Jack Johnson - Sleep Through the Static (Deluxe Edition) 2CD (2008)

Pre’d earlier this morning, this is a 2 CD re-released special edition of Jack Johnson’s newest album, Sleep Through The Static, which was released in February of this year. It includes 6 new remixes on said second disc.  If you do not have the original release, and want this album, you probably want this version.  If  you do have the original version, it’s up to you to decide if you want the remixes or not.

Jack Johnson’s 5th studio album has been highly anticipated, not only because it’s been a while since his last recording In Between Dreams, but also because it’s his first ‘electric’ (as in guitar) album. But despite being co-produced by JP Plunier–the man that produces Ben Harper and the mastermind behind Brushfire Fairytales–-specifically to shake things up, Sleep Through the Static isn’t that much of a departure after all. The mix of mellow sing-a-longs and slacker ballads are very much in line with earlier work, even if they do feel a little more mature and come with piano flourishes by new band member Zach Gill. The new maturity is evident not only in Johnson’s lyrics, which deal with everything from his new life as a father to the Iraq war, but also from the song arrangements, which foreswear the bigger hooks of previous albums for a more even flow. If that sounds like the album fails to push the envelope musically, it should. The songs here are consistently good, but they’re not groundbreaking. It might feel to some like an opportunity missed; but on the other hand Sleep Through The Static is full of what Johnson does best: easy-going campfire songs infused with that eternal stoner-slacker spirit.

AC DC - Black Ice (Retail) 2008-WHiTEFiRE

Sorry for putting this up late, anyway its here now. Got released today, pretty good band. Loved the song ‘Back in Black’ from Iron Man. Its their first album in eight years, since the release of Stiff Upper Lip in 2000, the longest gap between AC/DC’s studio albums to date. The album was produced by Brendan O’Brien. Anyway have fun listening to it!

“Rock ‘n Roll Train” was released on August 28. The video of “Rock ‘n Roll Train” appeared on the band’s website on September 19. That day also saw the release of another song (the b-side for rock n roll train), “War Machine”, and the release of a brief appraisal of the album by Rolling Stone magazine, citing that “Brian wails about skies on fire, blood in his eyes, storms raging, lightning flashes, hard rain and pretty women…Angus Young shreds throughout…Malcom Young, Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd — are solid as a rock.” as well as making a surprise statement that Angus Young uses a slide in the song “Stormy May Day”. The magazine also named several tracks before the official release of the track listing.

Several days after the original version of the album was made available for pre-order, the band’s website store listed two variations of cover artwork available for the CD in addition to the original red logo. These were a yellow logo and a silver logo. All three versions feature the exact same music and content with a black background. However, the gray designs behind the band’s logo are different on each of the two different covers. There is also a hardcover Deluxe Edition (blue logo) available which will contain a 30-page booklet with exclusive new illustrations, studio and live photographs of AC/DC.

Tracklist:
01. Rock N’ Roll Train
02. Skies On Fire
03. Big Jack
04. Anything Goes
05. War Machine

Diamond D - The Huge Hefner Chronicles

New LP from Diamond D. He was part of DITC back in the days. Worth checking out. Brought by C4, enjoy this.

Legendary Producer/MC/DJ Diamond D, constituent of the seminal collective D.I.T.C. (also included Fat Joe, Big L. & more), has signed a multi-album deal with renowned indie Babygrande Records. His inaugural release with the label will be October 14th’s “The Huge Hefner Chronicles,” Diamond’s third official release and first offering in 3+ years. Over the years, aside from independently releasing his subsequent two LP’s, Diamond has remained an active participant behind the boards, having contributed his trademark style to some of the most iconic records in hip-hop history including The Fugees’ “The Score,” A Tribe Called Quest’s “The Low End Theory,” as well as releases by Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch & many more.

With “The Huge Hefner Chronicles,” Diamond returns to form, with a record that recalls the nostalgic stylings of the “golden age,” while maintaining a contemporary sensibility accessible to the modern day hip-hop head. This duality of form is on full display on the first single from the forthcoming LP, entitled “D-I-A-M-O-N-D.” A vicious head-nodder, the track instantly explodes into a “golden-age” inflected beat, produced by none other than the infamous beat maestro Nottz (Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Scarface, J Dilla, Snoop Dogg & more). Diamond answers with the lyrical fluidity that only a vet of his stature can offer. “D-I-A-M-O-N-D” is the feel-good back-to-school jam that hits the sweet spot for both purists and modern day heads alike.
