Call of Cthulhu released !

Guys from Reloaded never sleep, so they released before 6 minutes another new game, “Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth“, weeks before official releases date, which is set to 27th March. This first-person horror mixture of action and adventure seems very interesting, so all horror fans should give it a try.

Call of Cthulhu — Dark Corners of the Earth is a first-person horror game that combines intense action and adventure elements. You will draw upon your skills in exploration, investigation, and combat while faced with the seemingly impossible task of battling evil incarnate.

You will have to keep your mental health in check as you are exposed to the increasingly shocking images of the Cthulhu Mythos. You will need to combat enemies using the environment, powerful and evil artifacts, Alien technology, or by fighting with weapons that are completely authentic for the period.

Set during the 1920s, Call of Cthulhu is based on the Cthulhu Mythos of HP Lovecraft, an American writer of fantasy and horror. Lovecraft’s stories tell of unthinkable evil, psychic possession, and mythical worlds and his work has profoundly influenced numerous fantasy and science fiction writers, including Stephen King and Anne Rice.

Features:

  • Diverse array of levels from quaint towns to alien locations, including Deep One City
  • Dynamic Sanity system resulting in hallucinations, panic attacks, vertigo, paranoia, and more!
  • Incredibly detailed real-time graphics with atmospheric lighting and dynamic shadows
  • Intelligent gameplay involving puzzle solving as well as combat and exploration
  • 1920s weaponry and vehicles as well as evil artifacts and alien technology
  • Lovecraft’s famous monsters and locations

Works fine, pretty good game. There are a few issues, such as some crappy level design and AI problems, but overall, I’m pretty impressed.

    @Jerry

Its pretty simple jerry you gotta get a program named Daemon tools and use it to open the image file you get when unpakking the game!

just downloaded this release.. the same video settings issue.. im disapointed.. waited for this game god_knows_how_much years

it seems rld guys gave us test/debug build..
i wonder how did they managed to get their hands on that..

sad thing about that is: its still a buggy version of the product, so dont expect much of it..

I am having this video setting issue as well, and other forums have the same amount of people asking for help, and no one seems to be offering. If anyone has a clue how to fix this, please let us know. I have updated my Nvidia drivers, and directx, I have tried using wmp9 and wmp10, and nothing seems to work. As far as I can tell, I meet the minimum requirements and then some, but my graphics card is not great, a gefroce 4 mx 440-SE (it sucks, perhaps that is the issue).
I, and many many others, would be VERY grateful to anyone who is willing to explain this issue to us once and for all. I do not claim any great computer skills, so perhaps this problem is just a lack of computer savy, but please help!

I also have this problem (failed to find a suitable..).
I have a geforce mx 4000. Maybe the problem is the mx processor! bad..so i’ll try with 3danalyzer, to emulate the pixel shader caps and other things that this directx 7 video card don’t support…

  18. boschiotto4
    May 5th, 2006 | 18:22

I try with 3danalyzer and, with these settings, the game don’t crash a startup:

-Select all the Hardware Linits cap (emulate HW TnL Caps..to emulate mx sim)

The problem is that the screen become all grey! (but the sound works..)

hi! i get this pop-up(conflict with the emulationprogram that runs. look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=emu&c=5000&l=sw) what is the problem? i get two different files when i unpack, one .mdf, and one that shows directly in the folder when i use daemon. some friends tells me i have to late version of daemon tools, but i downloaded 4.03 last night and it still doesn’t work! i have even tried to download 2 different cd’s, but nothing work! pls help!

  26. Zarathustra
    May 21st, 2006 | 13:55

If you have *.mdf-files then you dled a clone-release not the one from reloaded. Get either the fully cracked Reloaded-DVD-Image or just the crack from gamecopyworld. Alternatively check if your emulations in DT are all activated (DT>Emulations>All Options ON).
    Hope that helps

    Hi!
Struggling with the same shit (”failed to find…”).
I discovered, that U have to run 3d analyze with these settings:
    - force max. pixel shader (version 1.1 or 1.4 – doesn’t matter)
    - emulate max. sim. textures

If U do so U R able to get to the menu but once you’ll press New Game it crashes to the windows.

If U have any idea how to develope this “method” I’d be greatful!!

