Huang Chuncai lives in Daqui Village, in the Hunan Province of China. Huange suffers from Neurofibromatosis, which causes a large tumour to grow on his face. In January 2008, he underwent a second operation to remove another 9.9 lb (4.5 kg) of tumor from his face. A previous operation removed 33 pounds (15 kg) from what was originally a 55.7 lb (23 kg) tumor. This is the story of China’s Elephant Man. i think the most disturbing thing about this documentary is when the village slaughters a pig. They just prop it on a cart and plunge a dagger into its neck and the blood drips out into a pan. Then the pig screams in pain as its lifeblood spills out.

I saw this several months ago on English tv. Sad to see him unable to look after his family. The documentary is very well made. If I remember right he was working as part of a freak show with other disfigured friends of his. Great to see him getting the help he needs. A little disturbing however.

I love the way they take advantage of his condition to make a nice documentary. Beautiful money-making scheme, cause they probably play sad music and act melancholy, while counting the money they’re making in their heads.

Perhaps this is an outcry aimed at pressuring the viewer into sympathy to the point they will donate money to some cause to help prevent this from happening to people or help people with this condition get treatment.

A few weeks ago in France, a woman afflicted with a similar case made all tv news and papers because she went to court asking for legal assistance to die as she was sliving with atrocious pain (euthanasia still not legal there (unlike Switzerland , Belgium or Netherlands), giving the government a chance to finally start thinking about the problem (to hopefully later change the laws), and they just completely ignored the problem.
The day after court rules against this legal help, she killed herserlf…

This is a little taste of light entertainment in England, we freakin’ love it. The massively fat, giant tumors, exotic and painful diseases, whatever, as long as it looks horrifying we go wild!
The more cynical could call this mass surge of suffering exploitative, they may say it panders to the basest voyeuristic tendencies, they may liken it to driving slowly past a car crash to get a good look.
Well I say fu*k them! I want to see blood and viscera as this guys face gets cut off and then I want to be in awe of the results or at the very least pity the fool in his dyeing days as if I cared all along. Hell, maybe the freak will say a few prophetic things and then I can feel as if I have watched the passing of some great messiah, burdened with the evils of the world, sent here to teach the masses a lesson.
To all those chastising others for being derogatory, I feel for you. When I was young I was a sensitive soul. I expected life to be fair, for people to be compassionate, when they weren’t, even if not in relation to me I would feel personally violated, like someone had stepped beyond a line of human decency. Then I grew up, bad things happened, I saw horror, blah blah blah.
Now my skin is pretty thick and the suffering of others is just another drop in the ocean. If I could not laugh at all the crap that happens to people I think I would slit my wrists.
