Finally after a 3 days of waiting a cracked version of highly anticipated X360 and PC game Bioshock is released by group ONEHitWONDER. I know many of you out there have been waiting for this game and got your first taste of it with the demo released a few days ago. This release is quite big coming in at 6GB and requiring 8GB of your HD for installation. System requirements are also quite high as you probably know by now. The NFO states that this ONEHiTWONDER’s first and only release hence the name “ONEHiTWONDER” so don’t expect any more from them. Download and enjoy this fine game

Actually, you’ll need more than 8GB of HD during the “circumvention” process of the protection. After normal installation, you’ll have to duplicate the whole Bioshock dir, thus you’ll need twice the space. Though you can delete the old data when you’re done.

You dont actually need to copy the installed game files to a new directory, you can just rename the directory when the pop up window appears at the end of install. This prevents the installer deleting them.

Doesn’t work. It’s the same Direct2Drive exe that’s been posted since day one under numerous group names. Doesn’t work with retail keys, either.

To remove the securom reg, instead of RegDelNull and typing that in CMD; couldnt you get the same result by start->run->RegEdit; search of “Securom” and delete it? Isnt it essentially the same thing?

Bako1, you sir are a retard. You cannot simply “open it up on some c++ compiler and edit the code.” In case you didn’t know, the C++ compiler compiles the C++ code into ASM. You can disassemble the ASM, and perhaps reconstruct pseudo C++ but almost never get the original code. Stop acting like you know how to crack. You can’t and will just keep leeching.

1. The exe shortcut has no icon.
2. The exe jumps to that dos screen and says that.
3. Unplugging. Uninstalling. Changing the system date. Etc. Does Not work.
4. The game connects to an autopatcher at the end of install.
—-> If you kill that autopatcher, it rolls back the install.
—-> If you say you don’t want to patch, it kills the install.

If you have Zone Alarm, when the installer tries to run securerom to check the disc, Zone Alarm will stop it cause it is suspicious behavior, that’s the perfect time to swap image

i just thought of something what if…..we run some kind of hack to copy all the server then make our own server and patch it so it redirects you to that server and it fixes it automatically…then you continue installing the game and all you do is change a small link in the installer…but you will probably have to get into their server (we need tough hacker for that on)

found another manual crack method that sounds like it works..
1. Mount
2. Install…wait for it to finish…once it starts downloading patch…copy the install folder directery somewhere else…like from C:/program files/bioshock to C:/bioshock or anywhere you want
4-let the installer undo itself and apply the cracker paul.dll and game .exe to the copied folder
5-PLAY!

OK, everyone listen up, with the release of the MAXI image (http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1318825/2415950/) you no longer need to copy the directory during install and end up missing several files. Here’s what you do:
Step 1: Download this: http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1318825/2415950/
Step 2: Mount the real bioshock image (this one) and copy the whole thing to a folder on your computer.
Step 3: Mount the MAXI image (http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1318825/2415950/).
Step 4: Go to the directory where you copied all the files and run the autoloader and install the game.
PRESTO! Everything installs, including the autopatcher and you get all those files that you normally didn’t get… Only problem now is activation, but at least everyone can get a full and complete install now…

yeah it works if you do the combo of mounting the mini image and installing from the dvd 9, but it gets stuck on the activation. The manual activate option shouldn’t be too hard to crack since Adobe’s software as basically the same thing and it’s cracked.

finally, i managed to play through the demo with the pixel shader 2 hack from the official forum. i like the sound. the gameplay is similar to system shock. i love the story and atmosphere (would look better with ps 3.0 card).
you can uninstall securom from your system after uninstalling the demo. it just takes some work that the casual pc user will not know (or willing to invest the time to learn).

Well it took me 20 hrs to “almost” complete the game.
I bought it ofcourse and was well worth the purchase, but the only problem is the activation……… You only get 5 installs until the key is invalid, and the limit the key can be used on different computers is now 5.
Elizibath said they will be introducing a “Revoke” system which will make the limited install thing obsolite.
But until then we just gotta sit tight.

I was going to buy this game – but when i buy something i expect to own it, not be told i can only install on so many machines/so many times and not that i have to choke up my system with crap like rootkits and securom in order to play.
A win for drm in that it hasn’t been cracked yet, but a loss in sales from me and many others no doubt – I’ll wait on a working release, if it doesn’t show then so be it.
It may be a great game, but this new protection crap is the start of a slippery slope leading to all kinds of problems for legitimate users who actually intended to buy the game, and for the pirates among us it just means we’ll be waiting a bit longer to play it but we’ll get the benefit of no anti piracy software infestation on our pc’s.
If this game is Steam..I don’t think anyone has actually written a crack for it. Instead like HL2 Repacks had to be made. Or if it’s SecuROM, like POPTT, I don’t think that’s has been cracked either yet :/… I hope it happens. Good luck professional peoples *fingers crossed*.

Damn will i didnt get that far i mounted using dameon tools,then it asked for the original dvd before it even would completed the install.I try mounted the game with dameon tools 9 then mounted the mini image with version 10 but still picked up no dvd serom error.Im amazed you got far enough to get it installed in a directory i might buy game as well since it got 5 out of 5 stars in gamer tv.Ill still hang off for a razor or reloaded answer first.

A keygen is probably impossible, since this seems to be an actually properly implemented challenge/response protection (strong asymmetric cryptography algorithm that can’t be broken). With a lot of effort the game might be cracked maybe, but I wouldn’t count on it too soon.

it’s possible to use some of the retail files in the demo.
for instance, you can change the main menu to show new game, load, etc instead of demo. but you can’t save even though there is a gui page for it.
some graphics were left out of the demo version. you can “restore” them from the retail copy. this enhances the game a bit.
also the dev/log console will show scripts executing and you can use commands like “open” to open a map. unfortunately, it’s not possible to open anything other than the demo maps. it would seem there is a “lock” placed in the demo exe that prevents loading any level other than the demo ones.
on the bright side, you can enable ‘hard’ mode this way. when you use health it eats up more of your supply. the splicers are much tougher to take down too.

There have been some concerns that the copy protection was something nobody had ever seen before, except for the online procedure, there’s nothing different. There’s nothing wacky going on there, at some point we’ll move back from online activation. If people want to play BioShock ten years from now, they’ll be able to play it. We have a commitment from 2K that that is going to happen and we’ll hold them to that commitment and they’re serious about it, we’ll make that happen.

It is an awkward situation, all this nuke war thing. What I think is that REQUIRING internet connection in order to install a game is crap. Just like HL2. I had the same problem with the Bioshock demo game would not start game installed fine my hardware all above medium this is what i found out game is supposed to auto detect dx9 or dx10 but on some peeps comps it just failed to start here is the fix well worked for me

P.S. – No lie. I will be exploring Rapture while you go on to live the life of a dickhead. Hope you guys figure it out soon. Its fun! You don’t actually get the fire plasmid until much later than i thought. The demo was actually doing you a favor. Max had it pretty close with that msvcr80.dll error.

This is the game that separates or divides those who would rather steal EVERY piece of software they own, and those who pirate then purchase like most .nfo files suggest. Either way neither group of fiends is better than the other.
I suggest buying this game, it’s one of the few games this year (Half Life 2 Orange box, Call of Duty 4, Crisis, Hellgate: London, and World in Conflict) that warrant a purchase of your hard earned dollars. Bioshock seems to be one of those games that never crack quite right. Although people said that about HL2, now look how the scene has circumvented steam.
All I’m saying is, this is one of the small number of games worth purchasing.

