Cloverfield TS XViD-OBSESSiON

Group OBSESSiON comes out of the dark scene underground to quickly release the first scene version of the highly anticipated Cloverfield. Most of you know about this monster movie and if you don’t i cant help cause i don’t either all i know is people have asking for it left right and centre. The Release is a Telesync meaning that it has been recorded with a handheld camera at the cinema so its not great quality, but is what most would call “watchable”. Although it has got dupe frames so it will seem like the image is running a little slow. Audio is better and comes from a direct source so although far from perfect it will do the job just fine. If you cant wait for anything better leech, unrar, smoke up, watch and enjoy! Have a look at the NFO as well, its quite a good one.

Synopsis: Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives.

Does anyone else find it ironic that we have here a TS of a movie that’s been shot with a handheld camera in the first place???

“The Release is a Telesync meaning that it has been recorded with a handheld camera at the cinema so its not great quality”. Please at least give the full info and comment on the quality of the specific release. Just because it is recorded with a cam does not mean poor quality. The TS (telesync) means direct sound. For those who do not know, here are the basics about the source of the releases.

    Sources

    CAM -
A cam is a theater rip usually done with a digital video camera. A mini tripod is sometimes used, but a lot of the time this wont be possible, so the camera make shake. Also seating placement isn’t always idle, and it might be filmed from an angle. If cropped properly, this is hard to tell unless there’s text on the screen, but a lot of times these are left with triangular borders on the top and bottom of the screen. Sound is taken from the onboard microphone of the camera, and especially in comedies, laughter can often be heard during the film. Due to these factors picture and sound quality are usually quite poor, but sometimes we’re lucky, and the theater will be fairly empty and a fairly clear signal will be heard.

    TELESYNC (TS) –
A telesync is the same spec as a CAM except it uses an external audio source (most likely an audio jack in the chair for hard of hearing people). A direct audio source does not ensure a good quality audio source, as a lot of background noise can interfere. A lot of the times a telesync is filmed in an empty cinema or from the projection booth with a professional camera, giving a better picture quality. Quality ranges drastically, check the sample before downloading the full release. A high percentage of Telesyncs are CAMs that have been mislabeled.

    TELECINE (TC) -
A telecine machine copies the film digitally from the reels. Sound and picture should be very good, but due to the equipment involved and cost telecines are fairly uncommon. Generally the film will be in correct aspect ratio, although 4:3 telecines have existed. A great example is the JURASSIC PARK 3 TC done last year. TC should not be confused with TimeCode , which is a visible counter on screen throughout the film.

    SCREENER (SCR) -
A pre VHS tape, sent to rental stores, and various other places for promotional use. A screener is supplied on a VHS tape, and is usually in a 4:3 (full screen) a/r, although letterboxed screeners are sometimes found. The main draw back is a “ticker” (a message that scrolls past at the bottom of the screen, with the copyright and anti-copy telephone number). Also, if the tape contains any serial numbers, or any other markings that could lead to the source of the tape, these will have to be blocked, usually with a black mark over the section. This is sometimes only for a few seconds, but unfortunately on some copies this will last for the entire film, and some can be quite big. Depending on the equipment used, screener quality can range from excellent if done from a MASTER copy, to very poor if done on an old VHS recorder thru poor capture equipment on a copied tape. Most screeners are transferred to VCD, but a few attempts at SVCD have occurred, some looking better than others.

    DVD-SCREENER (DVDscr) -
Same premise as a screener, but transferred off a DVD. Usually letterbox , but without the extras that a DVD retail would contain. The ticker is not usually in the black bars, and will disrupt the viewing. If the ripper has any skill, a DVDscr should be very good. Usually transferred to SVCD or DivX/XviD.

    DVDRip -
A copy of the final released DVD. If possible this is released PRE retail (for example, Star Wars episode 2) again, should be excellent quality. DVDrips are released in SVCD and DivX/XviD.

