CA makes a good product, a lot more resourceful than Norton or MacAffee junk.

With this suite, install products one at a time and test after each install to isolate any problems, sometimes you will have hangs or startup slowing down with some of the updating tools.

For teh most part, good software if you must run a full suite, if not go for AVG Free edition and Adaware.

We use CA products at work (mainly Unicenter DSM / RCO / USD / UAM). They were an industry joke for a long time but their products are workable now.

Worth a download? Nope, I wouldn’t say so.

The only bad thing about them, is their consoles are web based, therefor very slow to load and scan. Realtime settings are great though. Pest patrol cab get annoying to though.

CA Products are crap, nearly impossible to remove once installed. They leave behind all sorts of registry remnants, and folders scattered all over the place, mainly to do with registration. I would definitly not recommend them. Do a search for CA antivirus removal on Google, find loads of issues there.

CA’s anti virus is actually pretty damn good, mainly because it used to be VET anti-virus before CA bought it

been using CA anti-virus for about 2 years and was using VET anti-virus for years before that never had a single problem, or a single virus for that matter

so to anyone looking for a new anti-virus i recommend CA

CA never reaches the top 10 group in any category (AV, Antispam etc) so don’t bother.

It really comes down to Bit Defender, Kaspersky, Trend Micro (Enterprise) for AV solutions and Cloudmark for Antispam (though expensive).

Everything else is second place or worse. CA isn’t worth your time folks.

I used CA anti-virus for 3 years .. and i must say i`d recomend on using it .. but at a moment i got a virus for which CA didn`t had definition yet .. and i moved to nod32 since then.

CA, From my experiences and frustrations, i dont think CA AV is that good. My University uses it for all their computers, and it wouldn’t even detect viruses which was already on the network or infected usb memory sticks.

Nod32? Oh I didn’t mention them for one very good reason.

    NOD32 DOESN’T WORK!

Go ahead, flame away. But until you run an IT Outsourcing company with 25 clients, thousands of users and virtualize several servers with all different AV programs (Nod32, McAfee, Symantec, Bit Defender, kaspersky, Trend) scanning millions of files then STFU.

NOD32 2.7 constantly missed viruses that Trend, Bit Def and Kaspersky found.

The Latest NOD also is useless. So go ahead an praise all you want, in my experience NOD is junk and I have since completely dropped it along with Symantec corp. Worthless.

Actually you don’t need an AV if you just take a few precautions. I’ve been running without for a few weeks and my computer has never been faster. Fx + AdBlock + NoScript = safety.

I’ve used CA and I still use it on a couple of my machines. The AV and antispyware programs work excellent with my equipment but I do not like their firewall at all it’s a hog and it’s problematic. I use kaspersky on the 3 machines i use the most (when I’m not booted into linux)
But I had CA on my girlfriend’s machine, and her friend sent a virus to her by accident, the virus was stopped dead in it’s tracks before it could do anything by CA, the machine that it came from was rendered useless (running Norton)

I’ve tested many AV programs with a little malicious arsenal I have (for testing purposes only) and there were even a few viruses that Trend,CA,Kaspersky & bitdefender found that ESET Nod32 didn’t….

I think all that I mentioned are pretty good, none are 100% effective
I prefer Kaspersky but if you’re looking for an inexpensive alternative, CA anti-virus and antispyware are decent products

CA is “OK”, but their latest update (which i’m sure won’t matter…) crashed tons of computers at work (i’m a PC tech). I believe it was an issue with CA denying access to files or net -shrug- whatever. Mediacom (one of the ISPs in my area) provides it for free. So take that for what it’s worth.

@33 “..inexpensive alternative?” um… do you pay for your rlslog DLs? :P

i have tried allmost all AV,and since 3 months ago i installed avira premiun security suite and im happy with it.

nod dont detect the virus, kaspersky bsod my pc,norton resource eater(360 and internet security not that much)symantec slow updates,McAfee bloatware, fprot its ok,bitdefender sometimes just crash…i could keep going but i guess u all got it.

  36. some guy
    June 6th, 2008 | 01:04

@34 Of course not…If I DL something and I like it and I know that I’ll use it, I don’t mind buying it. Especially my security software. CA is cheaper than Kaspersky and Bitdefender (but when you have six machines it doesn’t hurt to find something that will extend the subscription).

The ppl are Agnitum are pissing me off seriously.. There firewall products are always incompatible with nod32, avg, and now kaspersky.

They say they work with the companies to fix the problems but that was like 2 years ago.. those fookers are a-holes and lazy.

I have tried some of their stuff before, bloated and didnt work the best

Also they are quick to cut off pirate versions/keys, had my copy de-activated very quickly

I know a guy who works for CA, they aren’t a great company..

I especially hated their firewall, glad I have a router now so no need

What do u guys think of AVAST? At least its free/no cracking..

PC Pro Magazine / Website did a thorough test of 12 different Security Suites. The results were that the joint 1st place winners were Kaspersky Internet Security 7 and ESET Smart Security (NOD32), both receiving 5 stars. Both scored the same results in their malware-detection, website-exploit and firewall tests.

I personally use ESET Smart Security as it is very reliable and is extremely low on System resources.

Kaspersky, whilst it is also an excellent Security Solution, its RAM footprint is among the largest tested. There’s also a known bug in Vista, exposed by Kaspersky’s routines, that can cause out-of-memory errors when copying large numbers of files.

Really? i got 4 viruses found by Trend, Bit Defender and Kaspersky that NOD32 still cannot detect. They have been submitted with ZERO reply from NOD32 support.

NOD32 is just an average AV. Its very fast, but inaccurate, and its real time virus detection is spotty at best.

Use BD, Kas or Trend and don’t bother with anything else my friends.

  49. Bolverk
    June 6th, 2008 | 20:02

Computer Associates (CA) make good software such as DNA and the likes, but their antivirus is rubbish so i don’t know what you fools are on about. Virus Bulletin found CA’s VET antivirus a 70.58% success ratio and CA eTrust only 73.91%.

So regardless of what these fools were telling you DON’T bother with their Antivirus. You want a good Antivirus use Eset Nod32 they have the highest success ratio at 96.07% affective. Norton is the next highest ranking, but norton will take over your compute and is basically a virus itself, stay away from it also.

  50. Bolverk
    June 6th, 2008 | 20:14

And how did three seperate virus programs find four virii?

    1) Your computer will generally freeze and not function correctly with more than one antivirus on your computer. How and why are you running three.

    2) If all of these programs found these virii that would mean that none of them removed it if it was still present to be found by the next antivirus. So either all the programs are useless or you are obviously talking out your ass.

    2) Trend micro has alot slower real-time heuristics than nod32 so you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about in that regard.

    3) Nod32 are useless at responding to correspondance i will give you that as i am a reseller. But it’s not uncommon for them to release two or more virus definition updates in ONE DAY! I would much rather that they spend their time reverse engineering a virus as it’s discovered than replying to emails from fools like yourself that have gotten infected looking at porn.

I remove virus for a living and have been doing it for a long time. I have tried, and continue to try every antivirus on the market. Nod32 is currently the best. FULL STOP. Kap is getting alot better but still nowhere near the mark.