What can I say. ..?
Well after the thousand or so WW II shooters out there It’s nice to see a great origional story line. Bioshock give me the feeling I had the first time I played HL & HL 2. Dark Messiah and STALKER almost did it but with all the bugs ithey fell a bit short. I have herd of some people having issues with playability but so far I’m smooth sailing; save for the occasional hanging fireball. The Hack feature while it does get a little old after a while is a great twist and all the choices to be made @ vending machines, Uinvents, and weapon upgrades as well as the variety in which you can dispatch you enemies seems to give this game great replayability. Well I off. time to get back to rapture and see what else is in store for me.
never played any of the Systemshock games, so this was my first visit to the shock world. I can’t say I am very impressed either. Except for when it comes to graphics. The graphics are absolutely wonderful.
It doesn’t matter if I am looking out the window, looking at surroundings indoors or just looking at the enemies. They’re all very well done. Animation is ok, nothing spectacular. They managed to get that feeling of everything being wet or damp in a good way.
The voice acting is good as well. Nothing spectacular, since you rarely have any conversations with anyone. No wait, you NEVER have any conversation with anyone. All you do is listen to your radio and random tapes you find. I always find it lacking when the main character is void of personality and lines to speak.
The story then?
Well, have you played Doom 3? Or F.E.A.R.? If you have, you know the drill. Listen to your radio, listen to tapes scattered all over the place. That works well in both Doom 3 and F.E.A.R. for two simple reasons. 1: In Doom 3, you are usually familiar with the setting, and what the game is about. (I suspect most of you out there has played Doom 1 and/or Doom 2) In F.E.A.R. it all plays out in “our” world. Also copied elements from Doom 3 (the scattered messages) and The Ring (scary little girls who go on a killing spree) You can relate to these things. Bioshock? An underwater city in the 1950’s with scattered messages all over. Unregulated by any government except its own, which is a crazy guy with too much money who built it all. First of all, the city is huge. In order to have the funds to build it, you have to be so rich that if you add up all the money in the world right now, it still wouldn’t be enough. It’s just a bit too extreme, at least for me and I am a sci-fi nerd. It just doesn’t strike me as believable. Also the scattered messages, it worked well in Doom 3 and F.E.A.R. because you could relate. I really can’t relate to an underwater world gone insane in the 1950’s. Sorry, I just can’t.
The main character is a mystery too. A lone survivor from a plane who crashed without any reason (or so it seems, nothing in the story so far indicates why it crashed) who then when he enters this strange underwater world, takes the first syringe he can find with a glowy content and proceeds to shoot up. SAY WHAT? If I, especially in the 1950’s with their very limited technology, found an underwater city, believe me when I say that the first thing I do when I find a syringe with a glowing content is NOT to inject it into anything. Story wise, too much doesn’t add up. Ambitious yes, but not believable.
The game is fairly entertaining but not all it’s cracked up to be.

Looks like the rofles is a kiddy after attention too? My take on this is that the scene is supposed to be about anarchic yet organisation of groups to fuck over cooperate ass holes like Sony. It’s a shame that it has become a place where dumb kids can play about.
Well i used the exe from the demo, and then the RELOADED key gen. Also the “Paul” files. I did the copy of install folder. It took me a while. My start button did not work, I am a C++ programmer by day so i wrote a code to emulate the start button. I can run the game but it keep crashing to the desktop. I had to disable my internet.

Well i bought this for my 360 after playing the demo, my isnt man enough to do it justice.
even on the suposedly inferior 360 platform I think this game is well worth £35, which is prob less in the states.
The games company obviously have put so much into this game, I’d say to anyone who can afford to buy it to buy it. it rewards them for making such a cool game. and lets face it none of you would still be arsing around trying to hack it when u could be playing.
Best game Ive played since original halflife, if ur gonna buy one game this year i suggest you make it this one.

the file called “dfe” in the directory contrains encrypted files that will be decrypted once activation is complete, if someone break the encryption on that file, we’re pretty much on goal.

BioShock is a first-person shooter with RPG customization elements to the game, similar to that found in the spiritual predecessor, System Shock 2. A 14 minute video showing gameplay and some of the game’s AI was released on September 20, 2006.[9]
The player collects weapons, health packs, and Plasmids that give him special powers such as telekinesis or electro-shock, while fighting off the deranged population of the underwater city of Rapture. The player at times will need to use stealth to slip by security cameras and foes, and can also hack into security stations to turn automated drones to his side.
The main resources in the game are ADAM, EVE, and Money. ADAM is used for character growth, EVE (which is similar to “mana” in fantasy RPGs) allows the use of Active Plasmids, and Money allows the purchase of special items and ammunition as well as bribing, or effectively ‘buying off’ security bots and turrets.

