Black Sheep LIMITED WORKPRINT XViD-mVs

Guys from mVs released a little special release few moments ago: a workprint of Black Sheep. Now both parts are interesting: the movie and also the release. I’ll start with the movie - it’s a crazy comedy mixed with some horror elements filmed by crew from New Zealand. You can see all the cheap effects and jokes everywhere in the movie, but it’s so well made it will possible make you laugh. Then, a workprint. People usually imagine something terrible, missing important parts of the movie, but this is not the case. There’re no watermarks on the image, the quality is high for such a release, and all seem to be just fine. Despite not being an AAA title, Black Sheep may be a nice film to watch, especially if you consider it goes to cinemas not until next month.

A genetic engineering experiment gone horribly awry turns a large flock of docile sheep into unrelenting killing machines in this rural horror comedy directed by Jonathan King and featuring special effects designed by Weta Workshop. When the death of his father and a stress-induced fear of sheep pushes him toward the edge of a nervous breakdown, skilled farmer Henry Oldfield leaves the family farm behind in a desperate bid to achieve inner peace.

Upon returning to the farm following a 15-year absence, Henry discovers that his brother Angus has been performing genetic experiments on the sheep. Unfortunately for both the brothers and the rest of the humble farmers who make their living off of the land, these experiments have produced a strain of sheep that crave human flesh and will stop at nothing to satisfy their diabolical hunger.

Tis a fantastic movie, the guys that made this were inspired by the early Peter Jackson movies, namely BadTaste & Brain Dead. Part horror, part humour, 100% Kiwi. Well worth seeing if you have that slight ‘I like a sick joke’ attitude.

  4. May 15th, 2007 | 20:00

Heard about this one before and saw the trailer, I have to admit, it looks hilarious… “The curse of the killersheep!”. Wouldn’t that just ask for atleast 6 sequels? Just think about it… “Killersheep from the grave”, “The killersheep empire strikes again”, “2Fast2Kill-a-sheep”, “Bad killersheep”, “Honey, I am a killersheep”, “Killersheep - The beginning”… lol, Im just joking. With these kind of movies there are only two options: either you love it, or you just hate it. I havent made up my mind yet, have you?

    @anus
He said the quality is high for this kind of release. Usually, workprints are much more smudgy and have watermarks or a timestamp on the bottom.

Joyfield, the trailer was already included in the post-details. Besides, the best quality trailers come from apple.com/trailers where you, most times, are even allowed to set SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE fileformat or even HD-quality. Neways, glad youre trying to help out there… Silence of the lambs right :D

from a personal point of view I can tell that I have NEVER (honestly not a single time) liked a movie from Australia, given that New Zealand is their neighbour I will pass this movie without having any doubt! I’m from Ukraine originally (lived in Russia and now in Scotland) and Aussie comedies seem so bad that I can’t even finish watching the movie. Maybe some Russian or Ukrainian dude will read tis and I’ll save his/hers time downloading the movie

  16. May 15th, 2007 | 22:43

I bet the chris farley movie by the same name is better.

I actually heard about this film in college when this english Yorkshire sheep-shagger told me he was looking forward to it being released. The film itself is shit, most of the jokes are about Australian sheep-shaggers and how pathetically arrogant and racist the poms are from a New-Zealand view.

Im so embrassed as a new zealander when we have to restort to using sheep to make a movie. The guy in the picture you see is Oliver Driver, who is also a radio host on newstalk zb in wellington, and has hosted a arts program called frontseat which revews the arts scene, on books, theatre, painters, actors etc.Hes cameo in other movies and has a wealth of experience in local theatre plays in wellington.Hes a very nice guy as ive spoken to him on talkback radio.

    fish
A strange way of deciding whether to watch a movie or not…..
    Aussie movies = crap…

    NZealand = near Aussie geographically..

    therefore NZ movies = crap!!

thats like me saying all Ukrainians have bad skin or all ukrainians will be poisoned
    clearly it doesnt make sense…

remember The lord of The Rings trilogy?? NZ made..

