A DiAMOND release always seems to come as a pleasant surprise! Pukka have already given us a very good R5 rls of this film but a Directors Cut DVDRip from DiAMOND is never wrong! Before watching this film I expected something much more typically epic, with battles in the vein of The Lord of the Rings, but was quite happy to find this film is quite different from others in the genre. Also, who wouldn’t want to catch a glimpse of the goddess Angelina Jolie painted gold ;) ? Enjoy!

The warrior Beowulf must fight and defeat the monster Grendel who is terrorizing towns, and later, Grendel’s mother, who begins killing out of revenge. Beowulf is a 2007 motion capture film loosely based on the Old English epic poem of the same name. The cast includes Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Robin Wright Penn, Alison Lohman, John Malkovich, Crispin Glover, Brendan Gleeson, and Angelina Jolie.

    How does this compare to the R5?

    The R5 version was an excellent copy, but it seemed a little dark to me – not sure if that was part of the original movie though.

    Besides that its a DVDRip, a Directors Cut, that it has Ac3 sound and different video kb/s, its pretty much the same as the R5. LOL

    According to the movie’s wiki on Wikipedia, it will be released as a standard DVD with 1 featurette, Director’s Cut DVD with 4 more featurettes and a hi-def version which will have at least 9 additional scenes and a total of 11 featurettes.

    xm1014, if I’m reading right, that means we have to wait for the high-def one to get any extra scenes in the film itself. (I don’t care for featurettes). Replica rlsd the standard dvdr…
    The HD DVD is released to public on Feb 26.

    Actually, scratch that last comment, there is no genuine director’s cut. Just different DVD versions with featurettes and deleted scenes. The same cut of Beowulf is included on all DVD’s.

    Loud and clear hfhdfh. I think it’s a waste to release a Director’s Cut then. They should just combine the standard DVD and DC DVD… the only difference is the added featurettes. With hi-def versions of movies already boasting more and better featurettes the HD DVD release should just be a standard HD release if the additional scenes are just deleted scenes that you can view optionally. With 3 different releases like those, you can basically be labeled according to the version you buy:

    Standard DVD: cheap guy wants nothing more than to see an animated Angelina Jolie in the buff (only to be disappointed by the gold paint)

    DC DVD: just a step above the guy who buys the standard version with an option learn some trivia about the movie.

    HD DVD: Dude! Angelina Jolie naked! In hi-def! Woot! Wait… wth is all that paint?!? WTF?!? Well at least we can learn something about the story; did you know this is based on an epic poem?

    Not counting his mother’s dialog, this is what Grendel says as he lays dying: “Mother… they harmed me mother. They murdered me mother. They ripped off me arm. He was so strong… so strong. His… his name was Beowulf.”

    As to the difference between the director’s cut and theatrical release for those that asked:
    The running time is abut 5 minutes longer and there’s more blood, gore, and sexuality. The opening feast is more depraved and all the fight scenes are more graphic. But no… no more Angelina… you’ll have to pull out your “Gia” DVD for that.

    Regardless of DVD quality etc, just a warning that this movie sucks. When Mark Kermode (famous and cult UK film critic) was asked to review it he just screamed at the top of his voice over and over again”I AM BEOWULF”…. and then said, that pretty much sums it up. Worth a download but dont expect too much.
