The Denmark trio, who uprooted their lives and relocated to Williamsburg, returns with their new album, A Bad Girl In Harlem. The process of writing A Bad Girl In Harlem proved long and arduous, but ultimately fruitful. The band came out of it with over 60 demos, many inspired by, lead singer, David’s new single life. The musicians embraced a greater variety of musical styles, drawing influence equally from punk rock and pop music. The recording process coincided with the songwriting, and in fact a few of the disc’s final tracks feature the original demo vocals, which resonate with a more genuine flair than the subsequent takes.

Gotye (pronounced Gaultier – like Jean Paul) is a one-man indie success story, a Beck-style sample magpie and a huge-hearted songwriter. Acting as his own manager, plugger and record label while working in a library by day, Belgium born Gotye has won a plethora of prestigious awards in his adopted home of Australia. Self-releasing `Like Drawing Blood’, he has won both the Australian equivalent of the Mercury Music Award (the AMP) and a BRIT Award (the ARIA for Best Male Artist), in 2007.

Description: U.S. pressing of this 2006 album from the Belgium born/Australia-based singer/songwriter, producer and popstar. All sounds on the album were collected and assembled or performed by Wally De Backer in bedrooms around Melbourne between 2003 and 2005, and the record was mixed and mastered by Franc Tetaz (Wolf Creek soundtrack, Machine Translations, Architecture in Helsinki) giving it a beautiful hi-fi depth and brilliance that goes beyond Wally’s lo-fi gem Boardface (2004). Musically, it’s another mixed bag with a subtle thread holding it all together- alt-pop with a broad sonic and thematic palette.