  22. May 16th, 2007 | 02:11

f1sh - your logic is beyond comprehension, lets swing it around a bit:

Austria make crap cars, therefore German cars being made in the country next door must also be crap. Guess someone needs to talk to the engineers at Audi, Volkswagen & Mercedes and say “Hey dudes you guys are shit, just like Austrians”.

Have had a quick skim over the quality of this release and would give it about 7.5/10 compared to the cinema release (yes have seen this on a big screen, the NZ release was last month). Sound Quality is also pretty good.

Other NZ movies to add to the mix: King Kong, Narnia, Heavenly Creatures, etc.

    @ Bob
You’re a sad pathetic cunt. To answer your question ‘Why post a shit movie?’ - because he wanted to! Its not YOUR site is it?! It’s not a shit movie anyway, only by your standards which mean fuck all to anybody. So, please keep your insulting, adolescent comments to your frankly pathetic self.

Don’t pay attention to him, this is a well run site & I for one am glad that you review these ‘minor’ releases, B-movies & such. I DO think that you’re review of this release was slightly wrong on the quality front, but still, it’s watchable. Great, fun film!

Though the practice of freezing food has been traced to 1626, Birds Eye began to take shape in the early 1920s when Clarence Birdseye noticed that the fish he caught while on a trip near the Arctic quickly froze. Later, when thawed, the fish tasted as fresh as if he had just caught them. From that observation history was made.

Clarence had discovered the basis for an entirely new type of freezing operation that today allows you and your family to enjoy the freshest, healthiest vegetables available.
    A BIRDS EYE TIMELINE
1886 Clarence Birdseye is born on December 9 in Brooklyn, New York.
1912-1915 Working as a field naturalist for the United States government near the Arctic Circle, Clarence notices that freshly caught fish, frozen in snow in the sub-zero winds, retain their full qualities of freshness upon thawing and eating.
1922 Birdseye conducts experiments at the Clothel Refrigerating Company, cooling fish to the freezing point by circulating air at low temperature. He then organizes his own company, Birdseye Seafoods Inc., and begins processing chilled fish fillets.
1924 Consumer disinterest in the frozen fish forces Birdseye to file for bankruptcy. Undaunted, Birdseye develops a new process that later would become his great contribution to the art of quick freezing: pack dressed fish or other food in cartons, then freeze the contents between two flat, refrigerated surfaces under pressure. To promote his invention, Birdseye organizes a new company, General Seafood Corporation.
1925 General Seafood Corporation moves to Gloucester, Massachusetts, with Birdseye’s latest invention: the double belt freezer. It consists of two long belts of stainless steel, one slightly above the other. Cold brine is sprayed beneath the lower belt and above the upper belt; the packages moving between the belts freeze immediately. This invention marks the beginning of the frozen foods industry.
1927 Having processed almost one million pounds of frozen fish, Birdseye explores the possibilities of quick-freezing meat, poultry, fruit, and vegetables.
1929 Birdseye and his partners sell General Seafood Corporation to the Postum Company, which later changes its name to General Foods Corporation. Birdseye relinquishes all patents related to his quick-freezing process and remains head of Research and Development, under the divisional canopy of Birds Eye Frosted Foods.
1930 Birdseye freezer caseOn March 6 in Springfield, Massachusetts, General Foods, via Birds Eye, conducts what is now called “the Springfield Experiment” in 18 retail stores to see how consumers will react to frozen foods; today, the experiment is considered the birth of retail frozen foods. The initial Birds Eye line features 26 items, including 18 cuts of frozen meat, spinach and peas, a variety of fruits and berries, blue point oysters and fish fillets. By May, sales increase dramatically.
1934 Due to inadequate retail distribution facilities, only 10 percent of Birds Eye sales are retail. A breakthrough comes when Birds Eye contracts with the American Radiator Corporation to manufacture inexpensive, low-temperature, retail display cooling equipment.
1940 Birds Eye places the first full-color advertisement for frozen food in Life magazine.
1944 Birds Eye leases the first insulated railroad cars designed for nationwide food distribution, and the refrigerated shipping industry is born.
1950s Birds Eye and General Foods are sponsors of “Our Miss Brooks,” one of television’s most popular shows.
    1956 Clarence Birdseye dies.
1950s-1960s Birds Eye Frosted Foods undergoes consolidation, reducing its number of warehouses from hundreds to only three dozen nationwide. Dozens of processing plants are closed, including the original plant in Gloucester.
1964 First international Birds Eye plant opens in Celaya, Mexico, an area considered to be a future source of broccoli and cauliflower. No detail is overlooked in building a processing facility and vertically integrated horticultural practices meeting the same standards as in the USA.
1970s-1980s Birds Eye is the first to introduce frozen vegetables and sauce to which meat is added and the first to introduce foil overwraps on boxed vegetables, which hold moisture 10 times better than waxed paper.
1983 Philip Morris purchases General Foods.
1986 Philip Morris purchases Kraft Foods. Birds Eye remains a division of the new parent company, Kraft General Foods.
1993 Birds Eye is sold to Dean Foods Vegetable Company (DFVC).
1998 Birds Eye® introduces the first complete bagged meal - Voila! Agrilink Foods acquires DFVC and the Birds Eye® brand.
2003 Agrilink Foods changes its name to Birds Eye Foods to reflect the company’s largest brand.
2004 Birds Eye® repositions itself and introduces a new packaging look across the line and kicks off Public Relations campaign. Birds Eye® introduces new Reduced Carb Naturally Complete Delicious Meals under the Voila! Line.

