Cloverfield DVDRip XviD AC3 iNT-DEViSE

A lot of you have complained about the low quality of the DiAMOND DVDRip of this movie, but thanks to DEViSE we now have the internal release. There has been a lot of talk about an HD version coming up, and to tell you the truth I have no clue whether there will be one, but this is the best we have now (except for the DVDR).

Quality: Since this movie is rather short the bitrate on this one is a whopping 1970kbps with a res of 720×416 :D AC3 5.1 audio is included as always, and although there aren’t any subs, use the ones from the DiAMOND release.

Cloverfield follows five New Yorkers from the perspective of hand held video camera. The movie is exactly the length of a DV Tape and a sub-plot is established by showing bits and pieces of video previously recorded on the tape that is being recorded over. The movie starts as a monster of unknown origin destroys a building. As they go to investigate, parts of the building and the head of the Statue of Liberty come raining down. The movie follows their adventure trying to escape and save a friend, a love interest of the main character.

    What was wrong with the quality? I thought it was fine. I think the movie was intended to look the way it does because it was filmed using a home camera.

    I’m so glad I waited to download this movie! The DiAMOND DVDRip gave it no justice with such crappy quality!

  9. April 5th, 2008 | 04:06

    @7

    LOL? First off the movie was filmed with pro equipment but they just made it seem like it wasn’t as the quality would be crap if it was an actual hand cam. Second of all I was talking about the quality of the release which DiAMOND kind of messed up.

    Darn I have just finished watching the Diamond rip right now, and then I see this nice release with AC3 sound, noooo :(

    Yes the Diamond was fine, but guys video is not all, sound is allmost 50% of a movie. But I dont think I wanna download this just to see it again with AC3, one time was enough, still a little dizzy from that shaking hand held camera lol :lol:

  34. Tom
    April 5th, 2008 | 04:56

    The Diamond was nice video quality, but I agree it should have been a 2 CD Rip with AC3.

    Quality was excellent. I watched it this morning. My first view of this flick was as a decent cam and it was like watching an entirely new movie. For the people who compare this movie to Blair Witch…..why? Because a Digital Camera was the primary footage? Isn’t that like 80% of low budget horror flicks anyway? Stop complaining and ruining it for others. Your mothers raised you better…..I hope!
    Once again, thanks for a great release.
    Video quality: 10 out of 10
    Sound quality: 8 out of 10
    Movie rating: 7.5 out of 10 (could have been more focused on the creature), but in a world lacking of good Monster Movies, I’ll take what I can get.
    If you enjoyed this movie, check out the Korean moster flick called “The Host”. ANother excellent moster movie and in some ways much better than Cloverfield.

    I didn’t expect much from this movie (I waited 3 years to see Blair Witch.. should have waited forever.).. but I was pleasantly surprised.. awesome.

    Wow…this is positively the worst movie I have seen since Wrong Turn…

    Creativity: 1.5 (yeah…its a movie…)
    Originality: 0 (um…already done before?!)
    Plot: 0 (what was the freakin point?!)
    Ending: -7 (that is actually a generous score…)

    Overall: Sht…

    I cant believe people actually paid to see this movie…Oh, and dont worry about the quality. That is the least of this film’s worry…In my opinion, the only way that DiAMOND could have done this movie any justice is by not releasing it…

    After the helicopter crash, about one hour into the movie, you can see a shot from the classic King Kong movie for about 0.2 seconds. Thought it was pretty funny that they chosed to put it in there.

    Exact time for this little easter egg is 1 hour 6 minutes and 55 seconds.

    There isn’t a minimum number of minutes it has to be considered 2 CD. It is the rippers choice. But both CD’s have to be filled at least 680 out of 700 MB on each CD. If the ripper can pull it off, then he can choose whether its 1 CD or 2 CD.

