway.
That’s no the case with FEAR or Battlefield. According to the developers of Crysis that game will scale very well (which this does not) to fit older machines.

great game, played the demo and it was great. i dont have a good computer either, 2.5 ghz, 512 mb, radeon x1300 so it kinda runs decent on lowest settings but still, very fun.

Yep had I had a x800 pro vivo flashed to XT and yea it was really good, but like you said it got old, not slow. It didn’t run certain games, and it was AGP

well i meet all the minimum requirements, but it runs really choppy even with all setting at lowest, and yes i have pixel shader 3. Looks like Ive got to start saving up for a new PC. Never ever would i buy an X-cocks or a pathetic-3.

You’re right, it is cheaper to buy an Xbox 360 than buy a computer. It’s cheaper in the same way that if you just pull out all your own teeth you never have to pay the dentist to do it for you. Well for all you guys whining bout not having the latest system, well i’ve had a P4 with Geforce 4 Ti4200 since 2002 and only could afford to upgrade last year!
Whining about not playing the latest game is small change to the fact that pretty much for one and half years i’ve had to pass on new games or play them with very low detail. Ahh well, that’s what happens when you try and raise a family, old childhood priorities take a backseat! Cheers!

Junk. Nifty graphics, but lousy gameplay. Again, devs concentrated on the looks but not the feels. This is a pass for me, since I’m more into sims, not arcades like Colin series. Shame, too.

The reason why alot of games are using Shader 3.0 is because it is standard in the xbox 360. Ubi-soft are one of the companies who do not like to downgrade there games. Examples are Splinter Cell Double Agent and Rainbow Six Vegas. More and more are using shader 3 including Dirt and soon to be released Lost Planet by Capcom. This reminds me of the days of the 3DFX – for Quake II etc…
One exception was Silent Hunter 4 probably because it was such a specialist game in the first place. It uses Shader 2.0 Then again, it is bugged to high heaven and not worth playing at the moment. Just my thoughts..

This isn’t really as much next-gen and performance-demanding as an unoptimized pile of shit.
I have an Athlon 64 3700+, 2GB RAM, 7600GT, and I only got it to wok on a playable framerate after turning the settings to low in the Demo. That is 640×480 as a resolution, and everything else as low as it could go.
And you could go on about how my rig is old. But I’m not the only one saying it. Even people with uber-1337 rigs are only able to go up as far as 1024×768 and get it to play well.
Lousy, lousy X360 port. I’ve seriously played games that looked just as great, and run hell-of-a-lot better.

Well I have tried it with every graphic option maxed and at 1280×1024 game runs like butter, no slow downs no glitches.

Ok it works now. I turned off Securom and Safedisc Intelligent cloaking, and only did “SafeDisc 4.x Cloaking.

Yep it seems I said it too early.
It does work sometimes, but doesn’t some other times it’s pretty wierd.
Anyway I tried it and it ran really bad on high settings, when I had to restart after I put it lower it wouldn’t work anymore.
It’s stupid though that it runs so badly, because specs are way better then the xbox360. (I’ve got slightly better then recommended).
Well I have always had luck with ASUS far as Vista goes its known not to run to optimal with stuff that runs native for XP, which is why i never went the vista route, oh i expect to in a year or so but why now? for a pretty GUI? and a few vista only titles the rest is headaches.
Yes the game will only work sometimes I tried it and it worked with YASU and without YASU, however this is not my type of game which GTR2 is but its a damn good Rally game.

I hope you aren’t saying that C64 & Amiga sucks/sucked? I had a blast with those computers and the games. The graphics might not have been the best in some games but the gameplay and original ideas for games made up for it.

