Bias B – Beemixes (2007)

You probably need to live in Australia to know a hip hop matador Bias B – but this doesn’t change anything on the quality of music he produces. With a career spanning over a decade, he has been at the forefront of the development of the local scene since the early 90’s and continues to develop his skills and stay at the top of the game. If you want to enjoy a slightly different hip-hop, Beemixes may be a good choice.

Oh and by the way, we got 1 free position for music editor, so if you like new music, we would be more than happy to welcome you in our team. All we require is a great knowledge of English, view of various music styles and most of all, loyalty and willingness to post more than once a month. Experience with Wordpress welcomed. If you’re interested, mail me: rlslog at gmail.com.

This album is a collection of remixes from Beezwax, In Bed With Bias and Been There Done That as well as some rare never before heard collabs with some of Australias finest. Bias Beemixes features the talents of Lazy Grey, Muph, Bigfoot, The Tongue, Ciecmate, Dazastah, Burna and Miss Brown to name a few with production by Dj Bonez, Plutonic Lab, Bigfoot, Doc Felix, Jase, Dazastah, Optamus, Dj Dce and Slap 618.

Adam Stevens, better known by his alias Bias B, is a 32-year-old Melbourne rap artist signed to Obese Records. He is recognised as one of biggest originators and pioneers in Australian hip hop to date. Bias’ debut album, Beezwax, was released in 1998. He then went on to release In Bed with Bias in 2003 and Been There Done That in 2007.

Australian & New Zealand Hip Hop is far superior to a lot of the cr4p that comes out of the US these days. All that bling, bling, p.Diddy sh!t, is not real Hip Hop. It’s RnB.

The fact that this guy is the biggest thing in Australia as far as hip hop goes – just goes to show what a non-event hip hop is in Australia. Hip hop began in the US in the early 70’s – African Americans and Latino’s made it what it is. Idiots that say their hip hop is better than US hip hop are clutching at the straws of bandwagonism – it’s like New Zealanders saying that they can play Oktoberfest music better than the Germans. Instead of bagging the source, invent your own style and make it popular.

Bias is definitely not the biggest or best in Australian hip hop, although he has been around for a long time and is definitely one of the pioneers. But there are a lot of other guys that are better.

I too live in Aus and have never heard of him. But that’s prolly because I’m not a ‘true hip-hop fan’ becuase i don’t think the quality of it in Aus is good enough for my liking, therefore dont really follow the home grown stuff. But that’s me. Thnaks for the post, will check it out.
P.S. Anyone know where i could grab Scribe’s new album? Scribe from new zeland…

First of all I would like to thank Rlslog.net for putting this up on here, I have been a long term visitor and live in Australia and love aussie hip hop. Secondly “sudo nihm” you sound like all those other people who think they know what hip hop is, where truely you have no idea. Hip Hop is a culture that can be applied to any group of people, African Americans will be the first to tell you that you live hip hop and it’s not something you just like because the top 40 (pop chart music) charts said its good. You live hip hop it includes graf, breaking, Djing and freestyling, all which Australin heads dominate. Justice from melbourne won the biggest freestyle comp in america that eminem and etc have entered over their time, DJ Stean 1 has been in the World DMC finals 3 times. Just because Germany make wicked beers doesnt mean Australians can’t make better beers or even enjoy german beers. You can’t compare australin and american it’s completely different. Australians have invented their own style and have made it popular. Lastly Bias B isn’t the biggest in aussie hip hop, yet he truely is a pioneer. Hilltop Hoods have had platiumn and gold selling albums, touring europe and germany (keeping with the theme) just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it isn’t liked. “Propac” check out the hoods and funkoars forget scribe!!!

Bias is good, but he’s by no means the biggest aussie hip hop star out there.. Go listen to the Hilltop Hoods, TZU, Muph and Plutonic, The Herd, Downsyde.. All these guys are way better..

    October 22nd, 2007 | 14:44

And Scribe is the biggest hip hop wanker around the scene today..

Steps1 – hip hop is a style of music. Music is a cross cultural invention – it reflects social attitudes and customs – it neither creates those attitudes, nor gives rise to culture. Culture gives rise to music. You might think that you are a part of a “culture” while you sit in your room downloading files – part of a hip hop culture, part of a P2P culture – but that is just a schoolyard sense of wanting to belong to something – like belonging to an exclusive club. One might say “Drugs” give rise to a drug culture – that people who take drugs are involved in a cultural phenomenon – but that’s just a media invention to describe a trend. People take drugs for a variety of reasons, non of which involve wanting to belong to a specific culture.

You can rave on all you like about who won what and who’s touring where – what I’m saying is don’t co-opt a significant form of music, call it your own and say you do it better – when clearly the hard yards have not been done by you. I doubt very much that Bias B walks around slagging off US rappers – he’s too busy making music for dudes like you.

FIRST OF HIP HOP isn’t a style of music, that’s how ignorant people label it. Rap is a style of music though and hip hop is a culture!!!!!!! As i said earlier, you have no idea what your talking about. I do call aussie hip hop our “own” it’s uniquly australian and relates to our environment and society. Also dont tell me what Bias B does, I have followed his career, he works with and produces with US rappers, why would I think he slags them off!! When i said Australian heads dominate i meant it as that we have earnt respect from the originators of hip hop and that it was a question of you attacking australian quality. At no point did I say australian hip hop is better then US. I did say however you can’t compare them!!!
Say what you want no one cares about what you have to say!!