The developers encourage the player to use their super-powered plasmids imaginatively[citation needed]. Plasmids are versatile, and the player can use them in concert with each other and the environment to great effect. For example, one of the first bosses the player will face is a crazed surgeon. The player can use Incinerate to set him on fire, then as he tries to put himself out in a pool of water the player can use ElectroBolt to electrocute the water. While he is stunned and convulsing, the player can hack a nearby medical station so that it will poison the surgeon when he tries to heal himself. Telekinesis can be used on anything not nailed down; not only can the player catch grenades or rockets and throw them back at an enemy, he can also pick up a burning object and throw it to set an enemy on fire, or even defuse and re-set traps. The player has a limited number of slots to use on different types of Plasmids, so they have to decide which ones to arm themselves with and which to put into storage.
It is hinted that some (if not all) Plasmids alter the character’s appearance (some screenshots show the character’s hands with a texture similar to some of the splicers’ skin), keeping up with the theme of “sacrificing your humanity” referenced by Ryan in one of the game’s trailers.[10] The ‘improved’ versions of Plasmids have a more drastic effect on the player’s appearance (for example, the initial Electro Bolt Plasmid has little effect on the player’s appearance, however when upgraded to Electro Bolt 2, warts and skin disfigurations can be clearly seen on the player’s hand). In all, there are over 70 plasmids and tonics.
There is also weapon customization. The player can alter weapons to hold bigger magazines, to augment firepower, etc.. The player can also equip each weapon with three different kinds of ammo (for example, the revolver can shoot normal, anti-personnel and armor piercing bullets). There is also a camera in the game that can be used to learn an enemy’s weakness.
The player also has access to a type of vending machine called U-Invent[citation needed], where the player can combine bits of scrap found around Rapture to create ammo, traps, hacking devices, and so on. Instead of reloading a saved game state if death occurs, the player will simply respawn at the nearest Vita Chamber.[11]
Plot
The player takes the role of Jack (taken from the name on the package he holds), a passenger on a plane that crashes over the Atlantic Ocean near Rapture in 1960. Descending into Rapture via a bathysphere terminus, he discovers the city has fallen into chaos. As Jack’s bathysphere completes its journey to the city, a man called Atlas, communicating through a short-wave radio, directs Jack to safety from nearby Splicers. Ryan watches Jack’s every move through the security cameras and thinks him to be a CIA or KGB agent; as a result, Ryan repeatedly uses Rapture’s automated systems and his Splicer armies, controlled by pheromones pumped into Rapture’s air supply, to slow down and kill Jack. Atlas tells Jack that the only way he can survive is to inject himself with plasmids and to use the abilities they give him. Atlas also tells Jack to kill the Little Sisters, in order to harvest the ADAM they carry to become more powerful. Dr. Tenenbaum, who is also watching Jack’s progress, insists that Jack only kill the sea slug, so as to rescue the human girl within each Little Sister; while Jack would gain some ADAM but not as much as by killing the Sister, Dr. Tenenbaum promises that she will reward him greatly for saving the girls.[14]
As Jack works his way through the city, he learns through audio journals and diaries of the deceased left about Rapture. Prior to the collapse of society, Ryan’s power was challenged by other groups. Frank Fontaine, a mobster that smuggled goods into the city, had sufficient power, money, and supporters to fight against Ryan. Atlas himself was a leading political figure in an uprising group; as a result, Atlas’s wife and child were kidnapped from him and locked away in a bathysphere, which is why Atlas assists Jack, in hopes he will help save them. Unfortunately, as soon as the two arrive, Ryan sadistically causes the bathysphere to explode; an enraged Atlas tells Jack he must find and kill Ryan. Jack moves through the wreckage to Ryan’s Splicer-patrolled residence.
Eventually Jack makes his way to Ryan, who has stopped putting up any resistance to Jack’s efforts. Instead, he reveals to Jack why he is here: Jack was actually born in Rapture; Ryan’s illegitimate son as a result of an affair with Jasmine Jolene, a prostitute. Ryan further informs Jack that he was trained by Fontaine to be an assassin. Fontaine sent him topside when he was two years old, then just prior to the present of the game, sent him instructions that trigger his conditioning to hijack a plane, crash it near Rapture’s surface entrance, seek out Ryan, and assassinate him. Ryan calmly demonstrates Jack’s lack of free will by ordering Jack to kill him, using the trigger phrase “Would you kindly…”. Jack realizes that Atlas has been using the same phrase since he arrived in Rapture. After Ryan is dead, Atlas reveals himself to be Fontaine. With Ryan dead, Fontaine no longer needs Jack, and leaves him to the fatally dangerous security systems of Ryan’s residence. However, Dr. Tenenbaum and her Little Sisters save Jack before security kills him.
After Jack recovers, Dr. Tenenbaum assists him in getting to Fontaine by working out how to break Jack’s conditioned responses to Fontaine’s orders, including those that temporarily stop his heart[citation needed]. Dr. Tenenbaum predicts that the only way to approach Fontaine would be to assemble a Big Daddy suit and follow the rescued Little Sisters through passageways only they can access. As Jack approaches, Fontaine, fearing for his life, injects himself with all the ADAM he had stored up, becoming an inhuman monster. Jack and the Little Sisters are eventually able to subdue Fontaine.
Depending on player actions before this point, one of two things will happen. If during the game the player rescued the Little Sisters , as requested by Dr. Tenenbaum, the Little Sisters swarm Atlas/Fontaine and stab him to death with their ADAM needles. The Little Sisters are then shown leaving Rapture. Tenenbaum goes on to explain that thanks to Jack, they can live normal lives in the outside world. The last scene is of an elderly Jack on his death bed, comforted by the now-adult Little Sisters. Dr. Tenenbaum notes that, “Jack received a family.”
If the player has harvested the Little Sisters as urged on by Atlas/Fontaine, Jack is overcome with his lust for ADAM and snatches the nearest Little Sister when Fontaine is dead. The first person view ends and Tenenbaum begins a monologue in which she discusses how disgusted she is with Jack for his cruelty and lack of control, implying that he killed the Little Sisters. At the same time, a silent cut scene takes place in which a naval submarine surveying the downed plane’s crash site is surrounded with bathysphere pods from below. The sailors on the submarine’s deck gawk as the dozens of bathyspheres emerge from the ocean, carrying several Splicers each. The Splicers slaughter the submarine crew, and the camera halts on one of the sub’s onboard ICBMs before fading to black.

Several possible plot holes exist in the story of Bioshock. The player is informed that he can use the vitachambers as he has part of Ryan’s DNA, yet when Ryan is killed the player is made to believe that he is permanently dead. Secondly the player is under the spell of Fontaine throughout the game up until he kills Ryan, yet the player is given the choice of harvesting or rescuing the little sisters, despite the fact that Atlas (Fontaine) tells him to harvest them.

Levine has stated in an interview with gaming website IGN that the project has drawn on many influences, mostly from utopian and dystopian literature; “I have my useless liberal arts degree, so I’ve read stuff from Ayn Rand and George Orwell, and all the sort of utopian and dystopian writings of the 20th century, which I’ve found really fascinating.” He also states that he wanted to confront challenges that face the modern world such as “stem cell research and the moral issues that go around”.[15]
In an interview appearing in gaming magazine EGM, Levine states:
“ As a kid, I was obsessed with 1984 and Logan’s Run. I love exploring what happens when good ideas fall apart. ”
The Shining(both the Stanley Kubrick film and Stephen King novel) has also been credited as being a huge influence by the developers in an IGN interview. The game’s spooky atmosphere has many thematic similarities to the Overlook Hotel.
One reviewer compared BioShock to Orson Welles’ 1941 film, Citizen Kane, both of which are set in post-war America.[16]
[edit] Similarities to System Shock series
According to the developers, Bioshock is a spiritual successor to the System Shock games, and was developed by former developers of that series. Levine pointed out many similarities during his narration of a video initially screened for the press at E3 2006:[17] There are several comparable game play elements: Plasmids serve the same function as Psionic Abilities from System Shock 2; the player needs to deal with security cameras, turrets, and drones with the abilities to hack these; ammo conservation is stressed as “a key gameplay feature”, and audio recordings serve as the same storytelling device that email logs did.[17] The “ghosts” from System Shock 2, phantom images who replay tragic incidents in the places they occurred, also exist in BioShock, as do modifiable weapons with multiple ammunition types.

BioShock was initially developed using an enhanced version of the Vengeance engine, the highly modified version of Unreal Engine 2.5 technology used by previous Irrational titles Tribes: Vengeance, SWAT 4, and SWAT 4: The Stetchkov Syndicate. In an interview at E3 in May 2006, Levine announced a switch to a modified Unreal Engine 3.0. Levine emphasized the enhanced water effects, which he claimed would be very impressive: “We’ve hired a water programmer and water artist, just for this game, and they’re kicking ass and you’ve never seen water like this.”[18]
BioShock utilizes the DirectX 10 feature set when available, but it will also run on older DirectX 9 hardware.[19]
While industry rumors suggested that there might be a PlayStation 3 version of BioShock, based on the presence of text referencing the PlayStation 3 in the PC demo’s configuration files, Ken Levine has denied that there is any PS3 version in development. The demo is reportedly from an older build of the game, and an exclusive deal has been signed with Microsoft since then, limiting the title to Windows and Xbox 360.[20]