    VHSRip -
Transferred off a retail VHS, mainly skating/sports videos and XXX releases.

    TVRip -
TV episode that is either from Network (capped using digital cable/satellite boxes are preferable) or PRE-AIR from satellite feeds sending the program around to networks a few days earlier (do not contain “dogs” but sometimes have flickers etc) Some programs such as WWF Raw Is War contain extra parts, and the “dark matches” and camera/commentary tests are included on the rips. PDTV is capped from a digital TV PCI card, generally giving the best results, and groups tend to release in SVCD for these. VCD/SVCD/DivX/XviD rips are all supported by the TV scene.

    WORKPRINT (WP) -
A workprint is a copy of the film that has not been finished. It can be missing scenes, music, and quality can range from excellent to very poor. Some WPs are very different from the final print (Men In Black is missing all the aliens, and has actors in their places) and others can contain extra scenes (Jay and Silent Bob) . WPs can be nice additions to the collection once a good quality final has been obtained.

Hope this is helpful for some.

I like cheese and most flavors of pudding. Sometimes it is nice to go for a long swim. Tom Hamilton is the voice of the Indians. For my money, there just is not enough choice in pizzerias in this town. When you drink juice, it makes you pee. Walt Disney once told me,”stop picking at it.” I operate a small chain of chimney sweep shops outside of Derby.

And I use the term “cam” loosely as to not spark another Telecine version Cam session. What it boils down to is that it is re-recorded.

    January 24th, 2008 | 05:11

Saw this at the theater and it was awesome, but some of you are confused as to what the quality is supposed to look like. It’s supposed to be filmed by a camcorder, but it is crystal clear in the theater. It just has a lot of shaking effects as the person holding the cam was running or attacked. This seems to have bothered a lot of people especially if they sat close to the screen. I wasn’t affected by it because I sat farther back. The pic is not supposed to be blurry or bad as the samples show. I would wait for a better copy so the great special effects can be appreciated.

    Cloverfield Ending Credits – Spoilers
    Cloverfield Ending Credits – Spoilers
    Cloverfield Ending Credits – Spoilers

    *Spoilers*

At the credits ending of Cloverfield, *spoilers* the audio from the video cam says, “Help us!”. But when played backwards, it says, “It’s still alive!” This happens after the end credits of Cloverfield. Assuming the speaker was Rob, he suggests Cloverfield (the monster) is still alive. This also suggests a sequel for Cloverfield 2! *Spoilers*

The Japanese oil company TAGRUATO drops a satellite (Chimpanz III) into the ocean as part of viral marketing (shown at the end of the movie when Rob and Beth were on the ferris wheel). TAGRUATO works with SLUSHO (a slush company), as the main ingredient for SLUSHO is found at the satellite dropzone (deep ocean). While searching for satellite and ingredients, they woke Cloverfield (the monster).

People who were at the party in the beginning of the movie, were seen wearing SLUSHO shirts. Rob apparently was going to be the Vice President of TAGRUATO in Japan.

The main ingredient of Slusho apparently turns a tiny fish into a HUGE whale in Ganu’s (he found the nectar) dream, which explains the size of Cloverfield. *Update* The main ingredient is a deep sea nectar.

*Update* Because the ingredient was discovered on the deep ocean floor, under amazing pressure and in the most extreme cold, Ganu knew he had to serve the ingredient in a near frozen state to preserve its freshness. Thus the idea of Slush (Slusho)!

For animals/fishes/insects to survive in the deepest ocean (very high boiling temperature), they naturally have very high heat resistance. This explains how Cloverfield is able to withstand numerous bombs and attacks from the army.

Cloverfield refers to the field formerly known as Central Park. Clovers are usually prone to grow at places after bombing. Thus the term “Clover” and “field” referring to park.

*Update* Slusho is a very addictive drink, with signs of steroid drug like effects. Makes people stronger, constantly happy, have happy dreams and finally… “SLUSHO makes my stomach explode with happy!!” (Remember Marlena’s stomach?)

