For those looking for a lightweight Nero alternative, you HAVE to use ImgBurn. I just installed it and I am absolutely amazed. The best thing about it is that it’s freeware!

Ohh love the bloatware-less haha, seems that really Nero / Roxio and these companies are far behind with technology with their CD/DVD burning software! they need to do something simple / light on CPU (major issue) and ease of use!

    Thanks Christian

@9 Curse, The result could be a false positive but if it’s real I doubt the malware is going to buy you a cup of tea and compliment your dress sense, i.e of course it’s likely to be dangerous.

This IMGBurn everyone is talking about, can you burn single files and multisession etc with it or is it just for crating/burning entire images?

    June 4th, 2008 | 00:01

indeed. imgburn does have buffer, and burns individual files, dvds, now even from cue files. test it, media is cheap to test whatever you want.

ImgBurn can only burn images. Heck, the filename says it all ;)
I used Nero Micro (hellovasmall version) until now, unfortunately it’s not portable ;) Will try this out, maybe I can make it fully portable… AFAIK it doesn’t use its own drivers.

How does this compare to Nero 8 Lite/Micro?

  43. ImgBurn beta tester
    June 4th, 2008 | 13:23

@34: Software like ner0 or ImgBurn have nothing to do with the quality of your burn. That’s controlled by your media, your drive and the firmware your drive uses. All the software does is issue a set of commands to the drive. It’s up to the drive to carry out those commands and report back to the software when the task is complete or if there’s a problem like a read/write error. ImgBurn uses “byte by byte” comparisons between the source and target files and also performs a readability test on the media after burning during the verification process. ner0 doesn’t.

@39: If ImgBurn only burns images, what the hell is the build mode for? Or the calculator? Or the EZ mode picker? Please get your facts straight.

All in All it seem to be a pretty easy and straight forward little Program, at just 12 million Bytes,
which is actually small compared to most Programs today
It kept a pretty consistant 7.3x average burn
Total time was 8:38 for finalizing
Their are a few ticks that U can change,in the Preferences, myself I always change the burn speed.
As I don’t like to burn over 6 to 8x, any thing faster I’ve had problems with bad sectors
As with most Burning programs U have to open the VIDEO_TS folder and drag all the files in, with BurnAway
U have to use the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders, just drag the whole thing in. Which is a lot simpler
I ran the Disc through DVDINFPRO, it showed a good burn
It played good in my DVD Player
Next I’ll try the DATA for my AVIs

IMGBURN is great for DVDs, but not for AVIs. You need a DATA Disc 4 these

  46. rick5446
    June 4th, 2008 | 20:20

    DATA DVD (AVI Series)
Started burning at 5.4x & peeked to 6x which made for a good burn
Total time for 4.36 Gig was 10:40 with finalizing W/average speed of 5.9
All played well in my DivX Players

Audio CD Average write speed 11.5x on a CD-RW. 11 average 1 10min MP3s converted to CDA, Very good job
    Total time 9:00
Don’t really have more to say other then this is an Excellent liitle Program. I’m definetly going to use
it. One of the simplest I’ve used

  47. rick5446
    July 7th, 2008 | 21:27

I’ve used this its an excellent product. But if U use a lot of DVD+Rs, I would not recommend using as it does not BOOKTYPE(Bitset) it leaves + DVDs as + DVDs. Other wise it does a good job
Nero is your best bet for bit setting DVD+ to DVD Rom
