Black August 2007 STV DVDRip XviD-TheWretched

Black August is the name of new STV drama released by group The Wretched. This flick can’t become a mainstream hit with its limited budget and not exactly an all-star cast, but the plot line sounds fairly interesting and comments or reviews I read through points out few interesting facts about it. The release contains French, English and Portugese subtitles

Inmate activist George Lester Jackson (CSI’s Gary Dourdan) short life became a flashpoint for revolution, igniting the bloodiest riot in San Quentin history. In a story ripped from history headlines, Black August traces Jackson spiritual journey and violent fate, from being sent up on a one-year-to-life sentence for robbing a gas station of $71, to galvanizing the Black Guerrilla Family with his incendiary book of letters, Soledad Brother, to the fierce August day when his younger brother Jonathan shocked the world by taking a California courtroom hostage to protest Jackson upcoming trial.

Wow I’m surprised the racist trolls haven’t hit this up yet with all their ignorant comments. Hallelujah for rlslog not having loads and loads of racist users.

And I know what folks are thinking… “Oh yeah the Black Guerrilla Family, etc, etc…THEY were racist against whites, blah blah blah”

WAY out of context. First: You will never know what its like to be black in America. (Therefore you don’t know the psychological/historical effects on the modern black man’s mind and what motivates them to distrust most white folks)
Second: Most of the wealth/power is in the hands of White Males. So- with that said (and I’m white btw) white folks are hated for a REASON, and the majority of them use their white privilege to an advantage (conscious or not).

Third: We as white males have a responsibility to create equality, and USE our white privilege to uplift others if we are even to be taken seriously and to be truly trusted by the people of color in this world.

(I know there are other racial dynamics in other parts of this world, but for the most part whitey needs to step up and SHOW rather than SAY how “We aren’t racist”)

I’ll definitely catch this. Does anyone know that Black August is a yearly festival in Africa? Many EMCEES go there and play/contribute to it- namely Talib Kweli, Boots Riley, Stic. Man, M1, Common, Lauren Hill, the list goes on.

    BLACK AUGUST!

This is a really entertaining movie. It has strong acting. Here, ‘Straight To Video’ says nothing about quality.

I’ll bet that this lame ass STV movie left out the torture that was done to the prison guards during George’s escape attempt. Georgie and his group of monkies are nothing more than common murderers and Gang Members who all deserve to have their extremities blown off and made to eat from a straw for the rest of thier miserably confined life.

Well out come the critics…anyway everyone is equal, but they are certainly different and politics/society affect the status of that so-called equality- any why? Why doesn’t equality exist? Because money and power come into play.

Do the decedents of African slaves think they are the only slaves? I don’t think so- I don’t think most of middle/lower class folks have a critical analysis on the situation. They are just decedents of slaves and are born into a position that requires money to even be recognized, yet as we see- even rich black men/women are scrutinized- so the only prejudice they are escaping is that of the economic type. Even so- The white elite will still find a reason to hate- they are of color. Stop making excuses- the only way to help create equality is to teach through example- live it- and teach it-

I guess you haven’t seen the documentary which shows George Jackson and his bunch of hoodlums using nail clippers to clip veins and arteries on the innocent guards just to torture them for a little bit before they bled out… or his brother utilizing a shotgun taped to the underside of a judges chin using it to evaporate his face…yet these are your “black activists” HAH! nothing but common criminals and murderers

    @ 27 Twizted:

Anybody with half a brain will despise torture and will condemn the killing of a another human being.

Still, torturing and killing does take place. Pretty much everybody can be driven into a mental state necessary for being capable to kill and even torture someone else.

George Jackson was 18 when he commited the clearly despicable crime of commiting an armed robbery (at a gasoline station). What he lived in were the United States of 1949-1960. Racial Segregation. Threats were passed out to every negro who was about to try changing the status quo. That was a very different time from today, even different from the late 70’s. Big time of covert operations, hindering oppositional movements in the U.S.

This movie is at least interesting and informative. If you watch this film with an open mind and some acuity, and you do some research on your own, using a multitude of sources, then you might actually learn something. For most parts, this movie is not about healthy people. They are either deformed or suffering, or both.

The scene where the white mob lynch the Black guy is horrible, the castrated him and then hung him and set him on fire. Pieces of his flesh were passed around for trophys. I didnt know lynching was so widespread in America.

I just googled Lynching and clicked on images.
