PS 3 Finally (probably) Hacked to run “backup” games!

Well, there you go. Some guys managed to do it! Finally there is a solution to play “backup” games on PS3. This is not usual modchip method but, instead it’s just “plug and play” called PSjailbreak. You put in prepared USB stick which greets you with GUI and then select game to play. Simple as that! Compatible with older PS3 and Slim models. Read source links for more info.

EA Blocks Multiplayer Mode on Used Games

Looks like EA has found another way to screw over the consumer.  If you download and burn games, it looks like if you care to play them online, you will need to pay $10/game.  It’s sad since for those of us in the U.S. can get games on craigslist at a way cheaper price than if you go to GameStop or any other game store and purchase them used.  I have 2 words for you EA……..BITE ME!

Starting with the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the publisher will introduce a new Online Pass, a one-time registration code included with each brand new copy of the game. The code allows players to access “online services, features and bonus content.”

Those who purchase the game used can buy an Online Pass for $10 or sign up for a free 7-day trial. The pass will be implemented for NCAA Football 11, NHL 11, Madden NFL 11, NBA 11, FIFA 11, and EA Sports MMA as well. The pass offers different features for each title, however, players will not have access to basic multiplayer features if purchased used.

“You will be unable to play multiplayer online game modes or use your downloaded content in online game modes,” EA says. Online leagues, dynasty and franchise modes are also only available with the Online Pass. The break down for each title can be seen on the publisher’s official website.

Redsn0w 0.9.5 BETA Mac OSX

Hey guys just here to inform you about the latest Redsn0w release from the iPhone Dev Team. You can read more about it below.

This is a beta release of redsn0w targeted at developers of jailbroken apps. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. Nothing new is revealed to Apple, and it’s not applicable to the iPad. Don’t go near it if you use yellowsn0w, ultrasn0w, or blacksn0w.

Please not that this beta is not meant for the average end-user. There are many things “broken” with jailbroken apps in the 4.0beta1 environment right now (that’s the real reason we showed “Veency” in the 4.0 jailbreak demo video last week, instead of say MobileTerminal.app, which is broken!). This beta redsn0w allows the developers behind those jailbroken apps (like MobileTerminal.app!) to fix their software before the general public gets iphoneOS 4.0. (Read the article)

Ubisoft Starts DRM For PC Games & Servers Crash

In mid February Ubisoft announced that as a effort to combat piracy, their games (including single player offline games…..i.e. Assassins Creed II, Silent Hunter 5 & The Settlers 7) would need constant internet connection to play them.  This new anti-piracy was perceived as too strong of a method to combat piracy and didn’t go over well with PC gamers.  Fast forward to this past weekend where the DRM servers in the UK went down due to the high demand of people looking to play Assassins Creed II.  Ubisoft has since apologized to gamers who couldn’t play via their Twitter page.  Ubisoft claims that their server was “attacked” and this is what caused it.

Worldwide PSN Error Stops On & Offline Playing of Games

Looks like PS3 owners can finally understand the pain of a system not working correctly.  Yesterday afternoon, primarily fatboy PS3′s would not connect to the PSN network and wouldn’t load games (Heavy Rain being one of them) as well as the system date automatically being changed due to this unknown issue.  Some speculate that it is a firmware issue since it even affects PS3′s that are not connected to the internet.  I have Heavy Rain and the game won’t load due to trophy’s being unable to load.

This is not the same as Xbox 360′s RRoD but this is just as bad to millions of PS3 owners.  It is scary to think that Sony can stop the offline playing of games.  As much as people bash Microsoft, at least they can’t stop offline play, they just ban you from online.   Seems like a good way for Sony to keep a strong control on things.   Sony has acknowledged the problem and continues to work on solving it. Have you received one of the 2 errors below???

An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network. (8001050F)
Registration of the trophy information could not be completed. The game will quit. (8001050F)

**UPDATE** Sony has released a statement regarding this. Here is just a piece of it while the whole statement can be read in it’s entirety at IGN.com

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

PS3 Hacked?

If you own one of iDevices (iPhone / iPod Touch) and you’re familiar with term “jailbreak” then you’ve probably heard of George Hotz aka Geohot, the guy who put a lot of his knowledge and efforts to bring us tools such as blackra1n, purplera1n, sn0w unlock, etc, etc… Well that same guy got his hands on PS3 and is in process to hack it, and claims he found an exploit so we’ll be able to run PS3 “backup games” and (possible) homebrew appz… True? Lie? We have to wait and see, but judging from his previous work he never lied, so keep your eyes on him…