PPl still dont realize how powerful a 8800 card is, esp if you dont have one. This this is at least as Twice as powerful as 79 cards. And thats without DX 10. So if a app says you need a 8800 card than theres no way you gonna play it with a 79 card at the same level. if at all.
I still have my 7 series card but after seeing what a 8800 can do its like a 7 series card in SLI mode.
And the image quality is quite better on a 8800. btw I have this game running at full graphics everything pinned and im getting like 40FPS to 60FPS with this 8800 card. have a nice day.
Too bad the 8800 series have problems with so many games thanks to crap drivers. By the time these are sorted out, the 9800’s will be out, and by then there may actually be more than a couple of games that use directx 10. I tend to always skip a generation, by the time that games come out that really I can’t play with my 7900GT, I can skip straight to the 9800’s which will probably be double the speed of the 8800’s. Not having a great monitor, I don’t need to play at 2600 x 1800 or whatever, so there really is no point for the extra horsepower yet. Never understood the fanatics that spend so much each year just to get extra FPS from a game when really, you don’t notice for the most part anyway.

Without digging down to the core of protection technology: The only purpose of YASU tool is hiding your virtual CD/DVD drives from detecting by StarForce. As result – StarSorce accepts virtual drive as real one and allows to start the game. In case your virtual drives aint hidden – you will always get “Wrong disk inserted” protection error.

I passed the protection, i’ve put the image on my ext.HDD en mount the image. Worked for me so maybe a solution for others to do.
Btw runs smooth on my conroe6600, 8800GTX , 1680×1050 with everything on max.

the very latest version of YASU which is Y.A.S.U v1.2.7060. It was only released on the 12th of this month try gameburnworld or gamecopyworld.

I think my 79GT will run the full game better then the demo.
because i used to get near 20fps @ low shadows, no aa and everything else max at 1280×960.
Then the demo stuffed itself and i found myself getting 8-10fps with the exact same settings, stupid buggy demo ! :@

Seriously, this took a lot of playing around but I discovered that if you just have the disc image on the same drive as the game, it tends to work (Daemon tools with Securom selected, probably YASU with the same). I copied the image into the game directory, though that shouldn’t make a difference.
Whilst it looked good for the three seconds I played before crying myself to sleep, it’s not as revolutionary as CMR2.0 was.
(7950 GT, Maximum settings at 1440×900 for people looking for spec compare.)

Worked fine for me without yasu, just the latest Daemon 4.09HE with all emulation options on (I have to make sure there is no CD/DVD in my physical drive). I mounted game using the .mds file, if that makes a difference. Just dl’d and updated to 1.1, that worked fine as well.
Running on e6300 @ 2.0Ghz, 2 GB ram, 7800GT (slightly overclocked) on an Asrock 775Dual-VSTA board. 1360×768 (native res of monitor) and most options turned to low or medium I average 35-45 fps (max is 50-60, min is 15-20). Runs a bit better than the demo.
I also tried the demo on an A64 X2 4400+, same ram as mine, running a 7900GTX, and it ran bad (10-15 fps on the buggy race). Gonna try this version and see if it’s any better.
You know, it actually allows you to go online with it… multiplayer works, not sure if it’s a good idea though…
Somehow it now stopped working for me, after playing two days the starforce crap seems to kick in lol. Probably just needs a reboot..

load the small file (mds i think)
activate only securom
then start yasu and i activate only the first one
then load the game from the virtual disc
What am i doing wrong?

Go to device manager and disable the IDE channel for your cd/dvd drives

indeed the game is a bitch top run on vista 64 i still havent managed to do it yet and im a bit of a computer savvy ive tried everything and the conclusion ive come too is vista 64 and starforce, some people are lucky and maange to get it to work on vista 64 but its rare i think most of the people that have managed to get it to work are on either xp 32 (and 64) and vista 32 and rare cases on vista 64 im one of the ones that it wont work on vista 64

Well Codemasters have released a 1.1 patch.
I am going to wait until there is a NO-CD for this game and all the performace issues are fixed.
As for the rest of you who are having issues, i suggest you try different images mounted with the latest Daemon Tools/YASU.
I will download this game when there is a Crack/NOCD or protection remover.
Ill tell you guys if there is a NO-CD or workaround as soon as.

