Bill Gates to retire from Microsoft on Friday
Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates was set Friday for his last day of full-time work at Microsoft – the company he founded 33 years ago on a hunch that personal computers would become an integral part of everyday life. The world’s largest software company said that it was not planning any public events to observe the transition, though the change would be marked by internal events. Gates, 52, will continue to hold the title of non-executive chairman and work about one day a week at Microsoft. He intends to devote the rest of his time to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the wealthiest charity in the world, which is aimed at improving healthcare around the world and reducing extreme poverty. Founded with the vast fortune he made as Microsoft prospered, the foundation has an endowment of some 38.7 billion dollars with billions more expected to roll in as Gates transfers his massive personal wealth. Legendary investor Warren Buffet, currently the world’s richest man, has also pledged to transfer the vast majority of his wealth to the foundation.
Gates handed over his role as Microsoft chief executive to his long-time partner Steve Ballmer in 2000, when Gates became the company’s chief software architect. Under a carefully planned succession programme, Gate’s duties will be taken over by two top Microsoft executives. Ray Ozzie will be in charge of day-to-day management issues, while Craig Mundie will be in charge of long-term planning. The company, whose Windows operating system powers some 90 per cent of the world’s personal computers, has a market capitalization of about 260 billion dollars and employs more than 78,000 people in 103 countries. But even as its cash cow products of Windows and the Office productivity suite look set to continue their stellar earnings, Microsoft faces tough competition as Google’s online dominance threatens to cut into Microsoft’s core businesses.

I dont know why so many people hate Bill Gates. There is more annoying famous people like Ozzy Osbourne, Spike Lee and Joan Rivers.

Ha, in the last week my legit company landed on the infamous MSN Blacklist, now our emails [all of them] are being black holed by this draconian spam filter. It makes me laugh though because it’s yet another example of them looking out for themselves and not their clients. They could care less about whether a client receives a legit message. All they care about is raking in profit.

I dunno if we’ll better off with M$ in the hands of other poeple (like that psycho, Ballmer… ugh), but in the end I gotta tip my hat to you and recognize that charitable gesture for its grandeur and compassion. It’s certainly a comforting thought that money probably ripped off of people out of sheer corporate greed is making its way back to the most needy parts of the world – well, it would be for me if I had I ever paid a single cent for any MS product in my life :p.

Without Microsoft the world would of IT would not have moved forward as fast as it has. Like it or not everyone has some reason to be thankful to Microsoft for. In fact, most people don’t even realize how often they use the Windows operating system in every day life, ATMs, point of sale, barcode scanners, set top boxes, and many, many other devices. Windows is more pervasive than people know. To avoid Windows for a whole day you’d have to not leave your house and not turn on your PC. Whatever people think of Bill Gates, he made this industry into what it is now. And I can’t believe that poeple are so hateful and envious of him that they’d even slate his charity work. If he’s even a tenth as successful as in business at eliminating extreme poverty that’s got to be worth it.

Their foundation is another way to avoid paying taxes. So basically by cheering BGates about doing “good” via his foundation, you are cheering up a guy who didn’t pay taxes in amount that he was supposed to. So basically, he robbed all of you, US citizens, once again. Good job!

I’d rather want him do “good” via his foundation than pay his f***ing taxes, the goverment wouldn’t make such a good use of that money as he might do via his foundation. Just think about it, what do you get back from the state after you pay your taxes? Huh? F*** any goverment in any part of the world! I think more than anything, Gates wants a Nobel Prize, and the Gates Foundation is part of that idea. Its no bad thing, in the end its going to help a lot of people, regardless of whatever intentions Bill Gates has behind it.