A free demo was released on Xbox Live Marketplace on August 12, 2007.[21] The PC demo was officially released on August 20, 2007. The official version of the PC demo is available for download from FileFront, FilePlanet, and GameSpot, and is also made available through the digital distribution program Steam (activation required).
Larry Hryb (also known as Major Nelson) chatted with Ken Levine on his podcast about the BioShock demo.[22] The demo contains the first 45 minutes of the game and includes a beginning cinematic that established a setting and beginning plot lines. The demo also introduced a few weapons, such as the pistol and the machine gun, along with powers that can be used by the main character, such as ElectroBolt and Incinerate; some of these would normally be found later in the game, but were added in the demo in order to give players a taste of the full game. Black is the son of two satellite engineers. His mother, Judith Cohen, is Jewish, while his father, Thomas Jack Black, Sr., converted.[1] He was raised in the Jewish religion.[2] His parents divorced when he was 10. Black moved to Culver City with his father and frequently visited his mother’s home until the end of his first year of college at UCLA when his father’s family moved abroad. As a child, Black appeared in an early Atari Pitfall! commercial,[3] which was later shown during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and again on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
When he entered high school, his parents suggested that he transfer to the Poseidon School, a private secondary school engineered specifically for students struggling in the traditional school system.[4] Black eagerly accepted the proposition, afraid that he would only be bullied if he remained in public school. He also attended the Crossroads School, where he excelled in drama. Black later attended UCLA but dropped out during his sophomore year to pursue a career in the entertainment business, at which point his father discontinued his financial support. Fellow UCLA veteran Tim Robbins later cast Black in Bob Roberts. He also had recurring roles on the HBO sketch comedy series Mr. Show.

Black’s acting career began primarily with primetime TV. He played roles on several hit shows such as: The Golden Palace (Taxi Driver), Life Goes On (skinhead), The X-Files (Bart ‘Zero’ Liquori) and Northern Exposure (Kevin Wilkins, prom king). Black later took on small roles in Airborne, Demolition Man, The Cable Guy, Bob Roberts, Mars Attacks!, The Jackal, Bye Bye Love, Dead Man Walking, Enemy of the State, and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer before a breakthrough role as Barry, the pretentious co-worker to John Cusack’s record store owner in High Fidelity. His career soon led to leading roles in films such as Orange County, School of Rock, and the Academy Award-winning King Kong. Black starred in three films in 2006: Nacho Libre, in which he played a Mexican friar following his childhood dream of wrestling and pursuing true victory by fighting for the children of an orphanage, and Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny, a fictionalized account of the band’s formation and their quest to obtain a “supranatural” (sic) guitar pick (’Supranatural’ being on “a whole ‘nother level than” supernatural). Nacho Libre opened on June 16, 2006; Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny was released November 22, 2006. He starred alongside Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, and Kate Winslet in The Holiday, in which he played Miles, the love interest of Winslet’s character. He still occasionally makes TV appearances, including the short-lived animated television program Clone High.
Black has appeared numerous times on the “untelevised TV network” short film festival Channel101, starring in the shows Computerman, Timebelt, and Laserfart. He also provided an introduction for the unaired sketch comedy, Awesometown, donning a Colonial-era military uniform. In the introduction, he claims to be George Washington (and takes credit for the accomplishments of other American Presidents such as Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln) and gives viewers a general idea as to what they should expect from the show. Black has also guest starred in the Adult Swim show Tom Goes to the Mayor as a bear trap store owner.
Black appeared in an un-aired pilot episode for a show directed by Ben Stiller called Heat Vision and Jack where he played an ex-astronaut pursued by actor Ron Silver. He was accompanied by his friend who had merged with a motorcycle, voiced by Owen Wilson.
In a Season 3 episode of The X-Files, titled “D.P.O.”, Black played Bart ‘Zero’ Liquori, friend to Darren, a teen who could cause lightning strikes, played by Giovanni Ribisi.
Black recently hosted the 2006 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards on April 1, 2006 and the MTV video music awards on August 31, 2006.
He is also a member of the Frat Pack, which also includes Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, and Steve Carell.

Black is the lead singer for the rock comedy band Tenacious D. Black’s singing style is often described as being a scat type of music. Black has dubbed this form of singing the “ventrili-solo”. Black has also performed a two-part scat with bandmate Gass in the song “Tribute”.
Tenacious D has released two albums, a self-titled debut, and the follow up, The Pick of Destiny. The latter coincides with the movie Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny. The film, directed by Tenacious D veteran Liam Lynch, features recurring characters such as Lee the superfan and Sasquatch. Tim Robbins cameos (both Black and Gass appeared in Robbins’ 1999 film Cradle Will Rock), as does Dave Grohl as Satan. Ben Stiller also makes an appearance as a worker at Guitar Center.
Black was also a guest star on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show entitled “Ellen the Musical”, alongside Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth and teenage singer-actress Olivia Olson. On the show, besides singing, he discussed his then-upcoming film Nacho Libre with the host.
Black has also appeared on Dave Grohl’s Probot album, providing vocals for the hidden song “I Am The Warlock”, and Liam Lynch’s Fake Songs album, providing vocals for the song “Rock and Roll Whore”.
Black performed a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” in the last sequence of High Fidelity. He lent his musical abilities to the Queens of the Stone Age song “Burn the Witch” with rhythmic stomps and claps, some performed with his eyes closed.

Black dated actress and comedian Laura Kightlinger from 1997 until 2005. In January 2006, he became engaged to Tanya Haden (daughter of the jazz double bassist Charlie Haden). Haden herself is an accomplished cellist. Both attended Crossroads school, but met again 15 years after graduating, at a friend’s birthday party. Black proposed marriage around Christmas 2005 with a $220,000 Neil Lane ring. They married on March 14, 2006, in Big Sur, California. Their son, Samuel Jason, was born on June 10, 2006.

Black’s comedic style combines many key elements from both sides of the traditional double act. Black typically begins a skit in which he presents an earnest introduction to a premise or subject that quickly reveals itself to be flawed or fundamentally ludicrous. Black then switches completely to a far-extreme caricature of human emotion. His would-be straight-man Gass often functions to trigger these outbursts. Tenacious D’s subject matter illustrates this technique:
1. In “Tribute”, Tenacious D tells a story in which they claim to have performed “The Best Song in the World” for a “Shiny Demon” who would otherwise “eat their souls”.
2. In “Inward Singing”, Black doesn’t merely discover a new vocal technique, he discovers what he refers to as “the most powerful tool in singing technology since yodeling”.

II. WAGING WAR
1. Sun Tzu said: In the operations of war,
where there are in the field a thousand swift chariots,
as many heavy chariots, and a hundred thousand
mail-clad soldiers, with provisions enough to carry them
a thousand li, the expenditure at home and at the front,
including entertainment of guests, small items such as
glue and paint, and sums spent on chariots and armor,
will reach the total of a thousand ounces of silver per day.
Such is the cost of raising an army of 100,000 men.
2. When you engage in actual fighting, if victory
is long in coming, then men’s weapons will grow dull and
their ardor will be damped. If you lay siege to a town,
you will exhaust your strength.
3. Again, if the campaign is protracted, the resources
of the State will not be equal to the strain.
4. Now, when your weapons are dulled, your ardor damped,
your strength exhausted and your treasure spent,
other chieftains will spring up to take advantage
of your extremity. Then no man, however wise,

17. Therefore in chariot fighting, when ten or more chariots
have been taken, those should be rewarded who took the first.
Our own flags should be substituted for those of the enemy,
and the chariots mingled and used in conjunction with ours.
The captured soldiers should be kindly treated and kept.
18. This is called, using the conquered foe to augment
one’s own strength.
19. In war, then, let your great object be victory,
not lengthy campaigns.
20. Thus it may be known that the leader of armies
is the arbiter of the people’s fate, the man on whom it
depends whether the nation shall be in peace or in peril.

