Releaselog

Bloody ad companies, adult ads removed

I have absolutely no idea which idiot went nuts in the ad company who provides ads for Releaselog, but for some reason they started to show adult ads instead of normal, safe for work banners. Many of you noticed this and shared this experience in the comments of latest posts, and that’s how I noticed it today when I woke up. Needless to say, I immediatelly disabled this crap and I’m really sorry, although it’s absolutely not my fault. This will never happen again, I terminated cooperation with that company as we speak.

You know what they say… Sex sells, so it brings ca$h to da pocket. Ad companies do not care about customers satisfaction, but plain hard rock solid monies for every click, view, visitor. And that made sense if it worked, but I can hardly imagine anyone clicking an adult ad in order to ‘cam-chat’ with that one girl’s thumbnail who is obviously not the person YOU will be talking with, lol, but I haven’t tried it either, so I might be wrong like hell. O well, isn’t it possible to narrow the income to donations only, or is the advertising pretty lucrative business? ;) Anyways, I only wanted to compliment you making good descissions.

can you also stop whichever add pops up that annoying popup, if I close the popup an alert shows up. If I press cancel it sends me to a website. If I press ok it sends me to the same website. That’s the most irritating rlslog add I’ve seen so far.

    November 4th, 2007 | 13:14

Maybe adult ads showed up after you posted all those naked stuff releases. Ads code searches for relevant keywords.

And as for blocking ads, usually ads pay the server cost and in this case they’re not that annoying, so I think removing them is stupid.

  26. cat
    November 4th, 2007 | 13:18

Just don’t post cr_p related to adult contents.

    November 4th, 2007 | 13:22

    It was bound to happen.
If you post porn you will get porn ads….

just remove the porn posts and the porn ads will go away.
terminating your cooperation with the ad company is not the correct solution.

nearmint: if you say this regarding to this 468×60 banner, then you are a real jerk. this banner is there since the beginning of the site and the only reason is that by every click, we donate some money to these organizations fighting against cancer and similar deseases.

kinda of funny how mr.x has being posting adult porn, those adds you were talking about, seems fishy to me?

  35. none
    November 4th, 2007 | 14:04

So shortly after you start posting porn releases, you start getting porn ads. It’s hardly coincidence is it? They’re context sensitive. Stop the porn posts and the porn ads will gi with it.

To the firefox fanboys posting about adblock: shut the f_ck up!

  45. Jack
    November 4th, 2007 | 14:42

I know that the ads are somewhat compatible to the site’s content, and recently Rlslog.com started posting about naked women and the like. Don’t you think such keywords as ‘naked’ or ’stripper’ would bring those ads into your site?

  46. blunden
    November 4th, 2007 | 14:59

To people posting about adblock: Sure you can install adblock on your own computer, but that is not the point. The point is that you may be somewhere where you use a computer where you don’t have privilages to install anything, but still want to browse the site.

@Martin: What is that ad that is so increadably low res? I’ve always wondered what it was about since it was almost impossible to make out the picture (that blue one). Just thought it was funny. :)

I use AdBlock, because one day I was fed up of all the jumping and distracting crap on all sites I used to go – they pushed it too much on me, and rlslog.net has a nasty ad source too: full page advertising when I clicked to read comments, this is when you went too far, supporting redcross, amnesty international and alike or anti cancer is fine with me, but full page ads instead reading coments, no.

Sorry not seeing all those ads, and nacked people …

i use adblocker and all that on my linux box, but when i check the site from windows its just crazy. last night the redirect script or whatever kept taking me to a page that wanted me to ok a system scan and install etc… wtf is all that about? any regular add you guys have here i dont block and i click often and sometime buy stuff if its a legit add and good price. now i feel like i have to block every single add and script, especially when im on windows.

The rest actually enjoy the p.0rn ads…

  54. GoldenX
    November 4th, 2007 | 15:58

hey if it really decreases the revenue generated by those ads (I know it is needed to keep the site up and running, with server/hosting costs nowadays) I really don’t mind if they are still on.

But I guess it reflects on your principles if you choose to be clean rather than be generating ads but with p0rn. :)

  64. PG
    November 4th, 2007 | 17:01

Stop with the browser wars, people! – Anything but MSIE will do just fine, thanks! :)

Both Opera and Firefox with ABP and NoScript work just fine in returning the web to the content and the users.

There wouldn’t be much of a market for popup-blockers and ad-removal tool if it wasn’t for the greedy innovativeness of the ad companies. A simple inline ad with a slogan, a catch-phrase or a logo wouldn’t offend anybody, but then came animated ads (always jumping or flashing most annoyingly), popups, popunders, circle-jerk scripting (closing one ad either opens a new one or redirects your browser to another page, usually with more of the same) and DHTML-based full page ads that slide in front of content and sits there for several seconds before sliding away and only then allows the visitor to see the page he/she just loaded. It’s just too much and one needs to employ ad-countermeasures in order to restore a bit of usefullness to the websurfing experience.

I have never seen the ads here (ABP is very efficient in cleaning all ads away, and even clever scripting gets zapped by NoScript) so I cannot comment on the topics advertised, but it clearly shouldn’t be nessessary to carry adult ads. If the ad provider don’t realize that then it’s bye-bye to that provider. Good move, Martin!

Honestly, the porn adds didnt bother me nearly as much as these fairly new adds that are taking you to this site for a “system clean” and to install this supposed software, which is almost guaranteed spyware, etc. Please do something about this problem asap as i am almost considering staying away from this site until it is fixed…

  73. .Truth
    November 4th, 2007 | 18:46

I honestly didn’t even notice that this site HAD ads in the first place, until I read the comments on some of Mr.X’s posts. So I disabled AdBlock, and what do you know, porn ads! I’m pretty sure the porn ads have something to do with the aAF stuff that Mr.X has been posting, but I can’t really blame him. Let’s just hope these annoying ads go away, and only ads that are for a good cause appear.

  74. swingin' d!ck
    November 4th, 2007 | 18:48

yeah, those drivecleaner/winantiviruspro ads are virtumonde infections. once i made the mistake of surfing this site on an unpatched win box with an unpatched ie6. the cr4pware installed itself without any user input on my part. lesson learned. never visit this site from a windows machine, unless using firefox w/ noscript and adblock plus. and considering the staff’s silence on the issue, i guess getting rid of the trojan installing ads is out of the question.

I can’t believe the difference in response from Martin to Mr. X relating to this issue.

Martin listens to the readers comments and acts upon their complaint. However, Mr. X reads the comments and decides they all need to be purged and then locks the comments to prevent any more complaints.

I’d say that certainly shows level of responsibility that one has over the other.

I hate ads, and won’t ever support them. They corrupt the content, are annoying, and serve only goal: trick people into buying.

Someone should develop software that makes users into servers, so there’s no need for an expensive central server. Now that’s something I would support. Not sure if that’s feasible, though, but it would kick ass if it worked. With consumer hard-drives becoming bigger and bigger and broadband slowly becoming wider, it might be possible one day.
