Wow, this release completely passed me by at pre time yesterday. I saw the trailer at apple.com/trailers a while back and I thought it looked really trippy. This is a chinese film by famous chinese director, actor and writer Stephen Chow. It is very likely you will recognize him from his most famous project “Kung-Fu Hustle” (which was a smash hit worldwide) or “Shaolin Soccer” which was a really enjoyable film as well. The style of this film looks entirely different, but original all the same, so this is definitely worth a watch.

Quality: Its a DVDRip! Awesome quality all crammed in on one CD. 936kb/s video bitrate and 162kb/s audio bitrate. Spoken language is the original Cantonese (Thank god for that, gotta hate dubs) but ESPiSE have supplied English, Chinese, Korean and Thai subtitles. Cams were previously released of this film but finally we get this brilliant rip. Download away.

Ti (Stephen Chow) is a poor father who works all day, everyday at a construction site to make sure his son Dicky Chow (Xu Jian) can attend an elite private school. Despite his father’s good intentions to give his son the opportunities he never had, Dicky, with his dirty and tattered clothes and none of the “cool” toys stands out from his schoolmates like a sore thumb. Ti can’t afford to buy Dicky any expensive toys and goes to the best place he knows to get new stuff for Dicky – the junk yard! While out “shopping” for a new toy for his son, Ti finds a mysterious orb and brings it home for Dicky to play with.

    Anyone expecting this to be of Kung Fu Hustle/Shaolin Soccer Soccer standards well don’t. It’s a pretty tame movie by Stephen Chow standards, a bit too Hollywood, not much of his own trademark style.

    this movie has some very funny parts, classic stephen chow type movie angles and characters. However, overall it wasn’t like a ‘wow’ or ‘awesome movie’ my reaction was rather ‘oh, was that it?’…even the alien dog couldn’t heal the dissapointment i had with this movie.

    overal recommended, but not one of stephen chow’s great movies. was expecting more from him though, hope dragonball z (which he is going to help direct) will be somewhat better.

    Stephen Chow has done dozens of movies. His trademark style is comedy using cross-talk and ambiguity in Cantonese, so it doesn’t translate well into English, which is why you’ve never heard of most of his films.

    It’s a bit like with Chow Yun Fat – most of his films are actually romances, rather than action films, but they don’t make it over here, so we tend to think of him as purely an action film star.

    PS Cantonese subtitles? Nah, Cantonese is a spoken language and Chinese is a written one, so the Cantonese subs are actually Chinese ones readable by anyone who speaks any Chinese language.

    Stephen Chow has a certain style that always can be recognized in his movies. In most of his work he parodies well known movies (Hollywood,Hong Kong and other). Of course he uses humor that only can be understood if you know his language. But most of his humor is very visual and therefore very universal. Kungfu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer were great movies,but those are only two fine examples of his work. Ever heard about the “Fight back to school” series. Or “Chinese Oddysey” (two movies). Truly hilarious stuff.

    I have to agreed with several posts here about Stephen Chow’s style. His rapid-fire humor in Cantonese is almost impossible to translate into English. Some of his movies are not exactly action packed but extremely funny…that is if you understand Cantonese.

    Watch this a week back. Some comic moments, but nothing close to Kung Fu Hustle’s level. Will appeal to kids. If you are into asian movies, go for Kung Fu Dunk and the other An Empress And The Warriors. The latter is pretty good action stuff.

    Been waiting for this new Stephen Chow movie for awhile. Truth is, I wasn’t aware of this movie at all, I was just waiting for a new Stephen Chow film. Any film :) He’s been getting better and better with time.

    I think I will get this one even if its a little softer than Stephen Chow’s usual ones.
    Just curious, what does the tag LIMITED mean? and the STV?

    The film was entertaining, what surprised me was the emotional elements, they really pull out your heartstrings, very realistically portrayed, (you’ll no what i mean..).

    Did you guys know that the Son is actually played by a female actress?

    Also the massive girl in the film is really a man, (obvious), but also…The big bully male is played by a female lol.

    Oh and also… the male rich kid (the leader of the bullies) IS PLAYED BY A GIRL TOO!

    It’s crazy! …and i own you.

    Another bad movie i watched recently from RLSLOG. The actors you may know from his other movies (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle). It’s for KIDS only. If you are age 15 or above i suggest you pass.