III. ATTACK BY STRATAGEM
1. Sun Tzu said: In the practical art of war, the best
thing of all is to take the enemy’s country whole and intact;
to shatter and destroy it is not so good. So, too, it is
better to recapture an army entire than to destroy it,
to capture a regiment, a detachment or a company entire
than to destroy them.
2. Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles
is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists
in breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting.
3. Thus the highest form of generalship is to
balk the enemy’s plans; the next best is to prevent
the junction of the enemy’s forces; the next in
order is to attack the enemy’s army in the field;
and the worst policy of all is to besiege walled cities.
4. The rule is, not to besiege walled cities if it
can possibly be avoided. The preparation of mantlets,
movable shelters, and various implements of war, will take
up three whole months; and the piling up of mounds over
against the walls will take three months more.
5. The general, unable to control his irritation,
will launch his men to the assault like swarming ants,
with the result that one-third of his men are slain,
while the town still remains untaken. Such are the disastrous
effects of a siege.
6. Therefore the skillful leader subdues the enemy’s
troops without any fighting; he captures their cities
without laying siege to them; he overthrows their kingdom
without lengthy operations in the field.
7. With his forces intact he will dispute the mastery
of the Empire, and thus, without losing a man, his triumph
will be complete. This is the method of attacking by stratagem.
8. It is the rule in war, if our forces are ten
to the enemy’s one, to surround him; if five to one,
to attack him; if twice as numerous, to divide our army
into two.
9. If equally matched, we can offer battle;
if slightly inferior in numbers, we can avoid the enemy;
if quite unequal in every way, we can flee from him.
10. Hence, though an obstinate fight may be made
by a small force, in the end it must be captured
by the larger force.
11. Now the general is the bulwark of the State;
if the bulwark is complete at all points; the State will
be strong; if the bulwark is defective, the State will
be weak.
12. There are three ways in which a ruler can bring
misfortune upon his army:–
13. (1) By commanding the army to advance or to retreat,
being ignorant of the fact that it cannot obey.
This is called hobbling the army.
14. (2) By attempting to govern an army in the
same way as he administers a kingdom, being ignorant
of the conditions which obtain in an army. This causes
restlessness in the soldier’s minds.
15. (3) By employing the officers of his army
without discrimination, through ignorance of the
military principle of adaptation to circumstances.
This shakes the confidence of the soldiers.
16. But when the army is restless and distrustful,
trouble is sure to come from the other feudal princes.
This is simply bringing anarchy into the army, and flinging
victory away.
17. Thus we may know that there are five essentials
for victory:
(1) He will win who knows when to fight and when
not to fight.
(2) He will win who knows how to handle both superior
and inferior forces.
(3) He will win whose army is animated by the same
spirit throughout all its ranks.
(4) He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take
the enemy unprepared.
(5) He will win who has military capacity and is
not interfered with by the sovereign.
18. Hence the saying: If you know the enemy
and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a
hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy,
for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.
If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will
succumb in every battle.

IV. TACTICAL DISPOSITIONS
1. Sun Tzu said: The good fighters of old first put
themselves beyond the possibility of defeat, and then
waited for an opportunity of defeating the enemy.
2. To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our
own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy
is provided by the enemy himself.
3. Thus the good fighter is able to secure himself against defeat,
but cannot make certain of defeating the enemy.
4. Hence the saying: One may know how to conquer
without being able to do it.
5. Security against defeat implies defensive tactics;
ability to defeat the enemy means taking the offensive.
6. Standing on the defensive indicates insufficient
strength; attacking, a superabundance of strength.
7. The general who is skilled in defense hides in the
most secret recesses of the earth; he who is skilled in
attack flashes forth from the topmost heights of heaven.
Thus on the one hand we have ability to protect ourselves;
on the other, a victory that is complete.
8. To see victory only when it is within the ken
of the common herd is not the acme of excellence.
9. Neither is it the acme of excellence if you fight
and conquer and the whole Empire says, “Well done!”
10. To lift an autumn hair is no sign of great strength;
to see the sun and moon is no sign of sharp sight;
to hear the noise of thunder is no sign of a quick ear.
11. What the ancients called a clever fighter is
one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease.
12. Hence his victories bring him neither reputation
for wisdom nor credit for courage.
13. He wins his battles by making no mistakes.
Making no mistakes is what establishes the certainty
of victory, for it means conquering an enemy that is
already defeated.
14. Hence the skillful fighter puts himself into
a position which makes defeat impossible, and does
not miss the moment for defeating the enemy.
15. Thus it is that in war the victorious strategist
only seeks battle after the victory has been won,
whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights
and afterwards looks for victory.
16. The consummate leader cultivates the moral law,
and strictly adheres to method and discipline; thus it is
in his power to control success.
17. In respect of military method, we have,
firstly, Measurement; secondly, Estimation of quantity;
thirdly, Calculation; fourthly, Balancing of chances;
fifthly, Victory.
18. Measurement owes its existence to Earth;
Estimation of quantity to Measurement; Calculation to
Estimation of quantity; Balancing of chances to Calculation;
and Victory to Balancing of chances.
19. A victorious army opposed to a routed one, is as
a pound’s weight placed in the scale against a single grain.
20. The onrush of a conquering force is like the bursting
of pent-up waters into a chasm a thousand fathoms deep.

V. ENERGY
1. Sun Tzu said: The control of a large force
is the same principle as the control of a few men:
it is merely a question of dividing up their numbers.
2. Fighting with a large army under your command
is nowise different from fighting with a small one:
it is merely a question of instituting signs and signals.
3. To ensure that your whole host may withstand
the brunt of the enemy’s attack and remain unshaken–
this is effected by maneuvers direct and indirect.
4. That the impact of your army may be like a grindstone
dashed against an egg–this is effected by the science
of weak points and strong.
5. In all fighting, the direct method may be used
for joining battle, but indirect methods will be needed
in order to secure victory.
6. Indirect tactics, efficiently applied, are inexhaustible
as Heaven and Earth, unending as the flow of rivers and streams;
like the sun and moon, they end but to begin anew;
like the four seasons, they pass away to return once more.
7. There are not more than five musical notes,
yet the combinations of these five give rise to more
melodies than can ever be heard.
8. There are not more than five primary colors
(blue, yellow, red, white, and black), yet in combination
they produce more hues than can ever been seen.
9. There are not more than five cardinal tastes
(sour, acrid, salt, sweet, bitter), yet combinations
of them yield more flavors than can ever be tasted.
10. In battle, there are not more than two methods
of attack–the direct and the indirect; yet these two
in combination give rise to an endless series of maneuvers.
11. The direct and the indirect lead on to each other in turn.
It is like moving in a circle–you never come to an end.
Who can exhaust the possibilities of their combination?
12. The onset of troops is like the rush of a torrent
which will even roll stones along in its course.
13. The quality of decision is like the well-timed
swoop of a falcon which enables it to strike and destroy
its victim.
14. Therefore the good fighter will be terrible
in his onset, and prompt in his decision.
15. Energy may be likened to the bending of a crossbow;
decision, to the releasing of a trigger.
16. Amid the turmoil and tumult of battle, there may
be seeming disorder and yet no real disorder at all;
amid confusion and chaos, your array may be without head
or tail, yet it will be proof against defeat.
17. Simulated disorder postulates perfect discipline,
simulated fear postulates courage; simulated weakness
postulates strength.
18. Hiding order beneath the cloak of disorder is
simply a question of subdivision; concealing courage under
a show of timidity presupposes a fund of latent energy;
masking strength with weakness is to be effected
by tactical dispositions.
19. Thus one who is skillful at keeping the enemy
on the move maintains deceitful appearances, according to
which the enemy will act. He sacrifices something,
that the enemy may snatch at it.
20. By holding out baits, he keeps him on the march;
then with a body of picked men he lies in wait for him.
21. The clever combatant looks to the effect of combined
energy, and does not require too much from individuals.
Hence his ability to pick out the right men and utilize
combined energy.
22. When he utilizes combined energy, his fighting
men become as it were like unto rolling logs or stones.
For it is the nature of a log or stone to remain
motionless on level ground, and to move when on a slope;
if four-cornered, to come to a standstill, but if
round-shaped, to go rolling down.
23. Thus the energy developed by good fighting men
is as the momentum of a round stone rolled down a mountain
thousands of feet in height. So much on the subject
of energy.

