This is a very well presented book, which is of usual high standard by Starfire Publishing. The content of the book details the life and teachings of both Aleister Crowley and G.I. Gurdjieff. The history of each movement and teacher is well documented, and there’s also some side commentary from the author which adds to the large amount of material already out there. Overall, I liked this book, and from a documentary perspective, it makes good reading. It can be a little dry in parts, but that’s expected due to the documentary/historical approach taken in this book. There’s a good deal of comparison as well, which would be insightful for those interested in both parties and how they did and did not match in their teachings, theory and outcomes. The book isn’t practical in any way, apart from a few odd pieces of information, such as some of the rules that the Khwajagan followed (teachers of Gurdjief). Crowley’s system is way to complex to attempt to describe in practical terms. This book would be worth a read for those who have read most of what’s been published in both camps, and would like to have some historical perspective and comparative commentary on both systems.
