For what it’s worth – Chew-WGA replaces certain system files to trick windows into thinking it is activated, turning your version of windows into a frankenbuild. Although it works, it is the least effective method and _not_ recommended unless every other activation method fails.

This proggy don’t turn your 7 into a so-called frankenbuild. It ingeniously tricks WGA protection by making Windows thinks it is activated. A few System files have been cracked to this effect, and it is less harmful than other Loaders that can brick your MBR.

I would like to point out the fact that #18 has no idea about what is called a “frankenbuild”. Since this tackles the client side of WGA scheme itself, there is no way for MS to directly know that you are using a non-genu box and also they will not be able to do much even if they detect it bcoz the self-pwnage code intructions sent by the WGA servers will simply be ignored by the chewed WGA. Good work by the ChewWGA team. Good things always come to those who wait, just like I said before, when the loaders were being released. And thanX to Frado.

I’d rather use a MBR activation crack that doesn’t modify system files than a crack that does. Depending which file has been modified, a simple unrelated update could brick your install.

Define Frankenbuild
anonymous is right. chew-wga will turn your windows7 into a “frankenbuild” by replacing tokens.dat and other system files. in fact if you look at the feature list at the top of this post you can see one of the features as:

think about this for a second. every version of windows7 needs a key to activate. even using bios slic or a loader you will still need a key. even enterprise edition needs a kms or mak key. the only way you could possibly activate without a key is if you were using some form of crack. hence “frankenbuild”

*sigh* This proggy is using the default windows key, and prevents MS to test it, so that it will always stay activated. It has been successfully tested with present & future dates.
I’m sure you use many cracked softwares on your PC : you don’t denigrate them as “Frankenbuilds” for all that.

FRANKENBUILD – Frankenbuild is a term coined by Microsoft’s WGA Team used to describe workaround for product activation by extracting licensing files from RC (Release Candidate) build and mixing with the RTM build license files to create a hybrid system that bypasses activation using RC product key.

It does not modify the main system files, only the wga check scheme. But in the end.. it does not really matter… as long as it works.
NO METHOD is 100% unless you buy Windows legit.
Even OEM which can be changed by microsoft if they wanted… by giving original companies a new key or disc (removing old license keys)… which is something they are planning to do at start of next year.
This is just another option for people to use. If it works, great (as long as main system files and kernel aren’t changed, will be fine), otherwise try another.

Sure, it doesn’t fit the MS defintion of a frankenbuild – but the term is pretty much associated with any WGA workaround that modifies your windows system files (something that a BIOS SLIC table and good loaders don’t do).
Anyway, I don’t really care enough to argue this any more. If you want to use Chew-WGA and it works for you – awesome. Just don’t expect it to somehow magically activate your windows without modifying anything. Remember – it’s called a “Windows 7 Patch” for a reason.

Well, this didn’t work for me atleast. And those MBR fiddling programs is a hell to use..
been trying to activate 7600 rtm with quite a few methods to no avail – this program worked within seconds!
@41 dude, if you had half a brain you wouldn’t corrupt your MBR in the first place. Second, if you had a fully functional brain and ran into a problem corrupting you MBR, whether it’s with a MBR crack or because of an unrelated problem, you’d know that popping in the drive your install CD/DVD would give you the option to repair your MBR.
I’m not bashing this junk. I’m being objective. depending what file is being modified to trick windows think that it has been activated, an update could kill the activation.
Heck, if cracks to activate Vista/7 that modify system files were so superior, we’d all use them and that since Vista, and that no matter if the crack uses a serial or not. Get a brain.

First, frankenbuild sounds bad, but it’s and accurate and perfectly legit way to describe a thing (the crack isn’t bad because someone points out the fact it is a frankenbuild).
Second, the reason it’s useful to know a patch like this is a frankenbuild is because cracks which modify system files can be broken by performing updates (if those updates overwrite modified system files required for the patch to work).
So in all fairness, this looks like a very nice patch and for those of us who care (or understand) it’s nice that someone has pointed this out so that should an update break the system we’ll have a better idea of what happened and what to look at to fix it. Just like the loaders present their own possible problems (key revoking, etc).

