Close Combat Modern Tactics-SKIDROW

Here’s one more low-budget game released few hours ago by group SKIDROW (it was originally released already back in November 2007). This war real-time strategy from studio Matrix Games copies the style of legendary Blitzkrieg, but it lacks its gameplay, great features and even graphic. There’s no protection apart from the serial number and the size is also quite small so you can give it a try if you’re into army games.

Close Combat: Modern Tactics brings you classic top down real time tactical warfare with the excitement of multiplayer head to head gaming. You take command of either US or opposition forces and engage in head to head battle (with up to 5 players per side) using modern era weaponry and equipment on gorgeous hand drawn maps measuring 1km square up to giant 4km x 1km maps. Air and artillery support are on-call but the objective can only be secured by Close Combat. You are in command!

Game features:

  • Based on Close Combat Marines, which is used as a USMC training simulation
  • Gorgeous hand-drawn 1km square to 1×4km maps
  • Comes with 25 Modern scenarios based on real-world and hypothetical conflicts
  • Realistic soldier psychological profiles during combat
  • Up to 5 v 5 Multiplayer. Now Up to 10 players can be involved in one Battle!
  • Accurate and realistic modern equipment modelling
  • Mount and Dismount specialized vehicles
  • Accurately depicts modern tactical warfare and its challenges
  • Close air support and direct and indirect fire
  • Ability to protect your men in buildings, bunkers, and trenches
  • Includes specialized squads, weapons, soldier types, attack

Minimum system requirements:

  • Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista
  • 300 Mhz Processor or faster
  • Minimum 256mb (recommended 512mb; 1 Gb for Windows Vista)
  • Video Card capable 1024 x 768 or better
  • 16-Bit DirectX 9 compatible soundcard
  • Hard disk space: 1.5 Gb

You are wrong Martin! This is not a copy of ‘Blitzkrieg’! Rather it is an updated version of ‘Close Combat’ a game that predates Blitzkrieg by many years and is very well respected by serious wargamers. While I like nice graphics, in a wargame it is hardly the biggest selling point, and if the gameplay is anything like the old Close Combat series it should be a very good game indeed. If you don’t know anything about wargames then don’t comment, and stick to Halo 3!

Seriously, leave the little “reviews” out if you don’t have a clue what the game is about.

Close Combat has been around for ages, and is widely regarded as one of the best wargames around. This baby here is a commercial release of what was originally a training module that has been made years ago for the US army. So yes, it looks crap, but plays like a charm. This game is from the days when gameplay mattered IMHO.

So all in all, this game’s style is not copied from Blitzkrieg, and is one of the best tactical squad-based war sims around.

    /rant off

    Good post!

    ditto posters #4 and #5

close combat has created a genre of it’s own and it is indeed a very respected game among the grognards… rest of the boyz can go play command and conquer, it has 2 cs in it’s name tooo.

I agree with others. Close Combat is only RTS series that i could call pure strategy game. All other RTS are shooters with some strategy elements. I will definitly give this game a try. If it’s anything like old Microsoft’s Close Combat this game will rock big time.

Yeah.. Honestly, if you don’t know what the game is about don’t diss it. I played this game ages ago and it was real fun… If you don’t know, don’t post.. it’s bad to give the games a bad idea and bad rep.

    BTW, poster #5 is correct.

    June 1st, 2008 | 19:46

    Lol, copy of Blizkrieg….
Close Combat is very old series that revolutionized squad level tactical strategy games into real time, still keeping the highly tactical aspect and realism on. Close Combats were and still are the most realistic real time strategy games ever build.
Too bad that this new Modern Tactics is very buggy and has horrible AI. Instead this, you guys should try excellent Close Combat: Cross of Iron.

5th poster is correct, first close combat came in year 1992 or something if I remember right. I haven’t played this one but I recommend to try Close Combat 3: The Russian Front instead of Cross of Iron. Cross of Iron is just Russian Front with new menus and the changes are the same than if you install Real Red mod on Russian Front. Modern Tactics is based on Close Combat 5: Invasion Normandy, that is also a good game.

Why did you hire guys like this Martin to write the rewiews ?

They have no clue about gaming !!! I expect this guy to explain us next how Heroes of Might and Magic is a copy after Disciple , how WOW is a clone of Age of Conan and how Counterstrike is a clone of Soldier of Fortune.

I don’t have any ideeas about rockets and that’s why I don’t write about them.

If they have no fkin clues about games don’t let them write about them. Pls fire MArtin , send him home fast.

    @18
Cross of Iron is yes made from CC3 source code, but it has lots of important improvements, that you cant get into CC3.
1st it works in modern windows.
2nd it allows use any kind of resolution u want. Playing Cross of Iron with 1680×1050 compared to CC3:s 1024×768 is huge difference.
3rd It has improved internet play
4th It has improved graphical effects
5th It also eats Mods, and I’m not sure, but I think all major mods been converted for it

So get Cross of Iron instead of CC3.

“This war real-time strategy from studio Matrix Games copies the style of legendary Blitzkrieg”

Everyone already beat me to commenting about this. It was just such a ridiculous statement. Blitzkrieg isn’t even that legendary. Do you, Martin, even realize that Blitzkrieg was a copy of Sudden Strike?

Man, you kids need to get some education.