    I just finished watching Cloverfield.DVDR.REPLICA and I must say it was very well done. REPLICA did a great job, it looked superb on my 32″ HDTV (for a DVD that is.) I would advise against waisting time with this (DEViSE) release, because the DVDR is great and a better move considering the quality difference. I am a film maker myself (ironic I know) and have seen A LOT of movies that try to imitate the style of filming that this film uses (aka guerilla), although I can’t vouch as to whether or not a STEADYCAM was used during the film…;) Anyways I have to say that this movie was an amazing work of art and I plan on buying the BLU-RAY when it is released in stores. I highly recommend this movie….along with the implementation of REPLICAS’S DVDR :)

    This is a great movie and I can’t wait to see the real DVD release with the alternate endings. Most people don’t seem to understand that this is not a normal movie that explains everything. It’s just 88 min of part of a disaster that was filmed by people not knowing what was really happening to them. I don’t get why people can’t understand that and keep complaining about shaky camera work and a weird ending and no explanations. That’s life! The picture is supposed to be clear because it was filmed with a Sony HD camera and made to look like it was a small cam. When you see the monster and the other things happening through the cam eye they look like they are really happening…at least to me they did and I found the movie very thrilling and frightening. Don’t look for explanations, just enjoy it for what it is…

    Giving praise to these re-encode groups just shows how little you people know and makes you look stupid. Yes RLSLOG that includes you. These iNT re-encode groups usually steal a scene xvid release that pred before it, rush to re-encode it, then add their crap to a pre-bot and post internal dupes to some lame ftp or torrent site shortly after.

    If the original scene xvid release didn’t have ac3, then the int doesn’t have true AC3 source either. It’s only been transcoded from stereo vbr mp3 to AC3. It’s not real AC3.

    Also for the morons that praise Replica and shun Diamond, wake up call they’re the same family.

  93. Sample?
    April 5th, 2008 | 09:04

    Do you think some no no name torrent group is going to have pre-retail sources? Of course not.

    Usually they steal the preceding scene xvid release and re-encode, then add fake AC3. Sometimes these lame int xvid groups will wait until the scene DVDR is released (which has usually seen compression with CCE)and then re-encode that, but usually not.

    Regardless, they’re taking credit off of someone else’s work without developing their own sources.

    The only way I could be considered a dumbass is wasting time trying to explain information to people who have no desire or care to realize what they are talking about.

    @66 Cody,
    It’s not really an easter egg. I just thought I saw someone with their arm stuck out when I was doing something while watching the helicopter crash out of the corner of my eye. At first I thought it was a cut of an army guy telling them to get back. Then I rewound and paused and screenshot it then posted it on photobucket. Someone mentioned they had some filmed scences of coney island that this was being taped over. My question is , Is there a poster of King Kong like that at coney island? Then it would make sense. But if not then it’s J.J Abrams just mind-phukin with the viewers again with “Look at my big-bad monster movie! It’s better than King Kong!”

    i dont usually comment on these sorta arguments but in this very rare case i would like to point out that

    1. diamonds release was fine.i downloaded it, watched it. perfect quality

    2. HOWEVER. since ive invested and own a top of the line dolby digital 5.1 system, having a movie with AC3 sound (along with a nice big lcd) is just that extra icing on the cake :P so i will be downloading this release and deleting the other. do i care i already downloaded 700mb? nope. but damm i cant wait to enjoy this movie in total 5.1 immersion!

    So what’s this rumor about the DEViSE rls being an upscaled transcode of the DiAMOND rls? Yeah, for sure, any average encoder can re-encode an XviD at a higher bitrate and resolution (with, of course, no improvement in video quality)… but transcoding stereo sound into 6 channels…? I can’t even believe there’s software available to do that, since it’s basically just faking.

    DIAMOND release was pretty much perfect for a 1CD. But now most people have broadband, home cinema sound, and big screen TVs, I think the majority would always prefer a 2CD.

    It’d be good to see rlslog posting a lot more of the 2CD internals like these two excellent releases from DEVICE.

    Or what about the scene groups uploading one of each so people can just choose the one they prefer. Have never understood why they don’t do that. My understanding is that it wouldn’t be breaking any rules.

    Until then, more internals please! :-)

    And as for 2 cds vs 1 cd.

    1 CD was fine when I had my PC connected upto a standard TV but now that I have my PC connected upto a nice HDTV, the low quality on 1 CD releases is very noticable.

    Especially on films such as this when the majority of the film is dark, it becomes very pixelated.

    @134 hi-jinx

    Yes it is possible, yes they are faking 5.1

    If this release came out after Replica pre, then this lame group would have stole audio from that release. That didn’t happen. So using logical powers of deduction what occurred?