Regarding the issue of Frankenbuild, I think everyone here has his/her own definition of what a Frankenbuild is really.
Also, I want to mention here, whatever files which Chew-WGA targets, I believe, they wont be affected! Chew-WGA is made that way!
I know someone who have been running Chew-WGA for 2 weeks now. Installed with all the latest updates till now, and still everything works fine!
So what’s everyone’s success rate with this? The loaders don’t work for me. It’ll say activated after the reboot and then after the next reboot, it says that the slic tables are missing. It’s an older system (Evo D500) and there are no bios updates available.

i got 3 rigs runnin at home, one has 7600 precracked, one still has MS 7100 with MS original beta key [ still running with out patches ] and i testes this chewing app on 7600 x64 wich i didnt have activator for and it works fine.

This modifies system files and will be one of the first things MS patch and render useless just like all the XP patches and the early Vista patches. Any half decent loader these days won’t mess up your MBR, thats a poor excuse since the newer loaders give you a menu if an option should fail. Even if a key is blacklisted the loader would still function so again thats false information too.
Hi everyone. Thank you for the many added links and for trying out my software, Chew-WGA. I came up with the name one morning when I was chewing on some Golden Grahams cereal while being frustrated that no one had yet conquered the Windows 7 time bomb. So I set out on my mission to do my part to liberate the operating system from the clutches of evil.
Chew-WGA has come a very long way since that fateful day, and I’ve changed a big chunk of how it works with every new release. Anyway, I’d like to clarify some of the concerns I’ve been reading.
I made 0.9 with hotfix protection in mind, which is something I’ve never seen done before, curiously enough. The only way an update will be able to patch the files that make it work, is if you ran a tool designed for this purpose under your user level rights. The system will not be able to automatically restore the patched files with their originals. If for some reason, you made the mistake of running a tool that would essentially uninstall the changes made by Chew-WGA, then all that would be required to put things back to good, is to simply reapply the tool. Done.
Regarding the multi-language resource modifications that are mentioned in the description (as one of you pointed out), this is actually no longer true; we now use a different approach entirely. I simply overlooked updating that part of the description in the instructions document. This document was the last thing on my mind when developing the utility, and I apologize for not reading it over as thoroughly as I should have.
For those of you referring to Chew-WGA as a “Frankenbuild”, it really depends on your definition. The true meaning of the term, as coined by Microsoft, is a method that involves cobbling files together from an RC build and an RTM build in order to create a hybrid that bypasses activation. This is not the Chew-WGA approach at all. However, if you are one of the few who have not realized a distinction between a hybrid workaround and a hack, then yes, to you it is a Frankenbuild, as would be all patches and cracks…
Well, that’s my two cents. If you don’t like the tool, then don’t use it. If you’re having trouble, then post a comment on the Chew-WGA website, and you’ll get an answer to your question. If your aim is to bash other people’s work when you couldn’t do any better (or else you would not have been looking at the post in the first place to find a solution), then go start a blog or something, because clearly you have nothing better to do with your time.

anonymous Jane 324 – if you are using the Daz patcher and cannot use the Slic tables why don’t you try the loader option that is included with Daz instead? Alternatively, you may want to try this.
Been looking thru windows 7 oes including last one Ultimate for 86. but these include a patch. would the patches on these programs interfere with the above work by Chew? if so
could a home prem or ultimate be used by Ignoring the inbuilt cracks?

No need to backup.
This includes an uninstaller.
If you want to remove it, the just revert button.
Note: The Revert button is ONLY seen when Chew-WGA is already installed on a system.

neither option works. If I select slic 2.1, nothing happens after installation. It just doesn’t work. If I select the software loader, it only works for one system start. The next reboot, before the OS loads, it complains about not finding the necessary slic tables. Daz and Hazars loaders both do the same for me.

Had a pre-activated version of 7 Ultimate installed, and after running CHEW 0.9, It says “This copy of Windows is not activated. Click here to activate Windows now.” in the Windows activation tab on System Info. It also removed the Genuine / Activated logo.
Still able to use windows update and no popups though.
lols mine a pre-activated version of 7 Ultimate but some how went wrong then use this thing it works and my Genuine logo and product key is still there and displaying and so.. its all good

thanks for this program, been using this for about 3 weeks now. Just one thing, about a week ago a “not genuine logo popped-up on my win7 ult.” It did disappear after I Xed it out! And when I checked the activation, it still did say activated with the genuine logo to the right too! So everything you think is still all good?
p.s. for all those complaining bout the program, nobody is asking you to use it even download it. Go get a life!
