Ayreon – 01011001 (2008)

I was really glad to find this rls appear! After listening to Ayreons last album “The Human Equation” I had been looking forward to the next record. This album isn’t going to hit the shelves until January 28th 2008,  so thanks a lot to group FNT for providing us with this sweet n’ early rls! If you haven’t yet heard “The Human Equation” I highly recommend you check it out. It featured major metal profiles such as Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth), James LaBrie (Dream Theater, Mullmuzzler) and Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad, The Devin Townsend Band). Click on the Metal-Archives link to see all the artists featured on this record. This is a 2CD rls. The first disc is called “Y”, the second “Earth”.

Ayreon is a project by Dutch composer and musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon’s musical style derives mostly from heavy metal and progressive rock, but combines them with genres like folk, classical and electronica to form what some call a completely new style of music. The majority of Ayreon’s albums are dubbed “rock operas” due to the fact that the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, each represented by a unique vocalist.

@ 13… Where you do you buy your guitars? Coz if your selling ovations at $25 or less then i would gladly love to know!

Them ovations go for atleast a grand each. The cheapest thing in the collection there would probably be that hippie as nylon guitar in the back.

I liked Ayreons Universal Migrator Pt. 1&2 a bit more than The Human Equation, so I hope the new album will be more like that.

Finally a good music post here!
Ayreon is fantastic progressive music and this disc should be no disapointment! I love all of Arjen’s projects and am so glad this was released on here.
    Good job guys!

@fy …human equation is also a rock opera. It tells the story from when the accident happens and throughout his stay in the hospital etc. The lyrics may have been better, but of course, thats opinion.

Ayreon project is more and more over to all nightwish album. There is not vay to compare, are 2 different styles to make music. Ayreon use fantasy to make a complex story (all ayreon albums are unique story). Nightwish try to make great music, with orchestral instruments and choirs, and try to make some little story… but none at Arjen level. :)

OH MY GOD! This album is amazing! Some really good progressive metal. I love, LOVE Daniel Glidenlow and Hansi on this album. Truely amazing – I’d recommend this to anyone who like progressive metal.

Thanks for the great release, always awaiting new Ayreon stuff as one of my top 2 bands.

To others who haven’t heard of Ayreon or any of the artists performing in Arjen’s projects: don’t download this or comment. If you cannot appreciate the genius of this music, you don’t deserve it in the first place.

This album didn’t floor me like his previous one did on the first listen, but it’s quickly growing on me. I wish we had liner notes to help along with the story, though…

As for the story of the album, it can be discerned after a few listens of the album–but only if you’re familiar with most of all previous Ayreon releases. Elements from all the albums are addressed, and this story sort of ties all the storylines together in one neat bundle. Quite an accomplishment, if you ask me.

I never heard of Ayreon, and after downloading and giving it a listen I was about to discard it. I really liked the music, but the “80’s style” wailing on a few tracks made me cringe.

I have to say that after I looked in to the album, I was completely blown away by the scope of this project.

The whole album tells an interesting story and each singer plays a different character. I haven’t heard the previous albums, but like Bruce mentions, they’re supposed to tie together.

Even if the singing is not my style, this level of story-telling is by far better then most of the garbage music forced upon us.

I know this is an old release, but I just wanted to say thanks to releaselog for introducing me to this music.

  44. January 29th, 2008 | 22:40

    @Hatchet,

That makes me really happy that you have found this music because of my post! As a metalhead and an editor for rlslog, seeing people discover new types of music (especially metal :P ) is the best part of my job.

I found this page randomly, and was quite surpirsed of how much people here knew about Ayreon. (btw, to the jerk that think the album sucks and compares it to nightwish I say : Open your ears man, try to get past the first impression and give it a serious try). Arjen’s musical genius is unfortunatly something that will remain underground, unlike the great composers of the past centuries. I got my lmtd edition yeasterday and grew completly crazy about it. The bonus DVD is packed with over an hour of bonus and the 2 cds run for over 1h40 minutes of pure joy. One of the best albums of my entire life!
