BitDefender has better detection rates than NOD32, Microsoft, and McAfee products but isn’t nearly as good as Symantec, Kaspersky, Avast! or AntiVir (regarded as the best).

Shiny: If you ever come a new release of Avira’s Antivir, please post. :D

lol: Hmm… Have you really put them to some serious testing and compared all of the above? And have you read any review about them? Or are you just guessing..? :D

To claim that AntiVir, Avast and Symantec are better than Bitdefender… That’s just plain wrong. AntiVir!? Lots of malvare slip through that one. I bet you like Norton too.. :D Just kidding.

This is not just my opinion, you can check almost any review on the web. Try this for one:

Tech-9: I like to base my opinions on personal experience first and foremost and by the professional opinion of people who do specialize in security.

I’ve personally never heard of that site you linked, but if you would like to see some legit sites with what I would call accurate results, check these out:

    http://www.av-comparatives.org/
    http://av-test.org/

and a PCWorld blurb about Av-test’s comparison chart:

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2135053,00.asp

That test set was based mostly on malware detection.

Can I ask without sounding like a nob – I downloaded some program a few weeks ago with a keymaker and it generated the right length key but the key wasn’t valid – is this usual? Does a key generator just stick some numbers and letters together and hope for the best?

    @zep

usually it generates a key, but.. not valid. It means that you can use it but you can’t have all the benefits.:-)

That’s why i’m askin’ if this bdefender can be updated even with a non valid serial.

The proper name of this product is Bitdefender Internet Security v10. Personally I find this one of the best suites i have tried its non intrusive uses around 15mb memory so not a big resource hog like most of them. The big plus is it doesnt interfere with online gaming like a few of them do which can cause lagging out and dropping packets. I have bought this because it was so great and believe me I have tried them all.

    @Hen – ahh I see, thanks a lot :)

  15. June 25th, 2007 | 20:56

I have BitDefender Internet Security v10. Came with a patch and serial. The very first time you install and patch it you can get updates from the internet. The thing is, Bitdefender has updates every hour. So what you do disable automatic updates because if you dont, it will try to update, detect an invalid key and it wont protect your pc. So, install update the first time and then go to the options and disable updates. From there, update periodically as in every other day.

    @lol: ???

Symantec generally fails quite miserably in recent tests, going even below the freebies, and while Avast! is a decent free antivirus tool, it’s still usually not comparable to NOD32, in part thanks to its advanced heuristic scans. Kaspersky use to top detection charts.

Here’s a recent (2007) test from virus.gr. The reason AOL scores so high is because it uses the Kaspersky engine.

    1. Kaspersky version 7.0.0.43 beta – 99.23%
    2. Kaspersky version 6.0.2.614 – 99.13%
    3. Active Virus Shield by AOL version 6.0.0.308 – 99.13%
    4. ZoneAlarm with KAV Antivirus version 7.0.337.000 – 99.13%
    5. F-Secure 2007 version 7.01.128 – 98.56%
    6. BitDefender Professional version 10 – 97.70%
    10. Nod32 version 2.70.32 – 94.00%
    12. Avast Professional version 4.7.986 – 92.82%
    13. AVG Anti-Malware Professional version 7.5.465 – 92.14%
    15. McAfee Enterprise version 8.5.0i+AntiSpyware module – 90.65%
    16. Panda 2007 version 2.01.00 – 90.06%
    19. McAfee version 11.0.213 – 86.13%
    20. Norton Professional 2007 – 86.08%

Btw, AntiVir was not tested at the time above, so it’s not listed because it’s necessarily bad.

See, i looked around for a decent antivirus AND firewall SUITE about 4 months back, and tbh this was the best i found! i used to use Zone Alarm suite… but then it changed to CheckPoint or whatever and it was useless, and was the direct cause of many gaming troubles.
It had the most intuative interface and advanced features tucked away, i havent looked back. iv had ZERO problems with it so far. And the crack i got is still working and it updates everyday no problem!

So, if you want just antivirus or whatever, go for Kaspersky or whatever. But if you want all-in-one solution with probably the smallest memory footprint…. get this!!!!!!

CORE keygen sucks, i didnt use it. Try this crack……
    http://rapidshare.com/files/39352162/BDv10crack.rar
just install bitdefender_isecurity_v10.exe or whatever, and copy the cracked files over the top

Kaspersky has the most horrible interface with menus within menus and keeps going till your completely lost and cant find what the hell your looking for.
Zonealarm was no good for online gaming but good enough for your nan to use.
Don’t use anything with AOL in its name because…its AOL.
You might have trouble using this for a decent length of time as they blacklist the keys very quickly.
To be honest why use a cracked version when this is the life or death situation of your pc. Keygen fine.. but crack?! Hmmm.

Since it’s been advised (by eric) to disable the automatic update feature. Can anyone suggest a way to automate the updates? Even if it’s just every time the PC is started? Like a statup script? Just an idea… Thanks in advance!

Also, I’ve dl’ed this and seams to be working just fine…

I had just installed norton 360, which is supposed to be the best one yet,but still lets some worms and trojans thru, wtf.Any ideas how to kill this W32.Alcra.F without buying another prog.

    pse help

try NOD32. smallest memory footprint of all. installs in under 30 seconds. trial period lasts for 30 days. cracks available freely on the net. excellent detection rate.

norton sucks your cpu & ram. avoid like the plague.

for anti-spyware use spywareblaster (freeware) – it’s a fantastic innoculation tool + spybot search & destroy + adware (free version). Never had a problem !!

avg anti-spyware is also available over the net (cracked version). avg purchased ewido – very nice software & interface.

BTW, to completely disinfect your PC, do a complete scan & clean … then reboot in safe mode & once again do a complete scan & clean.

i think that should take care of your virus/trojan/worm problems.

    HTH, Rgds,
    Prakash.

    yeah…
norton sure sucks… they are the heavier amongst the antivirus but they still allow some viruses, worms etc to enter your pc like hell.
bitdefender is far away better than norton…. try use bitdefender 10 pro
    kaspersky is awesome too…… ;p
    avg??? just forget it
