Civic Duty 2006 LIMITED DVDSCR xVID-LRC

Guys from LRC bring us a nice dvd screener of a British limited thriller Civic Duty. The movie looks very good, but it will raise a lot of questions probably, as it plays with terrorists, 9/11 and similar topics. It was preimered at Tribeca Film Festival last summer but the official DVD release date is still ahead of us. The quality of this dvdscr is nice, but not brilliant - there is blurred watermark at bottom and the picture isn’t also completely clear, but it’s definitely watchable.

Angry and depressed over losing his job, accountant Terry Allen begins to suspect his new neighbor, a single Islamic grad student with a penchant for unexplained late night activities, is at the center of a terrorist conspiracy. Although both Terry’s wife and the FBI agent to whom he reports his suspicions are skeptical about his fears, Terry becomes increasingly obsessed with uncovering the man’s true identity. Convinced he’s all that stands between this Middle-Eastern stranger and a deadly terror attack, Terry finally decides to take matters into his own hands - with shocking results.

A tense psychological thriller in the tradition of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, Civic Duty takes a controversial look at fear and prejudice in the highly charged atmosphere of post-9/11 America. Set during a unique and frightening moment in U.S. history, as the nation grappled with setting the proper balance between personal freedom and enhanced security, Civic Duty challenges viewers to examine their own preconceptions about tolerance and terror. Directed by Jeff Renfroe from an original screenplay by Andrew Joiner, Civic Duty stars Peter Krause (”Six Feet Under”), Richard Schiff (”The West Wing”), Kari Matchett (”Invasion”) and Egyptian movie idol Khaled Abol Naga in his American screen debut. The film is produced by Andrew Lanter, Tina Pehme, Kim Roberts Peter Krause and Andrew Joiner. Eli Rothnman, Kelly Dunacn, David Boim and Vic Sarin are the executive producer.

You know ever since the goddamn world has gone to war with the islamic fuckheads, hollywood seems to think its a great ideal to spread fear and panic to everyone about how dangerous local islamic biblethumper is out to kill you and your whore of a wife cause she isnt wearing a headwrap. WELL FU Hollywood. FU islamic terrorists. Just cause they are islamic doesn’t make them terrorists. So fuck this movie and fuck the people who made it. I am sick and tired of seeing and hearing about terrorists, fuck them all.

first off Al-Quesedia had nothing to do with partaking in the whole 9/11 operation (which is funny because the state-controlled media always makes it seem that way) . since it was a false flag op carried out by many avenues deep within the US government. i skip this and all other propoganda hollywood movies like flight whatever it was and that one 9/11 ground zero movie with N. Cage.

Actually Mr. X, we’re on to you. It’s obvious that you’re a NSA plant here to spread disinformation to basement dwellers everywhere and collect information on them for the MMPA — an organization that is, as we all know, run by clones of Hitler (who was, by the way, an alien), and is at the center of the NEW WORLD ORDER!!!

    Oh noes!!!1!11!!

Hey, makes as much sense as the mental diarrhea you vomit here on a regular basis…

mr p, with all due respect, you’re an idiot. The overall direction of our foreign policy is no doubt abominable, but comparing it to terrorism, as well as implying that it doesn’t have any negative aspects in it, will only show your ignorance and poor judgment.

Spot on… comparing US Foreign policy to terrorism is nonesense. There isn’t a terrorist group in the world kills, maims, starves, represses, or goes all out to topple as many elected heads of state as that of the men and women behind U.S. Forgein policy.

I didn’t realize that Condoleezza Rice starved and maimed the world’s population. Being indifferent to some of the world’s problems is not the same as deliberately causing them. Also, don’t forget that the primary (some say the only) role of all foreign relationships is to protect the rights of the countries’ own citizens, not to “bring freedom and democracy” to the rest of the world. What I mean is all foreign policy decisions are pragmatic in their core, not only ones of U.S. Case in point: the U.N. and its involvement, or lack thereof, into the Darfur and Rwanda conflicts. Should I call them a bunch of terrorists as well?

Again, I’m not saying our current foreign policy is on the right track. I’m saying that comparing it to terrorism, that is the calculated use of violence against mostly civilian targets in order to attain one’s goals, is overreaching, to say at least. Oh, well, what’s the purpose of providing reasonable arguments in a place where adolescent gay/French/MS/U.S/muslim bashing occur every second post….

The are at least half a million dead in Iraq as a direct result of the U.S. military invasion. The planners behind the invasion knew there would be huge civilian casualties. Any suggestion they didn’t know, or couldn’t have anticipated this would be to insult both their (and my) intelligence.

That they thought this might somehow eventually be in the U.S. self interest beggars belief, but it is a point I am willing to concede as irrelevant.

However if you can concede the above point (and there are very reliable sources as to the casualties in Iraq so there is no reason not to), you should consider the suggestion that going ahead with the war despite anticipating these casualites equates to diliberate mass murder. Their ends and means are indistinguishable at this point, and so to differentiate between U.S. forgein policy and ‘terrorism’ is simply splitting hairs.

First of all, the half of million dead reference is considered to be completely wrong by many trusted experts. The Iraqi Body Count estimates the maximum number of civilians reported killed by military intervention in Iraq to be ~71000. With military and other related deaths, it still should not exceed 100,000, which, I have to agree, is still an insanely huge number, but not as huge as 500,000+ you claim it to be.

As for planners knowing about such casualties in advance, I disagree strongly. I just watched pre-war video recordings that undoubtedly indicate otherwise. The Iraqi War clearly turned out to be nothing its planners hoped it would, and, in my opinion, you are completely wrong by thinking and saying the opposite. Once again, I do not approve of the war. I think we now have one of the worst presidents in this country’s history. I’m sure that most of the current U.S. foreign relationship problems are caused by our shortsightedness, our ignorance, and our overall arrogance. I don’t, however, like to discredit myself by throwing in some overblown figures and factoids just to show my disdain to the current administration. I strongly recommend you do the same.

    Boo,

Sorry this is hardly the time or the place. I had a reply written, but neglected to put in the Spam Protection and when I hit the back button my reply was gone.

I concede that I was wrong to imply I could back up my half a million dead claim, and grant that the figures are disputed. For the record I was using the Lancet Study’s figure of 630,000 dead and rounded down.

On the other points we will have to agree to disagree - it is my opinion the U.S. Institutions conducted a campaign of mass murder in Iraq, pillaging its resources, using 9/11 as the justification, and doing it all with the complicity of the U.S. Media and much of its population.

Futhermore I think the argument that the U.S. Military and Administration didn’t anticpate what they were in for does not hold water. Saying that they were short-sighted or ignorant is an inexcusable apology for murder. Millions of people all over the world marched on capitals warning of just such an outcome to this invasion and they were not refuted with reasonable argument, but were ignored.

Shit, there I go again. Where the hell is this torrent file?

Yeah, I realized you were using the controversial Lancet study (a.k.a. Johns Hopkins Iraqi study). Since many trustworthy experts tend to be skeptical about its validity, and the only two other studies I know of show completely different figures (less than 100,000 casualties both), I don’t see how can accept the figure without any objections. As for the administration’s pre-war line of reasoning, trust me, there were no evil plan of conspiracy - just plain old stupidity and arrogance all the way. One more thing to add (just to counterargument your mass murder remarks) is that the vast majority of the killings have been made by Iraqis themselves. The U.S. government, being sure that toppling Saddam would make all the Iraqis dance in joy and live happily ever after (please refer to the ‘arrogance’ and ‘ignorance’ parts of my post for an explanation), created a black hole of death and despair that resulted in thousands of deaths in Iraq and in a complete political mess all around the world. Can these political actions be called mass murdering? I don’t think so. Can they be forgiven due to the ignorance of their planners? No. I wish I could end with something optimistic but it’s difficult to see a bright future when one’s stuck in a sh*thole like this…

    Mr. X,

Are you the same Mr. X who was sent by his superior officer, General Y, to the South Pole a few weeks before November 22, 1963?

Did ya happen to notice that Colin Powell and Tony Blair, the only officials who promised to produce real evidence regarding the attacks, er um, never did?

Did ya read Chapter One of the 911 Commission ‘Report’ (slowly) and reach a point, about five minutes before Flight 11 impacts the North Tower, where you have to put the book down because the “good fiction” element is destroyed by a few metaphysical impossibilities?

And did ya happen to notice that 9-11, other than being the holiest day in the Nazi calendar (i.e. Neun-November), was actually a rip-off of Shane Black’s “Long Kiss Goodnight?”

    ….

    Charlie: Operation Honeymoon… F’ me! You’re running a fund-raiser.

    Mitch: Fund-raiser?

Leland Perkins: 1993 … World Trade Center
bombing, remember? During the trial, one of the bombers claimed the CIA had advance knowledge. The diplomat who issued the terrorists’ visa was CIA. It’s not unthinkable
they paved the way for the bombing, purely to justify
a budget increase; [shakedown the country to ramp through an agenda.]

Mitch: Your telling me that your gonna fake some terrorist thing just to scare some money out of Congress?

Leland Perkins: Well, unfortunately I have no idea how to fake killing 4,000 people - so we’re just gonna have to do it for real. Blame it on the Muslims, naturally. Then I get my funding. [and my war (against a tactic), and my contracts, and my patriot act, and more and more power to get whatever the hell I want by merely mentioning "September 11th."]

And can you imagine if Tallmadge captured Benedict Arnold along with Andre?

    ….

Arnold: I don’t deserve this… to die like this. I was building a house.

Washington: Deserve’s got nothin’ to do with it.

    [tightens the felon's noose]

Arnold: I’ll see you in hell, [George].