ut2k4wikichici , i couldnt open DIRT demo with my system xp2800+ 2gig x1600pro . i read that DIRT only works with SSE2+ set CPUs. Thats why i am asking if any xp2600+,2800+ users able to play DIRT. dont think 79gt can handle max setting at game. 8800gts gives 25 30 fps at max options… think
Download MDS file (cmrdirt.mds or colin mcrae dirt.mds, nevermind) with emule (emule – program), Rename your .mds file in your .mdf file (if your .mdf file named cmrdirt.mdf then you need to rename your mds file like cmrdirt.mds), mount your renamed .mds file in Daemon toolse 4.09, play. so I am gonna write you what i ve done:
I ve tried everything, I read all torrent sites with instructions how make it, but nothing helps me
1. Start download Dirt torrent
2. Download and install SPTDinst-v149-x86
3. Then I download and install Deamon Tools manager V4.09HE
4. Install the game by deamon tools and install the patch 1.1
5. I ve turn all options off (red deamon icon) and unmount all images(i got only one drive)
6. Then I restart PC
7. I start deamon tools and turn all options on (green deamon icon)
8. Then I mount my .mds file ( I tried my orig .mds file 70 KB and 40 KB mds too. I also rename it on same name DIRT.mdf and DIRT.mds)
9. I go on image and run autorun and push the button “play”
10. I tried it for one, two, three and more times but it still made me error: Attempt of using emulation software has been detected…
If I do something wrong please help me, thx
P.S. I renamed .mdf and .mds before the installation of the game…
Try using Yasu, last version and try to switch all emulations by on to off for couple of times. My mds – 71.8kb. All options on in DT. I can run game without yasu actually, well, i can run game with 2 try. My mdf file from this torrent relise. Works fine.
Well, the source of the game does not really matter running the game. I tried the same MDF file with a couple of different systems and one is working while the other isn’t. Exactly same DT configuration! I tried alcohol 120%, yasu, sd4hide and all different program but I haven’t been able to run it on the first computer.

I have the genuine version, and i can’t run it. Comes up saying i’m using emulation sfotware. disable emulation software, insert the original and press retry.
Havnt got around it yet. should have just got a copy.

Got it working with modest settings on my 3000+ 6600GT rig.
No Yasu, sd4hide or anything. Just updated daemon tools.
Didn’t work at first, had the protection software check the disc again and it worked and has worked ever since.
Well, my 8800 GTX 768 MB 600 Mhz card with my quad core processor can chew through this easily. Now I just need to get the game working…Stupid Russians! YASU and Daemon Tools dont do sh*t…

i need help, i got through the disc checking part, but then i got an error with DIRT.exe. im using the latest version of DT.
Noob and mxd-52 and any others that have having trouble aftre disc check goes through.
Get the latest 1.1 patch.
It fixes most of those issues.
OK I figured out what the issue mainly is for you people having probloms with the Disk check. Iv done everything, But what finaly got it to work was.#1. installed game with deamon tools all options on. ON a TOTALY DIFFRENT DRIVE. then the IMAGE. not just partition, TOTALY diffrent. For some of thoes who dont have that ability, Try a partition. if not. hopefully you can get around that . i used the 40kb MDS name it all DIRT. newest everything and installed them the way the websites ask you to install them. like having all programs closed stuff like that. the main thing was installing the image to a totaly diffrent drive. then it worked perfect. Turn the shadows off. turn all the settings on low. and the multy sampling up. and 800×600. and most any system can run that SMOOTH playable with some graphics.
Okay ill try that.
As for settings ill go 1280×960 high shadows no aa and everything else max.
Then i will tweak accordingly.

It’s def not fake for me, this torrent. Works great! I just had to use latest Daemon tools 4.091 with securom enabled, but your mileage may vary. I was also able to use the latest 1.1 patch – which did help performance a little bit too. Only the rallies are nicely playable for me though. Any track with a few cars still runs like *&^#.
-Install
-install prot drivers
-restart
-mount the smaller file with DAEMON Tools 4.09
-all emulations are OFF (red icon)
-and run…try more than 1 time!