VI. WEAK POINTS AND STRONG
1. Sun Tzu said: Whoever is first in the field and
awaits the coming of the enemy, will be fresh for the fight;
whoever is second in the field and has to hasten to battle
will arrive exhausted.
2. Therefore the clever combatant imposes his will on
the enemy, but does not allow the enemy’s will to be imposed on him.
3. By holding out advantages to him, he can cause the enemy
to approach of his own accord; or, by inflicting damage,
he can make it impossible for the enemy to draw near.
4. If the enemy is taking his ease, he can harass him;
if well supplied with food, he can starve him out;
if quietly encamped, he can force him to move.
5. Appear at points which the enemy must hasten to defend;
march swiftly to places where you are not expected.
6. An army may march great distances without distress,
if it marches through country where the enemy is not.
7. You can be sure of succeeding in your attacks
if you only attack places which are undefended.You can
ensure the safety of your defense if you only hold
positions that cannot be attacked.
8. Hence that general is skillful in attack whose
opponent does not know what to defend; and he is skillful
in defense whose opponent does not know what to attack.
9. O divine art of subtlety and secrecy! Through you
we learn to be invisible, through you inaudible;
and hence we can hold the enemy’s fate in our hands.
10. You may advance and be absolutely irresistible,
if you make for the enemy’s weak points; you may retire
and be safe from pursuit if your movements are more rapid
than those of the enemy.
11. If we wish to fight, the enemy can be forced
to an engagement even though he be sheltered behind a high
rampart and a deep ditch. All we need do is attack
some other place that he will be obliged to relieve.
12. If we do not wish to fight, we can prevent
the enemy from engaging us even though the lines
of our encampment be merely traced out on the ground.
All we need do is to throw something odd and unaccountable
in his way.
13. By discovering the enemy’s dispositions and remaining
invisible ourselves, we can keep our forces concentrated,
while the enemy’s must be divided.
14. We can form a single united body, while the
enemy must split up into fractions. Hence there will
be a whole pitted against separate parts of a whole,
which means that we shall be many to the enemy’s few.
15. And if we are able thus to attack an inferior force
with a superior one, our opponents will be in dire straits.
16. The spot where we intend to fight must not be
made known; for then the enemy will have to prepare
against a possible attack at several different points;
and his forces being thus distributed in many directions,
the numbers we shall have to face at any given point will
be proportionately few.
17. For should the enemy strengthen his van,
he will weaken his rear; should he strengthen his rear,
he will weaken his van; should he strengthen his left,
he will weaken his right; should he strengthen his right,
he will weaken his left. If he sends reinforcements everywhere,
he will everywhere be weak.
18. Numerical weakness comes from having to prepare
against possible attacks; numerical strength, from compelling
our adversary to make these preparations against us.
19. Knowing the place and the time of the coming battle,
we may concentrate from the greatest distances in order
to fight.
20. But if neither time nor place be known,
then the left wing will be impotent to succor the right,
the right equally impotent to succor the left, the van
unable to relieve the rear, or the rear to support the van.
How much more so if the furthest portions of the army are
anything under a hundred LI apart, and even the nearest
are separated by several LI!
21. Though according to my estimate the soldiers
of Yueh exceed our own in number, that shall advantage
them nothing in the matter of victory. I say then
that victory can be achieved.
22. Though the enemy be stronger in numbers, we may
prevent him from fighting. Scheme so as to discover
his plans and the likelihood of their success.
23. Rouse him, and learn the principle of his
activity or inactivity. Force him to reveal himself,
so as to find out his vulnerable spots.
24. Carefully compare the opposing army with your own,
so that you may know where strength is superabundant
and where it is deficient.
25. In making tactical dispositions, the highest pitch
you can attain is to conceal them; conceal your dispositions,
and you will be safe from the prying of the subtlest spies,
from the machinations of the wisest brains.
26. How victory may be produced for them out of the enemy’s
own tactics–that is what the multitude cannot comprehend.
27. All men can see the tactics whereby I conquer,
but what none can see is the strategy out of which victory
is evolved.
28. Do not repeat the tactics which have gained
you one victory, but let your methods be regulated
by the infinite variety of circumstances.
29. Military tactics are like unto water; for water in its
natural course runs away from high places and hastens downwards.
30. So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong
and to strike at what is weak.
31. Water shapes its course according to the nature
of the ground over which it flows; the soldier works
out his victory in relation to the foe whom he is facing.
32. Therefore, just as water retains no constant shape,
so in warfare there are no constant conditions.
33. He who can modify his tactics in relation to his
opponent and thereby succeed in winning, may be called
a heaven-born captain.
34. The five elements (water, fire, wood, metal, earth)
are not always equally predominant; the four seasons make
way for each other in turn. There are short days and long;
the moon has its periods of waning and waxing.