I personally loved this movie. For monster movies its original since not many that I can think of give such an intimate view of the diaster. Most monster movies (Godzilla, King Kong, Jurassic park) give such broad views that (atleast for me) you dont feel unsafe ever… This movie makes you feel unsafe and just as confused and scared as REAL people would probably be in a disaster situation.

Cloverfield is just a 75 min trailer. The whole thing feels like it was designed to get people excited so they’d buy cinema tickets, to me it doesn’t feel like anyone intended to write an actual story. I think it was designed from day one as a way to take money from people while giving them as little in return as possible – good business and no doubt they’re all rich (kudos)…but a lousy film, they’re artistically poor, lol.

STOP saying that this movie was shot with a handheld camera. IT WASNT!!..

You got to be a stupid porn chop if you think the quality of this movie matches the quality of your average home video camera. Just because this movie was shot with a professional camera man holding the camera it doesnt mean that they used a rehular 400 dollar camera..

People need to shut up and enjoy the fact that a great movie was made using an outside of the norm technique.

And stop complaining about not seeing the monster. THEY SHOW THE MONSTER A LOT.. WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT. WHAT ELSE SHOULD THE MONSTER HAD DONE?? DID YOU EXPECT IT TO TALK?? YALL SOUND LIKE NOOBS!!! crying about seeing a monster more.. they showed the monster plenty of times from every angle and very very very very close up…

this movie was a love story / sci fi / thriller. i give it a 9.9 out of 10..

  50. wickido
    January 24th, 2008 | 15:26

Oh boy… Oh BOY! I’ve been really eager to watch this since last year. The whole idea of a new Godzilla, I mean, the first movie was pretty okay, and then they kept on feeding us with these teaser footage and trailers. I mean, come on, this is probably the best movie in months! :D

    Borat style joke…. NOT!
So, with all my hopes up, I went watching it. Nothing happens for the first 18 minutes, it’s much like one of your own home videos of some going-away-party, nothing special. Then there starts happening stuff. But wait, most of the time the camera is pointing to the floor or making movies to make you pretty sick. The only part which is cool is when the monster’s (human sized spiderlike) parasites attacks em. The monster itself only covers roughly 5 minutes on-screen action and not even in full glory. The ending is also lame. While the so called story is still going they get nuked by bombs rather then eaten by the monster. Thats why it only runs a poor 73 mins.

Altogether? Big dissapointment. Besides, releasing a Double CAM(TS) doesn’t help either. You perhaps don’t want to watch it, but ofcourse, you must make up your own mind about that. For me it’s a big whopping NO! ;)

    @ Dan (#125)
Er… actually, it seems you’re the one not knowing what he’s talking about. Theres a difference between TS en TC, namely that the ‘S’ is a ‘C’ in the other one (yes, it took me days to figure that one too). So… what you’re saying is: “A Telesync is not a cam, it’s a release that’s been captured using a Telecine machine”. You should have done better homework. TC is TeleCine, therefor indeed captured using the TeleCine method. This release (a TS) TeleSync however is in fact a CAM, but it differs from a CAM because it is not using the CAM Audio, but audio ripped from an external source. This quality doesn’t have any coughing, laughing and crying babies on it. It’s much like the audo you’d find on a R5 release, since that one usually is in a foreign language (other than english) and has a LINE Audio in english put underneath. ;)

Wait for a good rip. A lot of people who went to see it didn’t know ahead of time what the concept was so they were expecting a straight forward monster flick which this is not. For those prepared this is an awesome movie, one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. I can’t wait to see it again because there is so much too see. It’s not about the monster, it’s about a group of people thrown into a situation where they don’t know what is happening and they are trying to save themselves. That’s the point of the movie, it’s not about the origins of the monster or a happy ending with all the loose ends tied up. It’s just about a going away party where all hell breaks loose and you only see as much as the group sees.