Since i was using a RAID0 setup. I installed XP on a IDE Setup on the same system and it works 110%.
I then installed XP on the same system on a RAID0 setup, and it didnt work.
So it seems to be a RAID issue. At least for me.

I get passed the disk checking, but then when i get the grey loading logo on center of my desktop saying “colin mcrae DIRT”, windows displays an error message saying the program stopped running…

I’ve read lots online about getting this to work and have seen no serial numbers. Everybody who has it working has it working via DT.

yeah you can, you don’t need to reinstall, you just need to make sure you have the latest DT and SPTD installed, then mount your image and play, I didn’t need yasa.
Just make sure there has been a reboot after installing the games protection drivers (it tells you it needs to install them to run the game the first time you try and run it if you remember).
It is the SPTD that is important, there is a version that comes with DT but it is not the latest version.
I mounted the image and installed, then I tried everything I could but it wouldn’t work, then I did the following :
I removed DT from my machine, then I installed SPTD, then DT, then mounted the image, then ran the game.
I didn’t reinstall the game inbetween any of the steps.

and it say emulation software detected ive read that Microsoft and starforce have partnered up
so for the people that have xp sp2 and go it working have you kept up with the Microsoft updates or not i think for us that is the problem the automatic updates have spy programs that check for vitural drive programs and such so id bet that after a fresh install of xp sp2 and no updates it will work cauz it makes no sense that it works for some and doesn’t for others if this works we should try the micrsoft updates and narrow down wich one it is probity the gdi detection or genuine advantage up date

@ Stalk3r : I’ve already tried to use this crack from eMule. The archive (Colin McRae Dirt NOCD NODVD Crack.rar) is composed of a 9.38 mb .exe named “DiRT”. It seemed to be a real crack but when I extracted it in the game directory, Kaspersky detected it as a virus or a trojan, I don’t remember. Too bad…
I think we just have to wait for a real crack from a well-kwown group to make sure that’s not sh*t.
I downloaded almost all the cracks available on eMule but they were all fakes.

I factory restored my computer no up dates just what it came with downloaded all video and sound drivers dt and sptd did everything correctly and still says emulation software detected so it has nothing to do with any microsoft up dates prehaps a conflict cd burning softwere has anybody got this working by unpluging the ide cables for cd/dvd drives also is it nessary to use yasu some say yes some say no and if its on emule and not burn/copy world duhh
And you install a 1.1 patch? well be careful if you install patches to protected games i did that with command and conquer and couldnt get passed protection,not sure it thats in a lot of games so i rarely install the patches i hope you guys got this game running after i left my help for you .

GUYS!! im certain now, its a RAID harddrive setup issue, basically doesnt work if your HDD is setup with RAID0.
Works on normal IDE HDD setup.
Ive tested it a few times on the same system between the 2 setups.

I think Grimreeaper is right. I have a RAID0 setup and can’t get the game to launch at all. Seen a few people in other forums with RAID setups who can’t launch it either.
I’ve also got a RAID setup and not having any luck.
OK, I have no installed this game on 3 PCs and they all work.
All that I did on the other computers was removed DT, Install SPTD (latest version), reinstall DT (latest version), mount image, install game, install protection drivers, reboot PC, play game.
All PCs are xp pro sp2, two of them have no updates from MS, one of them is fully updated, non of these computers are running a raid.
Hope it helps somebody work a way through.

Hi Still cant get past the “wrong disk inserted” message. Most forum sites claim that a mini disk image will do the trick but every *.mds file i download wont mount in deamon tools. Updating deamon tools did not work for me. Any new ideas will be happly exepted. Tony thankyou for trying.