VII. MANEUVERING
1. Sun Tzu said: In war, the general receives his
commands from the sovereign.
2. Having collected an army and concentrated his forces,
he must blend and harmonize the different elements thereof
before pitching his camp.
3. After that, comes tactical maneuvering,
than which there is nothing more difficult.
The difficulty of tactical maneuvering consists
in turning the devious into the direct, and misfortune into gain.
4. Thus, to take a long and circuitous route,
after enticing the enemy out of the way, and though starting
after him, to contrive to reach the goal before him,
shows knowledge of the artifice of DEVIATION.
5. Maneuvering with an army is advantageous;
with an undisciplined multitude, most dangerous.
6. If you set a fully equipped army in march in order
to snatch an advantage, the chances are that you will be
too late. On the other hand, to detach a flying column
for the purpose involves the sacrifice of its baggage
and stores.
7. Thus, if you order your men to roll up their
buff-coats, and make forced marches without halting day
or night, covering double the usual distance at a stretch,
doing a hundred LI in order to wrest an advantage,
the leaders of all your three divisions will fall into
the hands of the enemy.
8. The stronger men will be in front, the jaded
ones will fall behind, and on this plan only one-tenth
of your army will reach its destination.
9. If you march fifty LI in order to outmaneuver
the enemy, you will lose the leader of your first division,
and only half your force will reach the goal.
10. If you march thirty LI with the same object,
two-thirds of your army will arrive.
11. We may take it then that an army without its
baggage-train is lost; without provisions it is lost;
without bases of supply it is lost.
12. We cannot enter into alliances until we are
acquainted with the designs of our neighbors.
13. We are not fit to lead an army on the march
unless we are familiar with the face of the country–its
mountains and forests, its pitfalls and precipices,
its marshes and swamps.
14. We shall be unable to turn natural advantage
to account unless we make use of local guides.
15. In war, practice dissimulation, and you will succeed.
16. Whether to concentrate or to divide your troops,
must be decided by circumstances.
17. Let your rapidity be that of the wind,
your compactness that of the forest.
18. In raiding and plundering be like fire,
is immovability like a mountain.
19. Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night,
and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.
20. When you plunder a countryside, let the spoil be
divided amongst your men; when you capture new territory,
cut it up into allotments for the benefit of the soldiery.
21. Ponder and deliberate before you make a move.
22. He will conquer who has learnt the artifice
of deviation. Such is the art of maneuvering.
23. The Book of Army Management says: On the field
of battle, the spoken word does not carry far enough:
hence the institution of gongs and drums. Nor can ordinary
objects be seen clearly enough: hence the institution
of banners and flags.
24. Gongs and drums, banners and flags, are means
whereby the ears and eyes of the host may be focused
on one particular point.
25. The host thus forming a single united body,
is it impossible either for the brave to advance alone,
or for the cowardly to retreat alone. This is the art
of handling large masses of men.
26. In night-fighting, then, make much use of signal-fires
and drums, and in fighting by day, of flags and banners,
as a means of influencing the ears and eyes of your army.
27. A whole army may be robbed of its spirit;
a commander-in-chief may be robbed of his presence of mind.
28. Now a soldier’s spirit is keenest in the morning;
by noonday it has begun to flag; and in the evening,
his mind is bent only on returning to camp.
29. A clever general, therefore, avoids an army when
its spirit is keen, but attacks it when it is sluggish
and inclined to return. This is the art of studying moods.
30. Disciplined and calm, to await the appearance
of disorder and hubbub amongst the enemy:–this is the art
of retaining self-possession.
31. To be near the goal while the enemy is still
far from it, to wait at ease while the enemy is
toiling and struggling, to be well-fed while the enemy
is famished:–this is the art of husbanding one’s strength.
32. To refrain from intercepting an enemy whose
banners are in perfect order, to refrain from attacking
an army drawn up in calm and confident array:–this
is the art of studying circumstances.
33. It is a military axiom not to advance uphill
against the enemy, nor to oppose him when he comes downhill.
34. Do not pursue an enemy who simulates flight;
do not attack soldiers whose temper is keen.
35. Do not swallow bait offered by the enemy.
Do not interfere with an army that is returning home.
36. When you surround an army, leave an outlet free.
Do not press a desperate foe too hard.
37. Such is the art of warfare.

VIII. VARIATION IN TACTICS
1. Sun Tzu said: In war, the general receives
his commands from the sovereign, collects his army
and concentrates his forces
2. When in difficult country, do not encamp. In country
where high roads intersect, join hands with your allies.
Do not linger in dangerously isolated positions.
In hemmed-in situations, you must resort to stratagem.
In desperate position, you must fight.
3. There are roads which must not be followed,
armies which must be not attacked, towns which must
be besieged, positions which must not be contested,
commands of the sovereign which must not be obeyed.
4. The general who thoroughly understands the advantages
that accompany variation of tactics knows how to handle
his troops.
5. The general who does not understand these, may be well
acquainted with the configuration of the country, yet he
will not be able to turn his knowledge to practical account.
6. So, the student of war who is unversed in the art
of war of varying his plans, even though he be acquainted
with the Five Advantages, will fail to make the best use
of his men.
7. Hence in the wise leader’s plans, considerations of
advantage and of disadvantage will be blended together.
8. If our expectation of advantage be tempered in
this way, we may succeed in accomplishing the essential
part of our schemes.
9. If, on the other hand, in the midst of difficulties
we are always ready to seize an advantage, we may extricate
ourselves from misfortune.
10. Reduce the hostile chiefs by inflicting damage
on them; and make trouble for them, and keep them
constantly engaged; hold out specious allurements,
and make them rush to any given point.
11. The art of war teaches us to rely not on the
likelihood of the enemy’s not coming, but on our own readiness
to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking,
but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable.
12. There are five dangerous faults which may affect
a general:
(1) Recklessness, which leads to destruction;
(2) cowardice, which leads to capture;
(3) a hasty temper, which can be provoked by insults;
(4) a delicacy of honor which is sensitive to shame;
(5) over-solicitude for his men, which exposes him
to worry and trouble.
13. These are the five besetting sins of a general,
ruinous to the conduct of war.
14. When an army is overthrown and its leader slain,
the cause will surely be found among these five
dangerous faults. Let them be a subject of meditation.

IX. THE ARMY ON THE MARCH
1. Sun Tzu said: We come now to the question of
encamping the army, and observing signs of the enemy.
Pass quickly over mountains, and keep in the neighborhood
of valleys.
2. Camp in high places, facing the sun. Do not climb
heights in order to fight. So much for mountain warfare.
3. After crossing a river, you should get far away
from it.
4. When an invading force crosses a river in its
onward march, do not advance to meet it in mid-stream.
It will be best to let half the army get across,
and then deliver your attack.
5. If you are anxious to fight, you should not go
to meet the invader near a river which he has to cross.
6. Moor your craft higher up than the enemy, and facing
the sun. Do not move up-stream to meet the enemy.
So much for river warfare.
7. In crossing salt-marshes, your sole concern
should be to get over them quickly, without any delay.
8. If forced to fight in a salt-marsh, you should
have water and grass near you, and get your back
to a clump of trees. So much for operations in salt-marches.
9. In dry, level country, take up an easily accessible
position with rising ground to your right and on your rear,
so that the danger may be in front, and safety lie behind.
So much for campaigning in flat country.
10. These are the four useful branches of military
knowledge which enabled the Yellow Emperor to vanquish
four several sovereigns.
11. All armies prefer high ground to low and sunny
places to dark.
12. If you are careful of your men, and camp on hard
ground, the army will be free from disease of every kind,
and this will spell victory.
13. When you come to a hill or a bank, occupy the
sunny side, with the slope on your right rear.
Thus you will at once act for the benefit of your soldiers
and utilize the natural advantages of the ground.
14. When, in consequence of heavy rains up-country,
a river which you wish to ford is swollen and flecked
with foam, you must wait until it subsides.
15. Country in which there are precipitous cliffs
with torrents running between, deep natural hollows,
confined places, tangled thickets, quagmires and crevasses,
should be left with all possible speed and not approached.
16. While we keep away from such places, we should
get the enemy to approach them; while we face them,
we should let the enemy have them on his rear.
17. If in the neighborhood of your camp there should
be any hilly country, ponds surrounded by aquatic grass,
hollow basins filled with reeds, or woods with thick
undergrowth, they must be carefully routed out and searched;
for these are places where men in ambush or insidious
spies are likely to be lurking.
18. When the enemy is close at hand and remains quiet,
he is relying on the natural strength of his position.
19. When he keeps aloof and tries to provoke a battle,
he is anxious for the other side to advance.
20. If his place of encampment is easy of access,
he is tendering a bait.
21. Movement amongst the trees of a forest shows that the
enemy is advancing. The appearance of a number of screens
in the midst of thick grass means that the enemy wants to make us suspicious.
22. The rising of birds in their flight is the sign
of an ambuscade. Startled beasts indicate that a sudden
attack is coming.
23. When there is dust rising in a high column,
it is the sign of chariots advancing; when the dust is low,
but spread over a wide area, it betokens the approach
of infantry. When it branches out in different directions,
it shows that parties have been sent to collect firewood.
A few clouds of dust moving to and fro signify that the army
is encamping.
24. Humble words and increased preparations are signs
that the enemy is about to advance. Violent language
and driving forward as if to the attack are signs that he
will retreat.
25. When the light chariots come out first and take
up a position on the wings, it is a sign that the enemy
is forming for battle.
26. Peace proposals unaccompanied by a sworn covenant
indicate a plot.
27. When there is much running about and the soldiers
fall into rank, it means that the critical moment has come.
28. When some are seen advancing and some retreating,
it is a lure.
29. When the soldiers stand leaning on their spears,
they are faint from want of food.
30. If those who are sent to draw water begin
by drinking themselves, the army is suffering from thirst.
31. If the enemy sees an advantage to be gained and
makes no effort to secure it, the soldiers are exhausted.
32. If birds gather on any spot, it is unoccupied.
Clamor by night betokens nervousness.
33. If there is disturbance in the camp, the general’s
authority is weak. If the banners and flags are shifted
about, sedition is afoot. If the officers are angry,
it means that the men are weary.
34. When an army feeds its horses with grain and kills
its cattle for food, and when the men do not hang their
cooking-pots over the camp-fires, showing that they
will not return to their tents, you may know that they
are determined to fight to the death.
35. The sight of men whispering together in small
knots or speaking in subdued tones points to disaffection
amongst the rank and file.
36. Too frequent rewards signify that the enemy is
at the end of his resources; too many punishments betray
a condition of dire distress.
37. To begin by bluster, but afterwards to take fright
at the enemy’s numbers, shows a supreme lack of intelligence.
38. When envoys are sent with compliments in their mouths,
it is a sign that the enemy wishes for a truce.
39. If the enemy’s troops march up angrily and remain
facing ours for a long time without either joining
battle or taking themselves off again, the situation
is one that demands great vigilance and circumspection.