    Cheers and good luck!!

geforce 4 mx is not compatible with game.same with 2 mx.but i have ati radeon ve 7000,also old, and i have the same problem

  37. October 13th, 2006 | 18:40

Damned designers. They shouldn’t release a game incompatible with a common set of graphics cards. Just more proof of the evils of Xbox, this wasn’t a great deal more than a (very hastily done) port from that version. You’d think at the very least they could release a bloody patch to fix this.

    Dammit!!!
I’ve been looking forward to this game for so long, I bought it a few months ago and just now had some time to sit down and install it…
And it’s giving me the fraggin’ “unable to find a suitable video setting” message…
    GRRRR!

  42. SF
    January 12th, 2007 | 11:07

from all the above replies, this game requires pixel shader support.

geforce mx and radeon cards (really old ones) don’t support shaders. therefore you get that error.

try spending 50-100 bucks on a new video card or live with these limitations.

    January 12th, 2007 | 20:22

realy idiot designers they are kickin mx users what they what new card? bah i nwever think for this fucking game!

  44. SF
    January 13th, 2007 | 01:59

the technology in the mx/radeon cards is almost 6 years old now…

it really is time to upgrade.

and upgrading isn’t very expensive nowadays. unless that video chip is in your laptop, in which case you’re pretty much done for.

  45. budtske
    January 13th, 2007 | 03:17

I dont see why people with a geforce mx or radeon 7xxx/9200 are even trying to run this game…

even IF you got it to work, and good luck with that since the game itself only supports Directx 9 compatible cards (ie: not release related) the best your ever gonne get is probebly 5 frames per second

This game is not alone in this, the ATI drivers dont even support radeon 7xxx or 9200 cards anymore.

why? Because developers are starting to have to limit game and 3D engine capabilitys by supporting these 5 year old cards.

I dont see what the difference is between a new game supporting these old cards and running at UNPLAYABLE framerates then the game not supporting them at all

I guess I shouldn’t waste my time trying to run it with a S3G Unichrome IGP then… damn, I waited for this game for so long.
Anyway, there is where people at Bethesda are wrong:
I read these specs at the official page of the game: “a 32mb Direct 3D compatible graphics card and 128mb RAM”
but then, in the game’s read me file they wrote something completely different: “Video Card with 128MB Video RAM”
…A moron at the website made a typo that made me think my old PC could run the game and then I got it. They shouldn’t play with people’s feelings like that

I can get this to run, I have geforce4 Ti 4600, but the menu is all gray except for the cursor, and when I manage to start up the game the screen is comepletely black except for the rain. I can hear the sounds, and apparently my card is supported, but I cant see anything. Is there a fix for this? Or maybe some sort of emulator that will get it to run the way that I want?

Hi everybody, I was searching the web thinking I could find a way to run CoCDCoTE ’cause I have the same problem like you.

Yes, I saw the BIG STUPID requirement of 32Mb Video Card at the game’s web, and downloaded it inmediatly after a months wishing to play it, too bad, readme says 128Mb Video Ram….

so my PC could’nt runt, so I gave it a second chance on a Dell Inspiron 600m, wich has a ATI Radeon Mobility vCard with 64Mb vRam (technology from 5 years ago) and, IT RUNNED !!!!!
No errors , no low rates, awesome !

Anyway, the lap wasnt mine, so it didnt last long TT.
but it surprised me a lot, that laptop runned TRA better than my desktop PC XS

Well Im still trying with my Unichrome I stil have the hope of kill some deep ones.
    Help will be not denied.

Actually, budtske , you're wrong about people wanting to think they can run an old game with an older card because there -are- game designers skilled enough to make an elite game (definitely not this one) into a supportive build and STILL have unreal graphical potential with newer cards. Here's a big example of that, HALF LIFE 2??? I have a Geforce 4 Mx 420 and I ran HL2 at 20 – 58 fps and it didn't glitch/bug/fail because the designers kicked ass. It just left out some advanced graphics, -that's- it. It really depends on who makes the game and how devoted they are to making people happy with their product, so people.. don't listen to him. Sure, you may be disappointed at time s because of this, but it's not your fault, it's their's.

For old mx cards try swiftshader 2.0 to run the game (but slow frame rate)
just put the swiftshader files in the engine directory and all is ok ,i will let you all know if there’s away to increase frame rate
