Barenaked Ladies - Snacktime (2008)

Barenaked Ladies. No idea, you’ve never heard this name? Well it was same with me, but these lads are pretty famous - they were nominated for Grammy and won less known Juno awards many times. The band is probably more popular in the North America but you could’ve heard about them too as their first album hit the streets back in 1989.

Anyway, this is a little special release as it’s a child album, but there are some nice tunes and it’s always good to have a bit of variety here at Releaselog. May be your kids will love this album…

“Snacktime,” a collection of original songs, will hit shelves May 6 through the band’s own label, Desperation Records. Vocalist/guitarist Ed Robertson said their inspiration came from the musical interests of their own children, who range in age from three months to 12 years. “Our collective kids now outnumber the band more than two to one,” Robertson said in a release.

Barenaked Ladies (often abbreviated BNL or occasionally BnL) is a Juno-winning and Grammy-nominated Canadian alternative rock band. The band is composed of Jim Creeggan, Kevin Hearn, Steven Page, Ed Robertson, Tyler Stewart, and formerly Andy Creeggan. They formed in 1988 in Scarborough, Ontario, at the time a suburb of Toronto. They are best known for their hit singles, “One Week”, “Pinch Me”, “If I Had $1000000″ and “Brian Wilson” and for their light-hearted, comedic performance style. The band’s trademark at live shows is humorous banter between songs, and improvised raps/songs, both of which are staples at virtually eve ry concert.

  18. May 5th, 2008 | 21:01

    the thing is the music is so different in every country. try to travel to south america, middle east, asia or australia and you will hear super famous bands in these countries / regions you’ve never even thought that exist. i could name you 10 bands everyone knows where i live, and you would most likely not know a single one of them. and finally, yeah, i would have probably known the band if i were canadian or us, but that’s not the case…

    Martin, I usually enjoy your posts, but I think I like you a little less, now that you admit you didn’t know who barenaked ladies were. Unbelievable. I’ve only been listening to them since like the 90s. lol. GREAT post!

    @6, indianpunk

    the NIN album might be ignored because it’s not a scene release, and for technews it’s to new :) jk, it should have been mentioned here already ffs!
    and that 24/96 format is also called HD-Audio, most new onboard soundchips can handle it, and so does dedicated sound hardware for recording and gaming. iirc DVD-A and BD support this format amongst others, but it cant be burned to CDA sans conversion. afaik s/pdif does not support that resolution so it’s best if you have quality a/d convertors with your sound hardware.

    Is it too much to ask for posters/reviewers that are at least a little cultured. How someone who posts information about music hasn’t heard of a band that what was(a few years ago) a very well known band with i think a top ten single.\

    Not that i have their posters on my wall but c’mon.

    As to NIN,…meh(uncapitalized, just like the album.)

    @7

    likewise here too. at 24, i dont like being made to feel old. everybody knows the barenaked ladies - my dad even has one of their albums! they can be kinda funny sometimes; their song ‘if i had $1,000,000′ always makes me smile.

    theyre a bit bland though - whats going on with all these music posts? none of them are good.

    and how old are you martin, 13?

    I love this band - been listening to them for years now.

    But I’m a little surprised they didn’t use an alias for this album - “Barenaked Ladies” is not a phrase you’ll find in the typical kid’s music collection…