This is the game that separates or divides those who would rather steal EVERY piece of software they own, and those who pirate then purchase like most .nfo files suggest. Either way neither group of fiends is better than the other.
I suggest buying this game, it’s one of the few games this year (Half Life 2 Orange box, Call of Duty 4, Crisis, Hellgate: London, and World in Conflict) that warrant a purchase of your hard earned dollars. Bioshock seems to be one of those games that never crack quite right. Although people said that about HL2, now look how the scene has circumvented steam.
All I’m saying is, this is one of the small number of games worth purchasing.

The cracked version would allow you single player only. Bioshock IS single player only. So we’re simply willing to wait longer than you to play this single player only game.

That’s a load of crap. I don’t care who you claim is playing what. For multi-player I play many of them LAN, which is the majority of when I play a game in general. Every other weekend I have a LAN, we play random games, if Bioshock were good, and had multiplayer, I probably would have purchased it and we’d play that. It doesn’t, therefore my Money will go elsewhere to ones that do have multi-player. Paying $50+ for a game that I will play 2-3 times is not worth it to me.
Yes, people do go back to classics, I still play Q3, Q1, CS and some RTS games. I don’t give much of a hoot for single player unless they’re going to make it long, as I don’t play much during the week, and when I play on the weekend, I expect it to be with others. So yes, I would have preferred a 100th take on deathmatch classic. Playing a new game with a common style is still not all the same. The weapons, physics, surroundings controls, all of this changes the way it plays and feels.
Not to mention Co-op. This is a huge feature for me, having a good coop (Gears of War if it were longer, Rainbow 6) would make me buy this in a heart beat.
I am half looking forward to id’s new game, even though the graphis don’t stand out as much as new id games do, the reason? Coop. I will buy just about any coop game on the market for a system I own. There are so few, I don’t have to purchase many.

Bigtex I find your opinions intriguing. For awhile I felt exactly as you do about downloading. Unless it had multiplayer I wasn’t buying it. With a basic family LAN gaming set up in my home it’s HARD finding enough games with co-op play for my wife, son, and 3 daughters. Developers are getting a bit lazy not including co-op I believe. Games like this and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are crying for co-op.
I’m hoping some enterprising individual designs a co-op mod for this. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t System Shock 2 ship with no multiplayer at all then someone designed a co-op mod for it?
Maybe DOPEMAN will release a no install version of Bioshock soon. We can only wait and see.

Would be hard to change the game into a coop play one.
I know Half-life 1 back in the day had a modded co-op added, but the whole multi-player core was already there and built, for death match.
I think the problem is, it takes more thought, and planning to add co-op. You have to figure out how monsters are going to be placed, how many, how strong. So re-positioning and adding more monsters for the entire game, which can be taxing. Making sure the players don’t get pushed too far into places, working out the map glitches that wouldn’t be apparent with just 1 player. All of that adds up to higher costs.
Which is why if someone makes a co-op game, I would probably buy it, shows they wanted to make something fun, not something just for money.

The SecuROM installed allows only 2 installations of Bioshock in your lifetime without having to call to request another CD-Key. The compound the problem with SecuROM, after an uninstall it leaves the DRM stuff in your registry that is difficult to remove.
Damn I’m glad I haven’t installed the retail version my wife bought for me. Now I’m not just waiting on a crack to put it on her computer and my son’s, but also for myself to bypass their idiotic decision on this type of DRM.

Ok i mounted the game into 2 virtual drives as suggested,I now get the play button menu but it says it cant find where the games installed lol.I used mini image plus the mdf one.But when i try to play it in release folder it says openal32.ddl cant be found its clearly in my windows32 system folder so how did you guys bypass this error?Guess i wasted 6 gigs and will have to wait for a better release.

Darkcoder, can you spell “reloc section” ? Paul.dll injected code will crash the dll in case it’s loaded to a different base.
The injected code should be either relocation-proof (ie. call $+5 trick) or the reloc section should be updated.

This will Install complete game with the autopatcher working and updateing without the need to stop it or rename directory ect.
Once fully installed simply download

Wow i picked up the one from demonoid with like 16,000 leechers and 2,600 seeders and imediatly peerguardian picked up some stuff. I got about like 4 anti piracy organizations showing up. Those should be the split parts of the game. Are they not rar’s?
Well IF they are rars, they look like .r00, .r01, .r02 and so on. Download and install WinRAR and simply double click the first rar, usually r00. WinRAR will pop up and ask where to “unrar” the file and you’re done.
no need to copy the install dir for crack…
just rename that directory..
and close that install process
then again rename it to orignal.
and copy the crack

This game won’t even install if your PC doesn’t have an internet connection. My gaming rig isn’t connected to the internet so downloading this was a complete waste. At least I’m glad I didn’t buy it. This is one of the greatest games ever. To install this properly you need to get the ViTALiTY release because they actually cracked the DVD check for the auto-patch program at the end of the installation.
Otherwise you need to Alt-Tab out of the installer when the auto-patch program runs and rename the original install directory, or else it will delete the files and quit. After that install the 1.1 patch and download the DETONATiON 1.1 crack from here:
