Ayreon – 01011001 (2008)
I was really glad to find this rls appear! After listening to Ayreons last album “The Human Equation” I had been looking forward to the next record. This album isn’t going to hit the shelves until January 28th 2008, so thanks a lot to group FNT for providing us with this sweet n’ early rls! If you haven’t yet heard “The Human Equation” I highly recommend you check it out. It featured major metal profiles such as Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth), James LaBrie (Dream Theater, Mullmuzzler) and Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad, The Devin Townsend Band). Click on the Metal-Archives link to see all the artists featured on this record. This is a 2CD rls. The first disc is called “Y”, the second “Earth”.
Ayreon is a project by Dutch composer and musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon’s musical style derives mostly from heavy metal and progressive rock, but combines them with genres like folk, classical and electronica to form what some call a completely new style of music. The majority of Ayreon’s albums are dubbed “rock operas” due to the fact that the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, each represented by a unique vocalist.

Sounds nice, I’ll give it a go
damn, homeboy has some seriously expensive lawn ornaments.
Mmmm…I was all for it till I saw him with his cat.
How Lame ?
I apologise if the cat is the lead guitarist, maybe the guy with the long hair is the roadie.
It’s a Dude???
Heh, he titled his album after a binary code.

01011001 is 89 for the people who cba to work it out
@7: and 89 is the ascii value of the letter ‘Y’ which is the title of the first cd, the story is about a ‘Planet Y’
the photo tells the whole story
a geek, a dog, some guitars and an almighty turd of a record
What happened to ‘Planet X’ then?
weird looking dog
@10
Planet X is the heterosexual planet he is barred from
ummmm……catdog?
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
You guys crack me up! NERDS!!!!!!!!!
I’ll download this just for kicks and giggles because I hope against all expectations to find some group or album approaching the greatness of Nightwish……………
I’ll let ya’ll know how it goes…..maybe….
Cheers!
“to find some group or album approaching the greatness of Nightwish”
omg…
um, 01011001 is 59, not 89.
@ 13… Where you do you buy your guitars? Coz if your selling ovations at $25 or less then i would gladly love to know!
Them ovations go for atleast a grand each. The cheapest thing in the collection there would probably be that hippie as nylon guitar in the back.

@19 learn to add homeboy
‘human equation’ was nicer without the cringe-inducing ‘rock opera’ lyrics
“This is probably my favourite TV show atm.
I’ll put up a public torrent as soon as i find one.”
Could you try harder?
Its not ON any public trackers… did u try thinking about that before you chose to act like a right cunt?
I put up sum rapidshare links in the comments.

Nice, the first good music post here
I liked Ayreons Universal Migrator Pt. 1&2 a bit more than The Human Equation, so I hope the new album will be more like that.

@29
noone ever heard of those idiots either and the album still sucks like a r3tard on a window
tks for the info “US Beer sucks”.
With this cast it’s difficult to suck.
Finally some progressive metal/rock around here.
Nice.
Great music, I love Ayreon and I was so stoked to hear that Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian was participating in the project.
Finally a good music post here!
Ayreon is fantastic progressive music and this disc should be no disapointment! I love all of Arjen’s projects and am so glad this was released on here.
Good job guys!
@fy …human equation is also a rock opera. It tells the story from when the accident happens and throughout his stay in the hospital etc. The lyrics may have been better, but of course, thats opinion.
Ayreon project is more and more over to all nightwish album. There is not vay to compare, are 2 different styles to make music. Ayreon use fantasy to make a complex story (all ayreon albums are unique story). Nightwish try to make great music, with orchestral instruments and choirs, and try to make some little story… but none at Arjen level.
OH MY GOD! This album is amazing! Some really good progressive metal. I love, LOVE Daniel Glidenlow and Hansi on this album. Truely amazing – I’d recommend this to anyone who like progressive metal.
Thanks for the great release, always awaiting new Ayreon stuff as one of my top 2 bands.
To others who haven’t heard of Ayreon or any of the artists performing in Arjen’s projects: don’t download this or comment. If you cannot appreciate the genius of this music, you don’t deserve it in the first place.
First album I heard by them and I really like it. Mostly the opening, the second one, and the third to last. Forgot their names
What an incredible album – a definate ‘must buy’ when it launches.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
This album didn’t floor me like his previous one did on the first listen, but it’s quickly growing on me. I wish we had liner notes to help along with the story, though…
As for the story of the album, it can be discerned after a few listens of the album–but only if you’re familiar with most of all previous Ayreon releases. Elements from all the albums are addressed, and this story sort of ties all the storylines together in one neat bundle. Quite an accomplishment, if you ask me.
Where can I get an Avatar around here?
I never heard of Ayreon, and after downloading and giving it a listen I was about to discard it. I really liked the music, but the “80’s style” wailing on a few tracks made me cringe.
I have to say that after I looked in to the album, I was completely blown away by the scope of this project.
The whole album tells an interesting story and each singer plays a different character. I haven’t heard the previous albums, but like Bruce mentions, they’re supposed to tie together.
Even if the singing is not my style, this level of story-telling is by far better then most of the garbage music forced upon us.
I know this is an old release, but I just wanted to say thanks to releaselog for introducing me to this music.
@Hatchet,
That makes me really happy that you have found this music because of my post! As a metalhead and an editor for rlslog, seeing people discover new types of music (especially metal
) is the best part of my job.
I found this page randomly, and was quite surpirsed of how much people here knew about Ayreon. (btw, to the jerk that think the album sucks and compares it to nightwish I say : Open your ears man, try to get past the first impression and give it a serious try). Arjen’s musical genius is unfortunatly something that will remain underground, unlike the great composers of the past centuries. I got my lmtd edition yeasterday and grew completly crazy about it. The bonus DVD is packed with over an hour of bonus and the 2 cds run for over 1h40 minutes of pure joy. One of the best albums of my entire life!
