I’m fine with reinstalling the 30day trial of ESET Smart Security every month but this could come handy for some friends computers.

Do the keymaker work 100%? Do it update without problem?

Because with the professional version every time u update it will override the patch and will ask for a legitimate key

humpf the keygen returns a trojan warning by avast? Oo

  13. August 2nd, 2008 | 10:55

@10: no wtf. The older more basic nod32 was way better; Now they’re going like all the others: more gfx, more mem usage… And with latest nod32 It let a few trojans go in my comp, and Avast deleted the maftwerwards..

avast is very light on resources.

When scanning it only uses 40-50mb of ram (compared to upto 200mb for “one leading brand of av” ;p ).

I have an old version and update it fine without it asking for a new key. If yours does that you have a bad crack and need to get a proper. ;p

  27. 1488
    August 2nd, 2008 | 11:38

boldoot666: i dont think so, nod32 misses a lot of malware, and it’s not so light on resources like it used to be.

Also, avira PE is free, while using a warez version it’s alwasy risky from different points of view.

    August 2nd, 2008 | 12:01

Avast is pretty good, but to be honest just get the free version, its uses the same scanners and databases the only differences are for a few extra features that you dont really need(basicaly a new UI).

Its a really good AV and probably the most reliable on the market, NOD32 even in its prime could only beat Avast by the tiniest margins it was always NOD32, Kapersky and avast in the top of AVs of most good malware advice sites. And Avast as gotten better while NOD32 and kapersky have become more stagnant. The model Avast uses also means it has allot of users acros a very broad range which means it is very good at picking up new nasties and getting solutions very quick before they become widespread.

Its on-access protection also makes an excellent firewall, better at stopping nasties and less obtrusive than any of the “good” firewalls i have used in the past.

I have to agree with Frado (post 13) and in his write up about this…
And no, it’s not brown nosing.

Too many resource hungry anti-virus out there and this one just joined the club.

    @24 phatpatrick…
Don’t fool yourself by sayng you don’t use any protection because you have a MAC, it’s well known that there are MAC virii out there nowadays.

But, as with any OS you only get virii by being stupid, not using trusted sites/ groups & irc chns.
(or having even more stupid people that have you on their “send any email attachment to” list).

Again with the ‘Keygen lights up alerts’from posters 12 & 16…
It has been explained for many years in great depth but in essence what do you expect, you are downloading, unzipping, checking a bit of coded app/util that ‘hacks’ another program or uses (accesses) your registry & cpu info to create a custom key for you, of course it will show as an alert, very few key makers won’t. More so, if it’s wrapped in as a small .exe, any half decent anti-virii will flag it.

Thanks for the info Frado, keep up the great work guys.

I use malwarebytes anti-malware along with Nod32. Works like a charm. All malwares including ultimate antivirus and other fake crapwares from email that got through nod32 were caught by malwarebytes and its keygen still works good even for software updates.

    Just my 2 cents :)

I don’t f*ck around when it comes to antivirus. I use Norton and it has caught all virus, malware and tracking cookies they throw at it. It updates once a week or so with new definations. What is bloatware anyway? I will always have room on my computer for this program!

if you know how to use your pc, avoid dumb sites, dont click yes to everything and check before what you download, you will never get a virus.

i havent used av or firewall or wadafak for almost 3 years now, never a problem.

many will know say “d00d, yer pc is rootkitted to hell and bek!” ….nope, clean.

i do reset the standard image of my hdd every week though, which takes about 4 minutes with norton ghost so hehe.

I have been using Avast for a long them have used them all. Great programme but luckily Avast shown this version from Rapidshare had a Virus ..lol “Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}” So think I’ll stick with my slightly older 4.8.
I love all the arguments that start when programmes like this come out, Nod32 better et etc lol everybody thinks they know which one is better. Use what works for you! IDIOTS. And hopefully admin are banning some of the scum above with the racist comments etc????

    Downloaded and installed the program.
Didn’t like so I tried to uninstall it but found out there is no “uninstall” built into the program. Nothing in the start menu either. Looked up “uninstall” in the help and found out that you have to go to a specific URL site and download their “uninstall” program. Tried to do that but the site is not active anymore. Really ugly !!
I cannot imagine a current program not having an uninstall for itself. Bush.

dont remember which group that explained (with proof) that keygen.exe and a few other “warez” specific filenames gets flagged as baddies no matter what. u ppl must never ever download (or atleast install any cracked stuff) as its almost certain that it will come up as “bad” in most cases.. atleast the keygen (wonder why…..)

i use pctools threatfire av.. works good? how the f.. should i know… but its better then nutting. all u know it all “pros” claiming this or that works better (from a catch bad files pov) are morons and should never be allowed on the internet to begin with.

oh and lastly.. i used this or that av then switched and it “found” lots of stuff…. usually means they false postive more then the one u used before.. go back to that1 instead.
i wonder why? could it be cuz they wanna scare you into thinking u need a AV by any chance? nahhhh cant be that…

ummm they are among the few of the AV companies that actually got caught redhanded making viruses and releasing them onto the public. yeah keep supporting them.. good job.. im sure they all do it. and also… its a known fact.. most warnings wins. are they nessesarly good warnings? who cares… most wins screw ppl (they are mostly stupid anyway).

Avast (local), AVG (under VMWare), Nod32 (under VMWare), and Kaspersky (online scanner) all report a trojan in this download. I know that CORE added some stuff about ‘false positives’ in their info file, but there’s no way this can be trusted. There are far too many other groups who release CLEAN keygens that don’t show up as trojans. CORE needs to either learn how to code properly, or stick to registration key protected shareware.
