This is great since I *hate* the Ribbon. Microsoft seems
to have a thing for forcing unwanted ideas down peoples
throat using their monopoly on the OS market. Note that
with a stock installation, you can't skin office back to
the old style--by design I would claim.

As Private Jack's wondering why use 2007 if we don't like it;
it's because you receive a document saved in 2007 (at work)
and have to use 2007 to open it.

THe 2007 office menu sucks, it adds so much more mouse clicks/movements to find simple things. I think yes, they are logically placed out in their headings, but there is so much wasted space on each toolbar. Im downloading this thing cos the new bar is illogical to use, and takes longer to to simple things that you could do in a click with office 2003. Why would you make usability go backwards? Stupid microsoft

BEEN using Office 07 for a while now and I still HATE the ribbon. PPT is fine but WORD is absolutely ridiculous. It's not that there's a large learning curve or anything else other users think people who do not like the ribbon suffer from. I hardly use the menus, I know the shortcuts well enough to do much of what I need by shortcuts and the likes. The more advance functions that I am used to is so deeply burrowed that I just want to hit thing. I upgraded for the new PPT but I would have been glad to stick with the older versions of the rest of the suite.

The ribbon moves many common commands across different menu tabs, and makes customization very difficult. While it does help in Excel, it slows me down in Word. Yes, I can add buttons to the quick-access bar, but I would prefer to have associated sets of tools together. Clearly it is not efficient if the most prominent feature is the text style bar, which I rarely touch, and yet cannot remove or replace (I can remove most of it, but that doesn't help me much). Why go 2007 and still get this? I am given 2007 by my school, and do not want to separately purchase 2003.

why would you want this!? the new interface is way quicker, the only thing that annoys me is that it doesnt auto switch to picture tab when you click on a picture

I'm a daily user of windows. I installed XP, and first thing i did was to switch back to classic style windows. Then i installed Vista when it came with my new computer. And changing settings that used to be in the range of 3clicks on classic W2K was suddenly 10clicks away or even hidden by default. (even for the admin) so first thing i did was getting rid of all Vista (I must admit, it looks nice, but i don't want nice looks, i want easy and quick access to everything i need) so i changed Vista back to W2K classics as well.

As for office, everyone, my dad, wife, friends, everyone hates it..It's like all cars have their steering wheel, and all the other buttons, and suddenly you get a car without a steering wheel where you have to search for all the buttons and everything to control the car. This is highly unadvisable! So yeah, this plugin is a need for everyone, at least if you need to work in timeframes, you can learn the new layout over time then, but when you need quick access to anything, you can always fall back to the old menu driven office products and make sure your boss doesn't yell at you half an hour where the hell his documents are and why aren't you printing those documents!

Well, I am Access programmer since 1994 and I have wrote a large amount of articles for magazine about Access, tips & tricks, etc. Professionally I must use and explore each version of Access in details and, let me say, ribbon sucks.

Ribbon is OK for lammers, while power user finds its hard to use it. Access don't need at all as there are, comparing to other programs, lot less commands in menus. There are other zillions of issues in new Office, but my vote goes to classic.

I forgot to add, I use the menubar in Windows Media Player and I'm still disgruntled by the fact that there's a fucking URGE or Napster Icon in WMP as if to say "Support MS by buying more shit from one of it's partners".

I personally don't like the ribbon, since I already know where everything is, and it's been fairly static for years now. I don't think that MS was wrong for making it, or even setting it as default, but they should have left the option to use it there. I despise the fact that I have to use a third party app to have the functionality of 2003 and earlier versions. While I know almost all of the shortcuts and hotkeys, sometimes I forget and it's nice to have a familiar menu.

The problem I have with the ribbon is that since I rarely need to use the menu bar, the change has reduced my efficiency with it to a mere margin of what it was formerly. Now when I want to use an obscure command that I can't remember the hotkey for I have to actually look for it as opposed to pressing Menu Item> Letter. And god forbid it isn't on the ribbon by default. Hopefully in a service pack MS will give you the option of using the old menu.

Then again, we're talking about the guys that worked with the NSA to design an OS that connects to the DOD without your knowing. Maybe we veterans really are fucked.