    1. steal scene release
    2. Demux the audio from video
    3. run it through an audio software suite
    4. clone stereo channels
    7. filter
    5. save as AC3
    6. you have fake 5.1
    7. mux with re-encoded video from stolen scene release
    8. package, seed to lame ftp or torrent site, add to public pre channel
    9. watch people on RLSLOG marvel at lame group

    @162 – sample?

    hey dumb#ss. i see you are making up stuff about this release being a reencode of the diamond release. man u are well stupid. the replica DVDR came out about 2 hrs after the diamond dvdrip so this release is more than likely from the replica DVDR source.

    now let me ask u this cuz u seem to be a scene guru with an obvious disdain for any1 involved in the non conforming world of iNTERNAL. wat does it matter if this dvdrip is from the replica DVDR? even if the video and audio are slightly compressed on the replica DVDR, which replica state they are not, wat does it matter?

    i dont know why people get so bent out of shape about it. wat is the difference between encoding a movie from a slightly compressed DVD5 source to a 1.36 GB xvid file than encoding it from an untouched DVD9 source to a 1.36 GB xvid file?

    ANSWER ME THAT SAMPLE?

    in both cases the video has to be compressed to 1.36 GB so wat does it matter if the DVD5 source is already slightly compressed? if anything wouldn’t it just make encoding the movie file to xvid quicker as some of the compression process has already taken place. its not like the DVD5 and DVD9 sources are being compressed the same, as the slightly better quality of the DVD9 source is going to have to be compressed more than the DVD5 source, thus resulting in both xvid files being the same quality.

    i can understand if you want to b#tch about the difference in quality between DVD5 and DVD9 if DVDR’s are what you collect. but i really don’t get why it is an issue whether the source used for an xvid file is a DVD5 or DVD9.

    EXPLAIN SAMPLE? TEACH US YOUR KNOWLEDGE. ENLIGHTEN OUR PATHETIC LIFES.

    You people keep complaing, although some of you seem not to know anything about quality. I downloaded both releases, and:

    1CD – great picture (lower resolution though), decent mp3 sound; great overall as for 1CD
    2CD – better sound (higher bit rate, as usually with Dolby Digital, may sound quieter when stereo output chosen), the picture is only decent – the colours are worse than in 1CD release, very good resolution (the way it always should be, for 2CD releases)

    The choice is yours.
    I enjoyed the film. Regards.

    Abrams also did X-Files. So people were hyping this thing because of his past. People reading into clues that he ws leaving what the monster would look like and if he would of actually show the monster at all because of all the secrets starting in July of last year. JJ is known for screwing with peoples minds with Lost and thats what fueled this beast.

    ultimate warrior – it’s pretty obvious why you don’t transcode from a dvd-5 (thats been transcoded from dvd-9 already) to divx. for anyone but a blindman the quality loss is unacceptable.

    I’d imagine this release is from the REP dvd-r which they claim is untouched video so it’s not an issue (except for the stolen source of course, but I doubt the p2p monkeys in devise care about that).

    The video bitrate of the DMD release was so-so – typical sh-itty divx, but the audio was atrocious; mp3 for an action movie? makes absolutely no sense. I watched the REP DVD-R. The movie was awful but at least the audio and video quality were upto par. =]

    @MelC

    Could you explain why transcoding from a DVD5 to xvid file, which was previously transcoded from a DVD9 (not the whole DVD just the movie; i.e. no special features, no menus etc), is so bad? whether the source is a DVD5 or DVD9 the video is going to have to be compressed down to 1.36 GB. so wat does it matter if the DVD5 source has already been slightly transcoded?

    i am not trying to be annoying but i really don’t get why this is an issue. As I previously stated, it’s not like the DVD5 and DVD9 sources are being compressed the same, as the slightly better quality of the DVD9 source is going to have to be COMPRESSED MORE THAN THE DVD5 source, thus resulting in both xvid files ultimately having the same quality.

    Quality of this release is truly excellent by the way so recommend this over the diamond one, especially for the ac3 sound. Sound is very important in a film like this because most of the time u are listening to stuff going on more than seeing it.

    xcellent film also. I am glad it is pissing off the stereotypical dumb Americans who need the glorified Hollywood ending where the good guys wins, i.e. the American Army.

  202. @205
    April 6th, 2008 | 00:07

    DVD-Video MPEG-2s already have pretty crappy quality to begin with. When you encode a dvd-rip (i.e. “translate” that MPEG-2 with Xvid/Divx/etc), you’re not decreasing the visual quality from, let’s say, 100% to 50%, even though the bitrate does go down. Well-made dvd-rip is a lot like a file archive – when your player reads it, it decompress it on-the-fly and recreates the visual quality of the original DVD. If you, let’s say, compress a 1-hour 4.3gb MPEG-2 into a ~1.5gb Xvid, there will probably not be any quality loss at all. When you go from DVD9 to DVD5, however, you’re not compressing or optimizing the picture. You’re directly cutting on its quality, which will be reflected in the compressed dvd-rip.

