Avast Pro v4.8.1201 Incl. Keymaker-CORE

CORE has released new(est) version of Avast Professional. Professional version is mainly created for corporate and/or business users. There is no such a big difference between this Pro and Home Edition (which is available as a freeware copy; You get a legit serial number). I’m a user of Home Edition almost a year now, and i can say I’m happy with it. It doesn’t go crazy when it comes to scene keygens, cracks, patchs (like AVG for example) and most important, it’s not a (big) resource hog. Here is comparison table, so it’s up to you to decide will you go for freeware (Home) edition, keygenned (Pro) edition, or some other antivir; after all it’s personal choice…

Description: avast! 4 Professional Edition is a collection of award winning, high-end technologies that work in perfect synergy, having one common goal: to protect your system and valuable data against computer viruses. It represents a best-in-class solution for any Windows-based workstation.

NOTE: Some AVs may recognize “keygen.exe” as trojan “Win32:Keygen-T” or “Potentially harmful program Crack.AD” like in AVG’s case (what a tagging LOL :D ). Others big names like NOD32, Kaspersky, F-Secure found it to be clean. So, it’s false positive.

How does this compare vs. a program like BitDefender? Any existing users out there?

Avast free also tags the keygen as malicious (irony alert) which you can safely ignore. Keygenerator works with the free version and it IS worth it to upgrade just for the advanced gui, script scan module, screensaver and scheduled scans.

@2 The Lurker (and anybody doubtful)

    Just go to http://www.av-comparatives.org/
Choose Comparatives on the left, and then chose the latest Retrospective/ProActive Test and On-demand comparative. You’ll see that Avast is one of the best. Much better than BD.
I’ve been using it for quite some time and I’m really satisfied with it. I have tested many AV-s (Norton, Kaspersky, BitDefender, AVG, NOD32, Avira) and for now, IMHO the best (again, IMHO) is Avast. Install the Home (free) edition, there’s not much difference. You will even feel good ‘cos you have a legit copy… ;) :P

Have used AVG for some time now, but It’s very annonying when it comes to keygens and such. Will give Avast a try.

I guess BitDefender is a little better than Avast! And yes! Kaspersky is still the best!
I’m not decided yet between Avast and Avira! They are both good free antiviruses!

just remember if you get a positive hit on your virus scanner that it is just a flase positive on the keygen. AntiVir reported it for me but all is good.

hmm..yeah..not much of a difference actually..
Guess, i’ll just stick to my Avast home edition..;) Thanks for the post..

The home version gives you a free key for a year, then all you do is go to their site and in 5 minutes you have the home edition for another year for free. The 4 windows PC’s in my house all use Avast alongside ClamWin, they are both free and avast does a great job of keeping pcs protected while clamwin searches for those hard to find bugs. Claimwin autoscans once a week on all pcs here, Avast i manually do probably once a month (scheduled scan in home not available).

Free, legal, no nagging or cracking or updating issues.

Avast detects the keygen Win32:Keygen-T! LOL! Figure that!

It doesn’t seems to be a virus! Doesnt change or writes anything on you PC!

    http://anubis.iseclab.org/result.php?taskid=f2e5b36e6766e8c4217f48fcf6c08920&refresh=1

Its detected as a virus by many antivir because it seems antivir companies back up each other in preventing piracy!

I used to have Avast, then I realized that it totaaly sucks at removing high threat viruses. I have used EVERY free verison of virus software at least twie in the past 5 years and I can say without a doubt that AntiVir is 10 times better then AVG, Avast or anything else.

Using sites like that who are bogus. Ive yet to find a comparative A/V & Internet Security website that is completely non-bias one way or the other.

These companies pay big money to have their products scored highly – not something I feel confident putting faith in personally.

  24. Mike
    May 27th, 2008 | 16:28

I have an old celeron with little memory so my prime concern is that whatever antivirus I use must be resource friendly. AVG 7.5 is light-weight but starting June I’ll have to upgrade to v.8 to continue to receive updates. Problem is I already tried it and uses much more memory! What do you Avast users have to say on this? Is it resource friendly?

    @dude
On idle it uses 10Mb of memory and on scanning it uses around 50Mb! Its a little slower than avast or avg but the detection rate is very good! Comodo free antivirus is also a good prospect! Its still on beta but who knows, already has some good reviews?

avast rocks, EXTREMELY light on system resources and keeps you completely virus free! the only reason i don’t use avg is it makes you push “ok” everytime it updates, i just want to know you updated, don’t make me click something

i’ve used avast for about a year and its pretty good but doesn’t have as good heuristics as avira premium which im using now which is pretty good. they’re even offering a free 6months on it here: https://license.avira.com/en/promotion-t0q1aatr05zwftftgnqr

still using the newer editions of nod32, I use to use avast, but it doesn’t seem to scan very well for viruses. Even with nod32 i haven’t had a viruses in years, My comp is probably infested with stealthed bots.

    Attention.

Run your Keygens in a program called Sandboxie from now on to avoid the malware ok. It’s a free download at http://www.sandboxie.com. Then no more worries over what’s inside our keygens. Makes sense??

Of course there could be malware packed in the acutal program installation somewhere. But then there is always a risk for the free stuff Right?

  40. Kaspersky
    May 27th, 2008 | 23:33

Oh…Has anyone ever successfully run Kaspersky AV. Or specifically, is there a special key generator for their keys that works out there??? No Blacklisting? Whoever can figure that out would become legend. CORE could do it………

    @23 (nameless one…)

Sorry for trying to be helpful…

If you have (and I doubt it) any testing site that you trust, please share it with us…

I don’t think that Avast or any other company can pay every one who tests them and share results with the rest of the world. In other words, AV comparatives is not the only site that says that Avast is one of the best. Well, they didn’t pay me anything, and I still vote for them…

Dude at post 40 and post 52 are right. Use Sandboxie or Virtual Sandbox for any keygen.exe files. If you are worried about the program files then download a trial version from the company’s website and use the code from the keygen.exe to make it “legit”.

According to me bitdefender is better then Kasper Sky as Kasper will irritate you lot and you can make your system more secure by using advanced settings in Bitdeffender then it is better then Kaspersky.
