Black Book 2006 Limited DVDRiP XViD-DvF

Group DVF finally released a dvdrip of Dutch thriller Black Book (Zwartboek in original). This is one of the most expensive movies ever made in Holland and it honestly deserves your attention. The quality of this release is perfect, because it was published on 2 CDs with AC3 sound and high video bitrate. I’m definitely getting this one, not only because I like all WW2 movies. You should check it too…

Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven made his name in Hollywood with films such as ROBOCOP, BASIC INSTINCT, and STARSHIP TROOPERS. But Verhoeven got his start in the industry by making films (the acclaimed SPETTERS and SOLDIER OF ORANGE among them) in his native country, and it’s to Holland that he returns for BLACK BOOK–his first Dutch film in 20 years. The story is set during the final days of World War II in Holland, and follows a Jewish singer named Rachel Stein (Carice Van Houten). Rachel attempts to avoid the Nazis and remains in quiet hiding until her family is brutally slain, causing her to join up with a resistance movement. On a subsequent undercover mission, Rachel crosses paths with a smitten German general named Ludwig Muntze (Sebastian Koch), with whom Rachel begins a relationship in order to feed vital information back to her colleagues in the resistance. But as the action and bloodshed escalate, Rachel realizes that she has genuine feelings for Muntze, and soon she is in enormous danger.

Verhoeven’s film is wildly ambitious and takes many intriguing twists and turns during its 145 minutes. BLACK BOOK commanded the largest budget of any film to be produced in Holland, and it shows. Explosions litter the screen, there are plenty of car chases ensue, and wince-inducing injuries and deaths propel the action. The director isn’t afraid to criticize his fellow countrymen and inserts a fascinating subtext about the actions of the resistance fighters, asking some uncomfortable questions about the similarities between their behavior and that of the Nazis. Van Houten lights up the screen throughout and is surely destined for bigger things, and while the tumultuous experiences her character undergoes might push the boundaries of reality at times, Verhoeven has pointed out in interviews that Rachel is a composite character who encompasses the merged experiences of many real people from the era.

check NFO and it came out grabbled. IMDB came back that there are several languages listed but it’s probably in Dutch with subtitles. Movie sound great and a reminder of what it was like less than 80 years ago.

The language is interesting, and it has its similarities with my language (swedish). In swedish the movie title would be “Svartbok”, directly translated. It would probably be changed to “Den Svarta Boken” (The Black Book).

for Hoogarden and Nascent releases are already there :
DVF release subs should follow soon :)

  20. April 26th, 2007 | 16:15

@ Elgringo, if you had bothered to look at the files you are downloading, you would see that you are downloading English subtitles (and polish). The NFO clearly states that, and there is a idx and a sub file in the torrent (bl.boo-subs-dvf.rar)

@ amperage, it looks like they are doing a site change, or something. My ratio is good there, and the error messages are different now. So i guess they either are doing some work, or they have a small problem :) (I hope so since not all of my ftp’s have all the movies I want)

Even though the movie is not in English. Seen the trailer and it still looks too good to miss. Can’t wait to watch it.

  23. April 26th, 2007 | 17:17

Paul Verhoeven, the guy who made this movie was born
    18 July 1938, Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands.

    That is not Belgium….

The company that made it is Fu Works, and that is from Netherlands. It is true that they got some Belgian investors…
but it is still a Dutch film……

  24. robert
    April 26th, 2007 | 17:17

Zoeloe mate. I think you have a problem. We don’t compare Holland with Belgium.
This movie is directed by Paul Verhoeven borned in Amsterdam in 1938. I think even in those times Amsterdam was still dutch like it is now.
The filming locations are stated on imdb Zwartboek website and do not include Belgium.
The only Belgium involvment in this movie is on production side among other countries: Germany and UK.
But this is a Holland film.

  25. April 26th, 2007 | 17:55

    Quality post for quality film.
I have been waiting long for this.

I invited Paul Verhoeven to some screening I was organizing in Amsterdam couple of years ago.
He was working on this film. P. Verhoeven is a very open man. He was very kind and accepted the invitation. Unfortunately he suffered a heart attack and wasn;t able to show up.

I couldn’t see in at the movies :( So ill watch this before buying the DVD :P

  26. April 26th, 2007 | 18:06

    schließlich!

think you mean scheiße! my grandfater came to Sweden from Germany… fuck these movies that always portrays the Germans as the bad guy….then jews are victims.. bulshit…cry me a fucking river.

  27. Ahum
    April 26th, 2007 | 18:47

    @Willy

I can understand your sentiment because several groups were targeted by the Nazi’s, the jews being one of them. Too bad though that nobody seems to care about the deaths not so long ago … genocides in Afrika, Asia, Middle East, etc.

The Jewish part has been overexposed compared to the other genocides, without saying that hardships felt during wars and genocides makes them any less than those felt 60 years ago or just recently.

  28. Sjakie
    April 26th, 2007 | 18:50

I think this movie doesn’t only play in North or South Holland but also in the other provinces of the Netherlands….

You all talk about Holland like it’s the country’s name, but Holland is just a province of our country…

  29. Skeev
    April 26th, 2007 | 18:55

As much as this is a film about this era in history should we not watch it for ourselves and stop this potential racial argument now before it gets out of hand.

Maybe another website would be best to air thoughts and opinions and discuss facts.

I think it would be best to keep personal politics, racism and insults to zero policy here.

But thats just me - I would much rather know if the file works (unzips?) and if any subs are contained / burnt in.

    Thanks to the uploader….

