BlizzCon news: Diablo 3, Starcaft 2 trilogy
Over the weekend, Blizzard’s annual “BlizzCon” convention came and went with much spectacle and delight for fans. Attendees enjoyed hands on time with the company’s vast roster of upcoming software, as well as the cultural trimmings of singing Tauren and inside jokes involving Murlocs. Two big announcements came out of the event, though, as Blizzard revealed a new class for Diablo 3 and a trilogy of titles under the StarCraft II umbrella. Joining the Barbarian and the Witch Doctor in Diablo 3 will be the Wizard, a magic-focused class. Demos proved to be carnage-filled with only four players playing Wizards, but just fantasizing about eight Wizards playing simultaneously—that’s the number Blizzard is shooting for player-wise for the game—is tantalizing.

On the StarCraft II front, Blizzard revealed that the single player portion of the game would be broken up into three separate products, one for each of the factions: Wings of Liberty for the Terrans, Heart of the Swarm for the Zerg, and Legacy of the Void for the Protoss. Each campaign is said to have around 35 missions and all will end with the same ending, offering three distinct looks at what sounds like one over-arching story. This was a big year for BlizzCon: the company had a plethora of content to show, with Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 joining Wrath of the Lich King in the company’s expansive roster of software. More information about the reveals, as well as screenshots and videos, can be found on Blizzard’s official BlizzCon web site.

..nice cant wait to play..diablo my dream come true!!!
Yes indeed, i cant wait
go go go
Speaking of which, I don’t suppose there was a rip of the Direct TV PPV coverage any where?
Great…there goes another 10 years of my life.
and still no word about the release date of SC2 which was announced nearly 18 months ago…

@6 Bill:
AGREED! Been watching stupid little videos of units and vehicles for a year and a half now. Got my money in my hot little hand, just waiting on you Blizzard…
I’m with you Socrates.
Though noone makes games as good as blizzard. Let’s just hope it’s not another 10 years before they actually release any of these.
I’m also looking for the Direct TV that #4 is talking about.
i am excited for this game, but seriously i wouldn’t be shocked if they announced the release for x-mas 09 and released in jan. 2010 after they get a bunch of preorders
@ 6 & 8
I thought they said there were releasing it in early December/late November…
well for some reason i got this set time in my head that both d3 and sc are coming in spring , probably d3 later than sc2
splitting sc2 into 3 means one thing . release is close and they dont want to delay too much..
i want far cry 2 now
yeah i want farcry 2 also, and fallout 3, and x3 tC,left 4 dead, dead space …. lucky it’s all for freeeeeee…
Hmm yeah they’ll probably have you paying full price for all of the campaigns :/
yay stupid move on sc2, cant believe this BS.
wont pay for that, ofc
@16: Atm it’s announced as a full price game for the 1st one and “we will see how it does” for the 2 others, prolly 1 year between each game… >.<
i would sell my soul for a donut .. erm.. i mean starcraft
#15 quit being cheap jerk and buy one of the
games and support the people who work hard.
diablo 3!!!!!!!!!support it.
@7 FAKE
no demos dir at fileplanet under diablo 3 .
dont try to dl could be something nasty.
Support the game, flame blizzard >;)
$150 for 3 Starcraft games? No thanks. I’ll buy one and pirate the other 2.
SACRED 2 is out on release!
this game shouldn’t launch until everyone has a core duo and 8800gt pc….
@13 smikis
Blizzard went on record saying that D3 is coming before SC2, ’cause there’s more guys working on it.
I’m pissed about them releasing SC2 in three packages. It’s one thing to release expansions. I’m cool with that. But to say “hey, we’re gonna release three versions of SC2… and they’re kind of expansions… but not really… because each one is basically the campaign is of that race… plus some bug fixes and balance stuff that we’re gonna do anyways… so… yeah… buy ‘em”.
As much as I want to play SC2… that right there makes me not want to support Blizzard ever again. It just doesn’t feel like it’s a time thing as much as Activision wants to make some money, so they’re forcing them to release SC2 ahead of schedule, and this is the only way they could feasibly see themselves being able to do that. I mean let’s face it. This is the company that took 10 years to do a sequel to what I would consider its most popular game.
Besides… if they need money that bad… there’s this little game called World of Warcraft… maybe you’ve heard of it? I think that has some sort of money in it.
@21 Atari
If it’s not either:
a) Each game will be ~$20
b) Each campaign will be huge
then it’s something to be unhappy about.
Anyway, I think I’m looking forward to D3 more than SC2 at this point. So I’ll get that and click click click click.
@ 20 (Zloduh):
It’s not fake actually. It’s a “demo” as in a straight-up “demonstration” of the gameplay. It’s a video, probably the same 19 min one that everyone has seen of the new characters and stuff. If you take the time to read the page completely, it even says “This is just a HD vid of the demo game of Diablo 3 being played.”
What is so bad in having 3 games of Starcraft 2 instead of just 1? At least when I finish the first I’ll be happy to have more to play. Actually, I’m salivating for the whole deal!
135€ for a game (SCII trilogy) erm no thnx. ill rather DL this one XD and put my money on RA3
@26
When you actually get 3 full games that’s ok, if they just took one full game and split it in 3 pieces to get more money of you that just sucks and seems like a rip-off. Generally I’d pay for a good game.
Does anyone know where you can find a rip of the DirectTV PPV coverage?