For those who are waiting a crack for this game i can tell you there isnt going to be a crack becouse all starforce games dont have cracks (only starforce 1 and 2 maybe have cracks) I was waiting 1 year for a crack to come out for 2 of my games with starforce but they didnt. And why are there many ways to make this game work and they dont work.
Thats a shame SF cant be cracked.
Hopefully a program will come out that will allow the CLONE to work for more people.

After one week of tests and failures, I finally managed to launch the game.
I had downloaded the TensionTorrent.com version (the very first one uploaded on Mininova.org) which seems to be a CLONE version because it’s also 4.73 Go, in spite of the fact that the word “CLONE” isn’t included in the title of the torrent.
Consequently I tested all the methods quoted in the previous comments and also other tricks : nothing worked…
Here’s the method I used. This latter worked perfectly for me, and should be 100% ok for everybody according to the NFO of the release :
1. Uninstall completely DiRT, Daemon Tools and SPTD.
2. Download the PROPER version of iTWINS here: http:// http://www.mininova.org/tor/755197 (also available on rlslog.net).
3. Install SPTD v1.49.
4. Reboot your computer.
5. Install Daemon Tools 4.0.9HE.
6. Turn SecuRom option “ON” in Daemon Tools > Emulation.
7. Mount the MDS (be carefull to put the MDF and the MDS in the same directory) with Daemon Tools.
8. Install DiRT.
9. Play DiRT.
The CLONE release has apparently many problems with the emulation of the protection (StarForce).
Just take a loot at the NFO of the PROPER/iTWINS release :

I still have a problem with my mini disk image. Deamon tools wont mount any mini disk I download. Still have problems with emulation and copy protection. hope you guys have advice. Toutatis i have tried your way still no luck. Maby I have the wrong Mds file. I have vista + deamon 4.09 installed.
I was also totally frustrated because DIRT would not run, but I read that the game is only compatible with CPU’s with SSE2. I have an old athlon xp 2000+, so thats the reason the game crashes while loading. No crack will fix this…..very sad

The images look great, but are they the same in game?
A good example of images vs ingame is : You are Empty
Images looked jaw dropping and in game looked like a Quake 3.
BUT Still the game had a spooky effect which kept me going on.

So this should go well too.
The 8800 Ultra is good in DX-9 games under XP but CRAP under
ViSTA and a DX-9 game, CRAP with a DX-10 game too.
So for now I have a GOOD DX-9 VC and when the second gen of
DX-10 cards will be out, then I’ll upgrade, now, no point in

myst, your problem is that you haven’t patched yet the game to the ver 1.1. So you need to do that and than apply the crack. The missing files you need to do that can be found here:

So… if I got all this right, then I can’t get the Dirt running no matter what…?!?! Namely, I’ve got the Athlon 1900+ , Ati Radeon 8500 and 512 MB of RAM…
Am I right or is there any chance for me to play the Dirt other than getting a new computer…?!
When your CPU lacks SSE2, you can’t play the game….This is the problem with Athlon XP cpu’s…..rediculous.

i run game with sempron754 2800+@2.2ghz and 6600gt agp@540-1150and works fine.yeah minimum everything exept…res 800×600,hdr on{tried hdr tool and gained nothing without hdr}multisampling4x{i guess its fsaa}.i had problem with file corrupt error on saves but all i had to do is to enable onboard lan.thanks to dr crack.proc works @2.4 but temp in belgrade is about 40c so after few restarts i had to drop it down.my friend have barton and nv5700…i will try.my 1yr old daughter leak all money but i will consider about used 939 athlon and 7900gs or 8600gts.maybe imagination.greet all

but they run at a good frame rate, Dirt just stutters under any settings???????
ok im new to DT so i dont know what the mount image thing means. help? i downloaded everything right…i think. i have DT with the latest SPTD. and i would really like to be able to play DiRT so what is the mount image thing?
Anyone still having problems and blaiming RAID sorry to say its not RAID because I use RAID 0 setup and it works fine.
Anyone getting corrupt saves, most people have the problem because their net connection isn’t on or have blocked the game for net access, not sure why its like this.