  30. robert
    April 26th, 2007 | 21:32

Sjakie! It’s better than confuse it with Belgium like others do!
It’s the first time I hear about this. I know the official name is The Netherlands but in many languages the derivation comes from Holland name.

  31. siftach
    April 26th, 2007 | 22:05

You can’t compare genocides done today to what happened in the 40’s. The Nazis were trying to kill all the Jews all over the world, and managed to kill about 6 millions of them (including 9 of my grandfather’s sisters) as well as another 1-1.5 million gypsies and gays and others. There are many atrocities going on today, especially in Africa, but it is not as big and as organized like what the Nazis did. And as the world didn’t care then, the world doesn’t care now, except when a Jew kills an Arab.

    Thumbs up for this movie!

  33. amperage
    April 27th, 2007 | 00:35

The human race in general has the ability to forget ugly human or inhuman behavior. It runs to about 5 to 7 years to get to that point. What we have today however is the internet and video. We, the people of the world do not tolerate killings or inhuman behavior if exposed and seen. A lot of the German people were not aware what was going on in the concentration camps and would not of tolerated it if they knew. Most people want peace but you can control actions by limiting or controlling what is aired…. It’s good we do have the internet where government control of media is limited (I hope forever).

I am watching the 1989 Italian movie Man on Fire. Didn’t know it was a remake with Danzel Washington, Scott Glenn first played Creasy.

How do you put the sub file into the movie so you can have english sub titles with the movie?

  36. Senor Ayuda
    April 27th, 2007 | 07:09

    Watson:

To add subs, you need a media player that can handle them.

    I recommend VLC:

    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

If subtitle file has same name as movie file, VLC will play it automatically

  37. robin
    April 27th, 2007 | 07:55

Can someone please help me with subtitles.
I have moved the subtitle file into the correct file before extracting it, making sure it has the same file name, a into file a, b into file b.
but still plays with no subtitles. even with VLC player.
had the same trouble with Letters from Iwa Jima.
is there a special way for adding the subtitle file? i have just been dragging it into file a
    Help Please

i have the same problem can someone PLEASE help!!!!

  39. amperage
    April 27th, 2007 | 09:06

I am not sure about playing them as is after being extracted but if you want to burn a copy with sub titles then try DVDSanta burning program. I know Nero does not work… If there are other burning programs that will add sub titles please list them. Also, winamp is listed on rlslog but I’ve never used their media player program.

  40. DaffyDuck
    April 27th, 2007 | 09:08

If you’re using VLC, from the menu select “Video” and then “Subtitle Track”. Now select the “Track 1 - [English]” or “Track 2 - [Polish]“. …. Enjoy !!

  41. DaffyDuck
    April 27th, 2007 | 09:11

You can use ConvertXtoDvd. With this you can include the Subtitles. I find this program as the easiest and best converter there is.

    April 29th, 2007 | 15:33

Skeev nice try it almost worked :) (I agree just keeping to reviewing the file and letting people know if it works or not)

as I’m here I may aswell ask is anyone else having problems with the sub timings? they seem to stay on for quite some time and when it needs to stay on a while it’s gone within a few seconds?

I had to DL an .srt sub file, but that seems to be the same.

just wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem? (I haven’t watched the whole film yet though, just a quick scan through to make sure it all works…..and I have to say that bit at the end of CD1 is quite nice to watch :D (you’ll know the bit I mean when you see it “Blond also” I want to see it too….just to make sure they’re not just saying that :D)

  44. April 29th, 2007 | 15:41

i just watched it! great film

  45. madguy123
    April 30th, 2007 | 01:33

what about the subs though? were they onscreen for ages and then when it’s loads of text not long enough?

I’m watching a part of it now and it’s doing the exact same thing I said yesterday.

I think I may have to edit an .srt myself so it plays the way it’s meant to :( unless someone has already redone them :)

  46. Derek
    April 30th, 2007 | 04:04

I want to watch it on my tv with my standalone dvd player.
    What I tried:
Join the 2 avi files; join the 2 srt files (used subtitle workshop). Used convertxtodvd; result gibberish subtitles
    ————————————————————
Put 1st video file on convertxtodvd along with its isx & sub
    Put 2nd video file “”
Convert & burn got no subtitles.
    ————————————————————
    I’ll go try dvdsanta.

  47. madguy123
    April 30th, 2007 | 16:50

seriously has no one else noticed the sub timings?

I’m in the middle of editing an .srt at the moment (and it’s quite a pain to do in notepad and VLC, especially as I haven’t seen the film yet…..:( I’m about 15-20 minutes in and I’ve got all the subs at the start of the film matched up perfectly….well near enough….it’s better than it was :)
of course my dutch/german and whatever else is in there isn’t really that good….I can make out a few words :)

but can anyone tell me if the original subs were done automatically? or are they straight from the DVD? (I’ll be watching it via a Divx DVD player which doesn’t read the .sub or the .idx files, it only seem to pick up .srt’s

if someone could find some subs that are already done and are done right, that would be a great help :) (I’ve got the one off the moviesandsubs website (that’s the one I’m editing now as it’s exactly the same problem as the .idx and .sub in the torrent.

looks like a great film though.

  48. Good movie
    May 1st, 2007 | 23:59

Paul Verhoeven finally let go of that Hollow Man and Starship Troopers crap and came back with a good picture. Not seeing all the same Hollywood faces is also a refreshing experience. Imagine the movie with Naomi Watts and… I don’t know… Will Smith?

  49. malvert
    May 2nd, 2007 | 16:24

Not only this release has bad timing of subtitles mentioned above, but it is badly crooped too. It’s picture format is 1,85:1 while it should be 2,35:1.

  50. ghfghfgh
    May 3rd, 2007 | 10:48