    @175 Ultimate Crybaby

    There’s a simple concept which has been lost over the years. You don’t take credit off of other people’s work. This applies to scene and non-scene alike. DEVISE is a lame group who steals sources to gain credit for itself it’s as simple as that. That Axxo p2p idiot is no different.

    Regarding the more technical aspects. If a DVDR was used and had untouched video then obviously there is nothing different between video on the scene DVDR and an actual retail DVD. If video was re-encoded with CCE then depending on the number of passes there will be some negligible loss for a DVDR release.

    Re-encoding to a lower resolution for DVDR to xvid encodes will normally not show many artifacts if sufficient bitrate was used. xvid to xvid re-encodes however, will normally not improve picture quality much even if filters are used. In fact, it can actually worsen PQ to re-encode from xvid to xvid.

    An 85 minute film does not need two cds even if it is an action film. It is sufficiently underneath 110 minutes. Being an action film with lots of movement, if this film was closer to 110 minutes then there would be justification to push for a 2cd release with AC3 audio. That isn’t the case, hence no need for 2cd. There’s your answer and it’s all you’re going to get.

    ultimate warrior – when you go from DVD9 to DVD5 you lose quality, then when you go from DVD5 to xvid you lose even more quality. for most people that’s an unacceptable loss for no reason (as you can go straight from dvd9 to xvid and miss out a step).

    It’s the same as ripping a cd to 320kbit mp3, then transcoding that mp3 to a 96kbit WMA. If 96kbit wma is your ultimate aim then encode straight to that, the resulting quality will be that much higher.

    Two lossy steps are never good.

    user x: I can’t stand hollywood “action hero” movies and I still hated cloverfield. It was like a hollywood movie trying to be an indie film, but failing badly. You say people who don’t like it can only appreciate hollywood movies but I think it’s the opposite – the people who like it are your typical big-budget (little talent/quality) movie fans.

    a shame that some can’t appreciate this movie.. the filming technique is meant to shift the focus away from just being a spectator to actually being a part of the action.

    It’s simply taking the implausible to the hypothetical… what would you do if you found yourself in this situation?

    Much better than watching the typical cliched genre of ‘find monster, send in military, kill monster, live happily ever after’.

    fluffy you mean to tell me this movie is not cliche ? the boy friend tries to find the girl he loves inspite of the odds of survival because he loves her so much. course his friends just couldn’t let him go alone because they’re such good friends so the “group” is formed. which eventually dies off one by one until the 2 main character is left, which no doubt the lame director will continue their stupid ass “love conquerors all” adventure in the sequel. this is not your regular hollywood blockbuster ?

    don’t get me wrong, i like hollywood blockbuster movies. i don’t expect them to have much depth. in fact it’s part of their charm. not too much thinking involved.

    HUD:” dude jason there’s something weird between beth and rob”

    HUD:”oh my god oh my god oh my god….”

    HUD:”whoa did you guys see that “?

    HUD constantly talk to everyone else through his camera.

    GIVE ME A F*** break ?! creative ?????

    the “find monster kill monster” movie you refer to fluffy, IS in fact what cloverfield is. i understand what it’s trying to do, it just doesn’t do it well. badly in fact. i would’ve enjoyed it alot more if it’s a well made hollywood blockbuster, rather than a bad indie wannabe.

    fluffy, i guess what makes it so infuriating for me ( aside from the HUD character ) is that I actually like the concept of the hand-held camera to drop the viewer inside the movie alongside its characters. I think it’s a great idea. It has potential for greatness. But it pisses me off because it doesn’t deliver. Pisses me off even more when people think it succeeded. I’m just mad because other people don’t recognize its failure.

    character’s dialogue and actions don’t feel true. or rather, they’re movie cliches. wouldn’t it be great if Rob reacted like most of us would have in real life and decides it’s too risky and protects himself rather be the typical romantic hero. a whole new world of possiblities opens up if the director’s not afraid to show real human nature.

    also i think it’s director’s responsiblity to imagine for me. the audience shouldn’t be expected to have the task of having to imagine something. if a movie is done right, then the audience automatically relates to it.

    i know, i should get a life. but yeah, your have some valid points. and i’m less mad after reading your post. so thanks.
