Bill LiMiTED DVDSCR XviD-DoNE

The second DVDSCR from DoNE tonight is of a movie simply called Bill, and sadly its of a lot lesser quality (the release, idk about the movie). This one stars the hot Jessica Alba whom we may know from recent horrors such as The Eye and Awake, but as far as her acting skill goes, I think its only average. The movie revolves around a guy named Bill, played by Aaron Eckhart whom I mainly know from his recent romance movie No Reservations, and the current IMDB rating is pretty good, so if you’re into this type of comedy, I’d suggest giving this a second thought.

Quality: This is the point where the scene rules piss me off as you can’t achieve a pretty good bitrate and resolution with a film 93 minutes long unless you rip this on 2CDs :( . The resolution is 528×288 and the bitrate is 910kbit/s, while the audio is your typical MP3 audio with a bitrate of 129kbit/s.

Fed up with his job, his wife, and his life, Bill (Aaron Eckhart) finds himself the reluctant mentor of an unruly, but curiously wise, teenager (Logan Lerman). Bill’s life hits an all time low when he catches his wife (Elizabeth Banks) having an affair with a local news anchor (Timothy Olyphant). With nothing left to lose, he turns to the kid for inspiration and regains his lost sense of self.

    same as the previous DVDScr, there are occasional “For Screening Purposes Only Not For Rental Or Sale” messages throughout the film on both the top and bottom of the screen in rather large, white letters.

    While trying to be as polite as I can, why don’t you read the post before making dumb comments like that. Look at the res, its 528×288 and you call that a good res??? I don’t, because for me a good res would be something around 640×352 so just please, piss off.

    it’s funny you should mention politeness and the ability to read as you obviously are lacking in both departments. i have not been saying that 528×288 is a good or even reasonable resolution – actually, i wasn’t referring to this release at all. rather, i took the liberty of pointing out your blanket statement that a movie of 93 minutes could not be had in acceptable quality on 1 cd. this is wrong, of course, unless you go for ac3 1cd is plenty for 90% of the movies under 100 minutes, with the other 10% being extremely action-packed flicks. please take this into consideration before ridiculing yourself again. thank you for your time & understanding, i’m sure both your knowledge and your posts here will improve over time.

    Well I’m glad to see that you understood my use of sarcasm in my comment, and in the post I was referring to this movie, as although it may not be action packed, you still can’t get good quality unless its 2CD. So stop bluntly telling me that I’m wrong, as you misunderstood my point, and you are talking about a different scenario than I am.

    If they used x264/aac you could easily get a goood quality 1cd rip of this movie. Just raise the resolution a bit and drop the bitrate to 700 or 800 kbps. Seems everytime there is a 1 cd movie rip editors diss the quality, most of us are just happy to see the movie and don’t want to waste twice as much time and quota downloading it, particularly for dramas/comedies etc. Just wait for a HD rip if quality matters so much to you.

    it’s a dvd screener, it doesn’t need 2 cds.

  25. May 7th, 2008 | 22:50

    @24

    I’d agree if this was a CAM or TS, but its not, and if it wasn’t for the watermarks every now and than, it would as good as a DVDRip, so yes it could use 2CDs.

    What’s the point of AC3 anyways? It takes up too much space and is wayyy to quiet. Worthless, in my book. I use virtualdub and re-encode all the AC3 movies I download and pump up the damned volume on them!!

  28. Whatever
    May 7th, 2008 | 22:58

    How is every ten minutes, and on-screen for 10 seconds to a minute* “every now and than(sic)”? That’s eight times during an ~90 minute movie. Face it, these type of screeners are just for cheap thrills, not for keeping.

    *standard screener practice in flicks with these “watermarks” (titles)

  29. May 7th, 2008 | 23:00

    @27

    AC3 can store 5.1 surround sound audio while MP3 can’t, and AC3 only takes up more space when there are more tracks. A 90 minute, 2 channel audio file encoded at 192kbps will be the same size no matter whether its MP3 or AC3. I’d try adjusting the volume on your speakers and computer as AC3 is, again, just as loud as MP3 and since no one else is complaining, this might just be an issue on your end.

  30. Whatever
    May 7th, 2008 | 23:01

    Grazie, Tito!

  31. May 7th, 2008 | 23:04

    @28

    Eight times during a movie is every now and than, but the length of the watermark may not be so pleasing.

  32. Whatever
    May 7th, 2008 | 23:14

    I beg to differ. It is every ten minutes, on the dot. “Every now and than(sic)” denotes random times. But, oh well. It’s not worth arguing the obvious. It’s also not just the length, but as you can see by the sample posted in the War Inc. thread, it can also be the size.

    “A 90 minute, 2 channel audio file encoded at 192kbps will be the same size no matter whether its MP3 or AC3.”

    Not really, because MP3 compresses better (at a slight audio quality loss) than AC3, leaving more room for video bitrate. As you mentioned, AC3 is useful for tracks multi-channel audio tracks and that’s about it.

    Also, another reason that this doesn’t have to be 2CD’s is because DVDSCR’s are usually mastered differently than retail releases, and often have lower overall bitrates.

    Marceli is it that time of the month or are the trolls getting to you?

  35. May 7th, 2008 | 23:20

    @33

    The source DVDSCR still had a bitrate that was a lot higher than this so they could have ripped this on 2CDs.

    And yes a 2CH audio track of the same runtime and of the same birate will be the same size whether using MP3, and I know this because I have tried this myself on many occasions.

    Marceli,

    If you’re really claiming AC3 and MP3 are equivalent why isn’t AC3 the premiere way of sharing audio files on the internet. Obviously something gives it an edge in terms of the compression quality ratio.

    Sorry bro you’re just wrong on this one.

    Well, the problem could be on my end with drivers or whatever (I doubt it though), but I get the same low volume issue with AC3 on my standalone DIVX player. There might be more dynamic range possible with AC3, but I doubt that most of the source of these AC3 encodes were getting were that pure anyways. Using virtual-dub and re-encoding the sound to MP3 saves almost 150MB every time I’ve done it. I guess that’s because AC3 is almost always used when they have 5.1 channels. Ergo… I think AC3 is a waste for the scene to use. Big bandwidth savings with MP3 in my book.

    Concerning the release quality : this is good. I don’t understand why some people wouldn’t download it over quality issues.
    But this has to be the worst movie I have seen in my life (apart from Shortbus maybe). I didn’t even have enough stomach to watch it all the way to the end. The only guy that knows what he’s doing is Eckhart, all the other actors, the story, the directing are just awful. Every ten minutes something makes you go WTF !
