Chris Cornell – Carry On (2007)

Former band member of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog Chris Cornell has released his second solo album “Carry On”. The album is due to be released in the UK on the 28th of May and 5th of June in the US. Again its another fine release from SAW so quality is expected to be good. Many music lovers should probably know Chris Cornell and will know his music talent so you should expect a good album from him.

In the fall of 2006, Cornell started recording his second solo album Carry On, with producer Steve Lillywhite. Among some fellow artists who are expected to accompany him on his second solo release is friend and legendary musician Gary Lucas, who has contributed acoustic guitar to some of the tracks. Cornell has stated that he is always writing, and that there are some songs that he was not able to put into an Audioslave album.. The album release date has been pushed out from the original release date of May 1 to June 5, 2007.

While recording his second solo album, Cornell was involved in a motorcycle accident. He was apparently “rear-ended by a truck in L.A.’s Studio City while riding his motorcycle” and “catapulted 20 feet into the air.” He was, however, able to walk away from the accident but had severe cuts and bruises. He returned to the studio to record his album later that day.

Among the roster of artists contributing to some of the tracks on Carry On are jazz bassist Miles Mosley, guitarists Brian Ray, Gary Lucas, Cameron Greider and Dimitri Coats, and drummer Nir Zidkyahu. The first official single from this album has been confirmed as “No Such Thing”, and the song “Arms Around Your Love”, which will be the first single in the U.K., has also leaked recently. The Song She’ll Never Be Your Man is also now avalible on Chris Cornell’s homepage. The entire album has leaked as of May 17th, probably due to it’s being handed out to fans at a May 16th London concert.

Thanks AJ you the man – great album from track 3 onwards. @ Mike – Chris Cornell is the old singer from Soundgarden – 90’s Seattle grunge band and the frontman from Audioslave.

He was also the vocalist for Temple of the Dog. And he produced an earlier solo cd around 2000 or so called euphoria morning. But since I’m downloading this now so I can’t say if it was anything like this release however his earlier solo cd was probably one of the last cds released that could be considered art due to it’s lyrics & music both. Mind you that’s personal opinion but ppl would have to be brain dead from the crap out there now not to at least agree it was art even if they dislike what was produced. Just to help encourage you to go download the great singles from his earlier bands Mike since it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t know the song “Blackhole Sun” by Soundgarden.

With that said, great work A.J.

I’m so glad you guys are starting to spread the news for diverse music instead of just hiphop.
    Keep it up!

This album is, imho, his worst work to date, fans of good music should definately check out his temple of the dog and soundgarden days.

I’ve been a fan since 1994 and I think this is up there with almost anything he’s done. Brave, varied, imaginative work – it’s not all rock. Wonderful vocals, great songwriting.

Nice to see people refreshing memories! Chris is a lyrical genius! Not only does Chris sound amazing, but the musicians that are backing him are amazingly talented! I have seen him n concert once and am going again! If you want real substance when you listen to music I recomend Carry on, and if you like that and have never heard any of his other stuff…Try Euphoria Morning, Temple of the Dog, The first and third audioslave cd and Soundgarden b sides. Never a disappointment and something for everyone!

I just bought this CD tonight and I love it. She’ll Never Be Your Man is my favorite so far. But I’m enjoying every song. The Billie Jean cover is amazing!

I received a copy of this album an gave it a spin. I nearly
shot my projectile of earl grey I was sipping into my ceiling
fan! It is one of my lad Chris’ poorest efforts. My band
however will flourish in this rock and roll poor country. The
drought has gone on long enough. Our new album is ectasy compared to this blather CC tries to pass as rock. Sorry
chris, but I call them, er rather project them as I hear them. Best wishes, Ian.

Right on! I am loving this CD! The more I listen, the better it gets. It is a dash of the Beatles, a pinch of Led Zep, and a lot of pure Cornell. As of now (it has changed and will again) my favorites are Today, Killing Birds, and I do love the Casino Royale theme too.

As before, but a little more…I find this latest effort from the former Soundgarden frontman utterly droll. Killing
birds reminds me of Karma Cameleon. The vocals sound like the gurgling I heard emmanating from the rear of Sheryl Crows french fry oil driven single toilet tissue goddess’touring bus. Casino Royale harkens back to the days when my own band ruled the airwaves…pure copycat material Mr. Cornell has produced. Listen to my bands new album, which may I say, is the empitomy of genius. Best Wishes. Ian

Started listening to this album when it leaked at the end of May and it is still on continuous play in my player. Love all of the different types of music he has covered in it. Some say he has no direction on the album. I like it when Chris goes in all directions. I will follow him in all of them, hard rock, classic rock, eclectic alternative, bluesy ballads, even the sappiest of love songs. I am completely smitten with the album.

Wow! This is a killer album! Every song is pure quality! Chris’s voice has never sounded better. A really diverse album if you liked soundgarden, temple of the dog, audioslave, or his amazing solo debut, Euphoria Morning, there is something for you here. It takes a few listens…but then reveals itself to be perhaps the best thing Cornell has ever done. Awesome tracks include: Dissapearing Act, No Such Thing, She’ll Never Be Your Man, Ghosts, Arms Around Your Love, and You Know My Name. Album of the year so far!

Pure drivel. Nonsense. Blather…listen to our new album as it is well over twice the quality, creative and ingenious.
Soundcornell is the same tired old music. Nothing new. My bands new album however will rock forever. Best wishes, Ian.

This album is so great, I grow more attached to it each time I listen to it. Currently my favorite song is Killing Birds. I have heard a lot of people say this album is to happy for Chris and devoted fans were expecting something similar to Euphoria Morning. If you listen to the album closely, it’s really not all that happy. I think the happy tuned music makes you think that, but if you actually listen to the lyrics, you’ll see a darker side. Either way you prefer, it’s just a great album, one that is long overdue from Chris. I know most of us are happy to see him return to what he does best, writing and doing songs on his own, that are not political, but simply classic, soulful songs showcasing that wonderful voice. You can preview the entire album on myspace.com/chriscornell. Also, don’t forget to check out Chris’ version of Billie Jean and also check his website chriscornell.com for his latest tour dates. The tour is one not to be missed, as he plays hits from Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave as well as his solo albums. I have seen two shows on the tour, and it’s been awesome! Pick up this CD today, and enjoy!

I love his new cd, Carry On! It has totally grown on me and is on its way to being one of my favorites. It’s different than anything he’s done, which is refreshing. It’s still Chris Cornell though…creative lyrics, great music, amazing voice! I think it shows his maturity personally and as an artist. The album has something for everyone and would fit in with any collection, regardless of your main music taste. I would definitely recommend it!

Bridget Z…I cannot believe my all seeing British eyes!
Soundcornell is purely a political machine. Listen very closely to “Killing Birds” it is in direct affirmation of the
Huffington Posts aversion to the satanical wishes that would
befall your American vice president! The song “ghosts” is a song pining for the fall of the Halliburton Corporation. Listen very closely! “You know my name” is a Bush bashing song meant to perpetuate political strife. Listen to my bands
latest effort to truly appreciate a non-political record of
    great music. Best wishes, Ian.

This is for those with sophisticated ears. You can’t go in expecting one thing because you will not get it with this album. This is definitely Cornell at his best songwriting ability. We all evolve and we can’t expect a band or solo artist to sound just like they did way back when “the first album” came out. We grow older and appreciate the finer things in life. This album is definitely one of those finer things in life. Great album!

But on the other hand, I did get the new Cult album and yes Ian it is an instant classic. I am already tired of “soundcornell”, it does become dated like his other “efforts”. I agree the Cult is timeless. After about 3 listens, Killing Birds did in fact sound like Karma Kameleon.