People expecting Aliens will hate it….

  61. Hunta1
    January 25th, 2008 | 01:15

Are you people for real? Motion sickness because of a moving camera? Jesus Christ, I’d hate to take a road trip with any of the people complaining… At this point, after all the viral marketing, reviews in the media and trailers on TV, anyone who goes into this movie NOT knowing it is shot from a handheld camera point of view DESERVES to get sick. I saw this movie the day it came out, not a single person in the theater walked out or got sick or verbally objected in any way, shape, or form.

Motion is a part of life. Get over it you pretentious film snobs and enjoy a refreshingly intimate and realistic piece of cinematic gold.

  66. QUALITY SUCKS

DON’T BOTHER…it’s not “watchable” because it’s told from the perspective of an actor’s video camera and because it’s at night (therefore dark) with a dark video cam taping the movie.

It IS a great movie, but don’t ruin it for yourself/yourselves by downloading this POS.

Not a bad movie minus the fact it was all recorded on camera. Would’ve been better if they did a variation of cam record and real filming. I do give it a plus on realism in terms of sfx, and fear :)

Much better than Blair Witch for sure. Atleast this movie didn’t make me wanna puke.

Over all, this a good movie, but if you suffer from motion sickness, then you would be best to stay away from watching it on the big screen.

It would have been a better movie if the monster had more than a cameo. I wouldn’t recommend this flick to anyone!

one of the best films i’ve ever seen, and definitely better then the “family cheese” monster movies the yanks bring out normally. like godzilla

every giant monster movie has made me feel embarassed to watch it, either cheesie one liners, cliches, stupid characters, or worse acting…

this film was pro, before i’d watched this my favourite had to have been the asian one, with that thing that lives in the river, but it was a cheeseball comedy aswel as a monster movie, so it got let down big time…

chances are if you didn’t like this film, you prolly liked alot of boring films, like atonement or american gangster.

Telesync is not a handheld camera. Your misinformed! Telesync is when special equipment is conected to the audio and projector and produce a somewhat ok quality. If you have HD equipment you can have really good quality such as “Passion of Christ TS” Amazing quality. Please do your homework.

Real Telesyncs are hard to make with more policing of theaters and lawas governing them. also Each reel has a special code that appears at a special time. To elimnate that code is very difficult with a direct input record. but with a cam (Cell phone cam or video camera) The quality is pretty bad and who are they going to go after? some day they will sell tickets and seat locations. you must sit at the seat or you can be wrongly accused of taping a movie. lol

oops I just read something and I mispeled the proper form of recoding. my apologies it is TC not TS that I was refering too. and yes they are hard to come by without the right equipment. But they can still trace you with their watermarks.

What idiot said it is safer to download via Rapidshare than torrent sites?. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact it’s probably easier to hide yourself from the authorities with torrents than rapidshare. Use extra programs such as privoxy and peerguardian, and keep them updated. Use torrent sites that do not store IP addresses of those searching (such as newtorrents, piratebay etc. these sites lose IP address information when the servers are shut down). If you’re especially paranoid use proxy servers for searching the torrent sites, or use TOR Proxy to route via the TOR network without having to install a TOR client.

With Rapidshare, you hand over your credit card information for an account, which leads to your name and address being on their files, information on your downloads are on their servers too. Not exactly difficult for the authorities to trace you is it?. They don’t even need to trace your IP address if they have access to your credit card details and what you have downloaded.

Both ways of downloading have their good points, rapidshare is fast for those with paid accounts, full HTTP speed. It is much easier to find what you want on Torrent sites than to search Rapidshare, and of course, there is far more content on torrent sites too but unless you are downloading something with hundreds of seeders the speeds will likely be much slower than Rapidshare expecially from public trackers.

omgawd… that quality is so bad… soo bad, dont download it seriously, it’d be a waste of time. I know it’s a cam and im not supposed to ask for much, but it seriously not worth it