It is almost impossible to believe that The Black Sheep Brewery is only 14 years old.

In fact it was in October 1992 when our beers first made an appearance in pubs in and around the Yorkshire Dales. The delivery of those first casks of beer all those years ago began a new era for Paul Theakston, whose family has brewed in Masham for six generations.

It also allowed him to put behind him the heartache left by the often acrimonious battles that culminated in the “old” family firm of T & R Theakston Ltd ending up at the time as part of Scottish & Newcastle Breweries.

    Paul Theakston with a sheep

The events that led to the loss of independence of the Theakston brewery had rumbled on since the early 1970s, with Scottish & Newcastle finally seizing power in 1987. Although offered a position in the big company, Paul decided that that style of life wasn’t for him. What’s more, it would have meant him leaving his beloved Masham.

Determined to stay in Masham and being a long, long way from retirement (both age-wise and financially!!) it didn’t take long for Paul to conclude that small brewery life was what he wanted.

I would suppose that culture of New Zealand and Australia is similar, thats how I make my conclusions. I can see similarities from Russia and Ukraine - neighbouring countries, and if some shoit is produced in 1 country it is VERY likely that shit will be produced in another country.

So surfer and spigalau, I make my own conclusions about what is shit and what is not. I am most certain that humour is very similar in Australia and New Zeraland, and Australian humour is utter shite so fuck this movie.

Jeez… Normly don’t post on these but the comments here just forced me to…
Firstly can I say thx to rlslog your website is hugely apreciated. Keep up the good works fellas.
Secondly.. The quality of this film… Thought (for a freebie) it’s bloody good far far better than a TS. To those complaining about the lack of background music… IT’S A WORKPRINT NOT A DVDSCR !!!
    Thirdly… Keith - You musta watched a different movie or I’ve missed those Aussie sheep-shagger (It’s a NZ film ?) or anti-pom gags…
Finally… F1sh - It’s a kiwi movie not an Aussie one… If you’ve seen and like Shaun of The Dead you might like this. Kiwi humour is a lot closer to british humour than Aussie…

Not a great movie but well worth it to pass a coupla hours…
    Quality - 7
    Film itself - 6.5
